Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Yah, as much as you can bitch and moan about the GP slowing down capacity, one things for sure the restraints on Twisted Colossus are a pain in the butt to pull up, and I'm about as strong a guy as you can find. They no doubt make it harder for people to get out of the trains. My only complaint about TC and it's racing is it's slow entrance into the station, how long it takes for the restraints to release, and how tough it is to get out/clear the trains for dispatch. They didn't put this into account for Twisted Colossus which relies on time to get the trains racing. Now as far as Cedar Point: I just feel like if they were gonna demolish Mean Streak completely, they'd close it the same day they're closing the park for the season. This just leads me to believe they need a head start to get something going on it before the end of the season. If RMC does make over the ride, I am pretty freaking terrified and thrilled of what insane things might come from it. If Cedar Point lets Alan Schilke do whatever he wants...this could possibly be the greatest coaster on the planet as far as I'm concerned. Yeah I know the themeing and intangibles will be lacking, as they typically are at CP, but as far as ultimate thrill and length of ride time...oh boy. You never know what's up their sleeve. -
What a rarity! And a great picture to boot! I don't think there are many from that angle, when does a B&M stop at the MCBR nonetheless give someone the opportunity who is seated in the front take such a candid photo? Hope you enjoyed your ride back to the station, I'm hundreds of miles away, but you just made me feel like I'm at home.

^Don't care. It's annoying as sh*t. I'm so over people constantly staring at their phones, making their phone a priority over people in their vicinity or a priority over their own safety or what's going on in front of them. People have panic attacks the second they don't have their phone, they play annoying videos or audio with that tinny sound that sounds terrible, loud conversations that I nor anybody else cares about or wants to hear. In a way I kinda wish the things would just go away, or have an automatic "mute" the second they walk out their front door. As for The New Revolution, I was not willing to wait more than 20 minutes to ride with VR, and even during the season passholder preview, the line looked ridiculous. Currently being out of state, the chances of me actually getting to ride are slim to none. But honestly, I don't care. I'm just glad the OTSR's are gone for good! What's hilarious is this VR crap absolutely exposes the ignorance of the park higher ups who obviously have no clue about capacity or park operation problems throughout the park, or maybe they simply don't care. 5-7 minute dispatches with 20 people on board? What a friggin joke. I feel even worse for the employees that have to clean the goggles AND deal with riders inevitably complaining about how long the line takes simply because the park, after decades of operations, has absolutely no clue how to properly staff a ride with this kind of technology. Doesn't the park know the more time guests AREN'T in line, means MORE TIME they spend walking around spending money?

Intamin and Giovanola and B&M

Granted I haven't been in years but I like Goliath, my only gripe is the MCBR and it's to short. Goliath is one of the parks most popular rides by the general public, still to this day, but it really does not require a ride from me when I visit. Reason being it could have been such a monumentally better coaster and unfortunately Six Flags jumped on the "longest and fastest (coaster on) a closed-circuit roller coaster in the world" record in 2000 instead of worrying about ride quality and now we're all paying for it. Mind you this is a record they held for 4 months and two days (Taken by Millenium Force). From what I have heard they can't stop it from being "too" fast, which is why they deal with the Ghostrider come to an almost complete stop MCBR. Imagine if they would have skipped on it, waited, and went with something like a Millenium Force style ride which would have undoubtedly worked in the same area (which would have also allowed a tunnel and a rise over Colossus). I really think Intamin could have built a much better ride. But the public eats Goliath up, so the park as far as they are concerned is no worse for the wear. -
Wow. Dollywood just cannot win with that coaster. Sounds like Twisted Colossus is not affected. Really reminds me of the X disaster at Magic Mountain. I think X was a lot worse (opened a YEAR later than originally slated), but information communication was a tad bit less back then, and the park didn't have to deal with so many internet complainers. Kinda like Superman, it was in that period of time where Magic Mountain really didn't have to say anything, the steel structures could sit there silent, and could take as long as they wanted to get the thing up and running without the public breathing down their neck on social media. I think what really boggles me which I'm sure is causing the most issues, is a launched lift on a wooden coaster? I mean, why? I get it on Maverick because it's steel, but wood is a tad more flexible and that to me just screams "problems" when you have 2 magnets that have to pass through each other with very peculiar sensors. Maybe if they made the lift track all steel Gemini like, and the rest how they did it that would be fine, but good gawd what a headache.

