  1. lol you don't start a fire on purpose to have the fire department go through the trouble of showing up to put it out for you. Just an innocent mistake on RMC's side, Alan just made the best of it. They were lucky that the fire was at the top of the lift though, fire rises so for it to catch on top and then have to go downward takes a bit more heat and buys you a little more time. Honestly though, if the whole ride burnt down I don't doubt they could rebuild the entire thing from scratch, they patched up the lift damage in no time. On a final note Schilke really is entertaining to listen to, you can tell he has a passion for his job and has an innovative mind, which is refreshing to hear in this day and age where we're starting to see a lot of B&M's and Intamin's kinda doing the same things over and over. And he's also really good at explaining the way the rides work, whether from a decade or go or to this day. Definitely a great guy to be working for RMC who are making some of the most unique rides and layouts we've seen in a long time.
  2. LOL wut? You're don't allow links to YouTube?? Not like it was a private or xxx porn site or something. You'd think a coaster enthusiast community forum would want to allow its members to share as much information about the industry as possible so everyone gets to see and learn everything that's out there. Especially a GREAT interview like that! I don't get what you're talking about. I'm confused. Anyway, on a high note, I'm really glad I got to see that link before it was deleted and am sorry to anyone that doesn't get to see it because of...who knows, really. An awesome video interview with RMC's Alan Schilke, a guy I've never seen talk before, but a very inventive guy that you can tell loves coasters and keeps up on the coaster information like all of us. He talks about how he envisioned Twisted Colossus, and how cool it will be on the ride how if your friends aren't on the same train as you, and are on the next train, you'll be able to race them on the ride with how the layout is configured. Really cool insight really! How nice of him to talk and answer questions for 20 minutes, and he was very entertaining.
  3. lol WHY is that post getting deleted? The link to the video interview with Alan Schilke is soooo FREAKIN' GREAT and chop full of inside information from X to S&S to Twisted Colossus and the RMC company, all from the man himself! A pretty entertaining guy that seems like as big as a coaster nerd as anyone on here. If I've ever seen coaster porn before, that interview with him for 20 minutes definitely tops it all!
  4. LOL couldn't agree more, but it's typical SF and to be honest I don't mind it for some reason. And fine if it's been made out to be a "tribute" to the old ride as an excuse for them just not removing it, but think about it. You could easily have 1 mechanic spend 2 hours a day cutting and removing small sections in pieces, and that thing would be gone in 6 months. Excuses that it can't be removed because of its location is just downright dumb. Anything can be removed, cleared, finished, we've all seen MUCH bigger coaster obstacles than that. As far as Twisted Colossus and them not removing the track of the ride that isn't in the way, again, it doesn't bug me in the least. Yes, it's cheap in not spending money and time to take them out, but at this point I'm used to it. Gave up on Magic Mountain being Disney a long time ago. I'm just happy there are some awesome rides that continue to operate and that the park spends money to install new rides, even some times incredible rides, every couple years.
  5. Thanks for the updated photos and for the person who posted that TC fact sheet the park gave out! Much appreciated! Wow. They really are trimming A LOT of the old structure off the old ride. Seems like A LOT more than other Rocky Mountain coasters that have been redone, but maybe I'm wrong and just wasn't familiar with the other ones or I wasn't paying attention enough to the construction. Looks to me like 1/2-3/4 of that 1st turnaround is pretty much gone, and I have a feeling they're just getting started with the trimming. I don't care at all though, whatever they have to do to make a Colossus facelift, I'm all for it. And anybody bitching about this ride ALREADY or talking crap about Magic Mountain basically doing EXACTLY what so many of us on the site wanted them to do, how about you both shut up AND don't visit the park when the ride opens. Yeeaaaaah, that'd be great. I'm critical of Magic Mountain like the next guy, but there's no way I can hate on what they're doing to this ride. And I'm also surprised nobody's made a big deal about the DOUBLE DOWN element! Finally, it's back! Not really in the same location, but still THE DOUBLE DOWN IS FINALLY BACK!!!! Who's looking forward to some RMC airtime in Southern California?? This guy!
  6. Magic Mountain is so hit and miss. Who knows what kind of day you'll have no matter the conditions. X2 will valley in the wind. It has done it during test runs. But I don't think higher up staff minds keeping it closed to keep running costs down for the day (let's be honest, the SF staff does not care whether you get to ride it or not once you've paid to get in). Lex Luther likely has break downs when the tower is swaying too much due to high winds, so they would rather never mind opening that either. Viper pretty much runs no matter what, can't remember it ever being closed, so something else must have been going on. IMO the park honestly doesn't care if it's a marquee attraction or not. I think the typical park guest just associates "laziness" with the terrible attitudes of the park employees and ride operators who still to this day do not care about the experience of the paying guest.
  7. 1) How do these designers/engineers/amusement parks in China not know how to build a coaster with proper banking, element entry/exit, element shape and transitions? It's like they never rode a coaster before or thought about how it would feel if you took a sharp turn at 40+ MPH with a flat left! LOL. And those loops don't even look like the same shape! The funny thing is all you have to do is look at the coasters here in America, use them as a template, and mimic the design. I mean, even as a kid (I'm sure a lot of you can relate to this), when you get on a ride you learn that banks and angles make the ride smooth or rough. Proper transitions keep you from banging your head around. It's like these parks in China literally don't care and start building rides from scratch before they plan them out. Mind boggling. 2) THIS THREAD IS AWESOME AND HILARIOUS!!!
  8. I would definitely agree with you that Cedar Point is a better all around amusement park, but keeping that in mind I find that the coasters at Magic Mountain beat out the intensity of the rides at Cedar Point, hands down. Even more so when MM had Deja Vu. Just my opinion, don't get me wrong I love Cedar Point, I just found myself a bit disappointed with many of the ride experiences not living up to their hype.
  9. Does anyone know if there was a special event going on at the Resort today? Driving up the 5 at about 9am this morning and there was about a mile long line of cars to exit at Harbor, and it was backing up multiple lanes. It looked like the traffic line went over the freeway bridge on Ball as well, headed towards the park. I can't imagine sitting in that headache to start my day at the park, and don't know why people wouldn't just leave the line of cars and get off at the next exit (Lincoln) and backtrack to the park. Freakin' California drivers