I just don't get why B&M is so stuck on over-engineering their rides to the point where you can ride any of their hyper coasters and they all have those same mundane floater airtime hills with the trim halfway through, which basically makes them all feel the same. How is the same coaster every time supposed to attract new visitors? Then you have RMC just going batshit crazy with the elements they have, and people love them. I'm not saying B&M has to be like a RMC, but if Robb who knows rides better than anyone is saying there is less airtime on Mako than Mummy, I mean, come on. You're freaking 200 feet in the air B&M, give the riders SOMETHING to remember! My recent heartbroken feeling about B&M really solidified riding Gate Keeper at Cedar Point a couple weeks ago. Yeah the ride *looks* crazy, but when you're riding, you don't feel any of the forces at all. It's almost like you strap in for simulator POV ride, where the screen is showing the ride cycle right in front of you, and the seat is bouncing around a little bit. Yes it is very cool to ride the coaster firsthand, but for the most part, it didn't provide any kind of forces or unique elements that stood out. I felt like watching the POV was pretty much equivalent to actually riding it. Last, I get it if you're Sea World Orlando. You want a capacity killer. You want a visually appealing ride with stats to show off. Great. If that's what the park was looking for, well, you're definitely going to get that in a B&M because the general public doesn't know the difference. I guess all I'm saying is that this ride is not going to get me out to Sea World Orlando. And I also wonder how many more coasters B&M can install like this until they actually have to "up the ante" and start getting into rides that provide airtime and unique elements that really make them stand out.

I haven't been to Disneyland in a couple years. I got my Premium Pass when it was something like $600 for the year, right before they were going to up it to $850 a year, and I have to say it was a blast. However, this was during the same year which they would open up Cars Land (a big reason I jumped on it). During that year, I saw a ridiculous change in the amount of crowds that would visit the park almost any day of the year. When it came time for my pass to expire, the difference in the volume of the crowds were pretty much unbearable. We would get free parking, free admission, any day of the year, but to me it just seemed like the crowds really ruined so much of the fun. All I ever wanted to do was go enjoy the park with my girl, get on a couple rides, maybe have some dinner in the park, but being so packed really ruined a lot of the magic for us. The pass I used to have, which now seems to be the Disney Signature Plus, is $1049. I cannot imagine paying that much to not have what I used to have, while very VERY little has improved throughout the resort since that time. The hotel expansion is great, I'm all for it. But what doesn't make sense to me is how this park is going to continue to maintain the crowds it has on a regular basis and continue to provide the same experience I was used to back when I was young, as well as that year of my Premium Pass. As far as I am concerned, within the next decade if it continues this way, there is going to have to be some major infrastructural improvements not so much to DCA, but to Disneyland in general regarding its capacity concerns and overall experience the guest encounters. I love both the parks so much, but let's put it this way, I've been offered free admission a couple times and literally was like "There's no way I'm going there to deal with that sh*t!"

311 feet is pretty tall for a face first drop. -
I dunno man, Flashback was PRETTY BAD! I actually probably would have never ridden Green Lantern, but my brother loves it so he made me go on it a year or two ago and it was very intense. I enjoyed it more than I remember when I rode the one at Grona Lund. But again, typically when I go to the park I just skip it.

It's beginning to get to that point where it's just sad that the park is having so much trouble with the ride. -
I don't think there has ever been a full day I had at Knott's where I was not able to get on everything I wanted (including all the major rides and some flats) in 8-10 hours. I wouldn't be worried about getting a fastpass unless you wanna go on things multiple times or just can't stand waiting in line. Really? That's what you were thinking? Sounds like regardless of what they did and how well they did it...you would have been thinking the same thing. How about enjoying the ride? i can think and enjoy at the same time. lol it just didn't blow me away like it did when it was new. maybe cause i had just ridden the Joker the week before as the last coaster. still great and i'd say my favorite at Knott's. also, here's some pics from the event on saturday. https://alexisjoyvipaccess.com/tag/ghostrider-rides-again-knotts-berry-farm/ obviously i don't watch anything these people are on. i know ryan newman, but only the nascar driver. haha Joker is not a woodie. Joker does not have topper track. Joker is a steel coaster. Therefore you cannot compare it to GostRider. lolz what's hilarious is you're still in the wrong because he didn't even compare them.

Well that way you can build a ride that still looks intimidating and tall, while still controlling the speed of the train, with something that besides the enthusiasts, most of the general public probably has no clue. I don't like them either, and I don't get it. Especially when I see a ride like Lightening Rod absolutely killing it through a course with insane forces on insane elements, and it makes no sense why a B&M which is so tame in comparison can't run their rides similarly.

That drop after the turnaround above the station was for so long the BEST drop on any ride in Southern California. That thing YANKED you out of the seat, and the pull out of the drop would actually kind of hurt because collectively your ass and the trains wheels would come down on the track and seat at the same time. Glad to hear its back to its glory days. I am probably going to wait for a day during the week so it's not too busy and pay for admission just to get a couple laps while it's still fresh and new.

I think I can tell exactly why they're having problems on this ride...the ride is ridiculously fast and taken at an ungodly pace. I can't believe they'd actually be able to operate the ride that way consistently, holey smokes. Looks amazing. -
New Wanda Parks in China.

Does anyone else think a tilt coaster is a liiiiittle unnecessary? I mean, you already have the lift hill...you're just adding a maintenance nightmare to your portfolio of coasters, and I don't think thrill wise that this is doing anything a standard coaster could do. Now that Intamin Winged Shuttle, THAT looks fantastic! The whole time I was trying to figure out...how is this thing gonna work. -

For some folks a crappy coaster is a memory for them when it was good back in the day. For some it was crappy back in the day and you rode it with your best friend anyway several times just because the line was walk on. Sometimes when you're younger you can take the beating, and it can be fun. One thing that comes to mind is Scrambler at Magic Mountain. Scrambler is a basic flat, but probably the BEST of its style I have ever ridden. When I was about 10, and my brother was 7, and he and I both brought friends who were his age and mine, we probably rode that f***er 10-15 times in a row, on a couple visits. And we'd rotate each time. And I'd pull to the inside of the car, and slam my brother or his friend as the forces pulled me to the outside of the car. Then we'd switch, and they'd do it to me. Then we'd yell "Speed it up!" as we passed the operator (as if he could do something about it). Now, the Scrambler is still there, for now, and who would really care about an old flat? BUT. When that thing goes, and it's not there anymore, a part of the memory goes away too. And that's something I can appreciate from folks who miss coasters we may hate or not understand why THEY care when they're gone. Lots of people are different, and certain people are going to miss certain coasters for certain reasons, and some of us are not. What I don't understand is hating on someone who is going to miss a ride, whether it's a good ride or not. I have memories on so many coasters that IMO were great or crappy, and are now long gone, but I still miss their crappyness or miss how I liked them just because of the memories. Except for Psyclone at Magic Mountain or Mean Streak at Cedar Point, screw both those rides. LOL -

^Strange that they could put a coaster like Twisted Colossus on top of wood that is 45 years old, and that thing even with its g's is not getting torn apart, but they build one from scratch and all of a sudden it can't handle it? I don't buy it. I think this entire delay has to do with the dumb magnetic launched lift that is totally unnecessary and going to be a problematic headache from here on out unless they dump the idea or ask Intamin for a hand a-la Maverick. To be completely honest in watching that video, the thing picks up pretty quickly at the bottom of the lift and I could see it being rather uncomfortable for folks in the back couple rows going from flat to up the lift. Me personally would probably handle it fine, but for most of the GP, eh I dunno. I didn't and still don't understand the need for a launched lift? Was this done just to be a first? It just SCREAMED maintenance and downtime nightmare from the get-go, and well, here we are. How about screw the magnets and put in a traditional chain lift? Pretty sure I've never heard anyone complain that an RMC has a traditional chain lift on any of their coasters. Some might say well it needs the speed from the launched lift to finish the course...I'm sure a few modifications here or there on the track could fix that. If Maverick can have a pretty decent magnetic lift hill I don't get why this ride can't either. What a frickin headache. I think this is the first one from RMC. I wonder if the launch lift was their idea or Dollywoods. -
Finally! Took the numbnuts long enough to come to their senses! I asked a Rev-op what if you don't wanna wait to ride with the headset and he was clueless. Then they were sending out an empty train because it wasn't working with the headset and I was like can't you just fill it up with people not wearing the set??? I swear sometimes it feels like the park is run by orangatans.

For how much we crap on Mean Streak, there are an awful lot of people asking about it. If it hasn't opened yet I'm guessing it's pretty much done for good, or as close as you can get to it. Although strange there would be no "farewell" before it gets an RMC treatment. -
The problem is they cant change over to anything that uses the word Marvel in the title, Universal still hold the rights to the name and all characters, Disney can hold meet and greets, and put an overlay over TOT but they cant use the Marvel name. So it will never become a Marvel land as such. Is this true? Can anyone expand on this further? Not only do I have no clue what this means, but why would the park start renaming Tower of Terror if it's gonna be such a pain in the butt to use Marvel characters without using the Marvel name? IMO Disney doesn't even need Marvel to keep their parks busy, so I don't really get it in the first place. Not only that they're taking away a very valued attraction and not many people seem happy about it.

^Seriously! I want my Intamin airtime gosh darnnit! Whether it was just Knott's or Knott's and Soak City, that's absolutely insane. I can't even believe that lame-o water park would even make a difference in attendance, and considering how little the park has done to expand in the past years, hats off to Cedar Fair in Buena Park! Also considering Universal Studios, I really don't care what the price would be for a "buy a year get a year" that park is such a gigantic pain in the ass to get to, I would never even imagine dealing with that more than once a year even if they gave the gate away, and offered free parking too! IMO the convenience alone gives Knott's the edge, and it looks like they took advantage of it.

^Beat me to it Mediocre coaster in a fantastic park. Shrug indeed. Mediocre coaster in a mediocre park. Makes sense to me. No shrug necessary. As for the Valveronomenoblaykeron link, I didn't mind clicking it because the female reporter was a fox! Although the coaster enthusiast was awkward and cringe inducing lol.
