  1. ^I noticed that too and thought it was strange. Either different trains have different color padding, or they changed them. I can't imagine less than a month in the sun they'd turn a completely different color, especially because they were black before. Another thing I noticed is the padding on the cars is basically only velcro'd on. So essentially, if the general public wants to, they can just rip parts of the padding off during the ride. I think this may have something to do with RMC building their first coaster on the West coast, and out here, people are ruthless scumbags and will put their mark anywhere they find the opportunity. So while this padding may have worked for other rides around the country, someone's going to have to find a better way to figure out how to keep those things on there. In fact on Friday's ERT I sat in the back, and one of the pads on my right shoulder was already missing. Freaking GP, can never have anything nice. So glad I got to ride this before they got their stupid grimey hands on it.
  2. What doesn't make sense? Height restrictions happen all over the country, it's not like California is the only one with them, and they don't have them for no reason. Unfortunately when Sea World SD was built, they picked a location where the restrictions would eventually have quite an impact on the attractions they were allowed to install. Who knew that eventually they'd want to install 200 feet roller coasters? It was basically started as a sea animal park. As for this coaster Mako, sorry to say, it won't draw me back to the park. Manta did, but this just looks like the standard B&M Hyper Yawner. I also they wish they would have done more track inside the park, to interact with the guests a bit more. It looks more like an afterthought and I'm not sure it's going to have nearly the impact Manta did with the surrounding environment. Out of the 3 B&Ms in the park this one looks like it's going to be the least entertaining.
  3. Went 10 pages back, didn't see any photo or explanation besides the shock springs consideration. Not saying your wrong, just saying I haven't seen it nor have we gotten an explanation if other RMC's are like this.
  4. There's actually quite a few squeals on Twisted Colossus, and I was wondering if that was the norm for most of RMC coasters, especially ones with very specific and tight maneuvers, which I know TC has a lot of. That doesn't seem to be quite the case with some of their other ones. I also know that recently RMC has started making their own trains instead of outsourcing, so could their newer trains have something to do with it? Very strange especially considering they do have the polyurethane wheels, so it's not like it's steel wheels on steel I-Beam track. I also don't think those hops before the lift hill are going to help with the trains longevity, as it makes a couple pretty ugly noises as it navigates the awkward left and right maneuvers. Not to mention very strange to hear them hosing down the track right after the lift, not sure why they think that would help. If anything it sounds like they need to take some good 'ol grease, find the screeching contact points on the track, and just start lubing it up until it quiets down. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for the ride, I wonder if they're still working out the kinks, and I really hope things start going a little smoother.
  5. ^^^^WOW. Me neither! And if I did I would probably just go home unless I could convince everyone who went that we needed to get Flash Passes. I can't even imagine what the operations in the park would be like on a day like today. And I'm not even talking about rides, I'm just talking having to wait in line to get a refill on my souvenir cup. I know it's Memorial Day, but I wonder if a majority of this has to do with Twisted Colossus? This just may end up being one of Magic Mountains biggest attendance Summer in a WHILE. I think there are about 1000 cars that fit in each lot, going to the overflow that's what about 3000 cars? At $20 a pop that's $60,000 in the parks pocket before people even walk up to the ticket booth. Gnarly!
  6. Holy crap it sounds like a madhouse. I haven't been to the park when it's that crowded in forever. Glad to hear even with a line to Lex Luther/Goliath the wait for TC is still pretty reasonable. I can't imagine how the rest of the park is operating though. Good day for a Flash Pass!
  7. If this is true, then it's dumb. If people want to wait just as long as the normal line for single rider operations, they should have to opportunity to do so. It sounds to me like the park just doesn't want to do it, and they're turning it around to blame guests who would use it. Again, dumb, because right now their priority should be getting as many people on the ride as possible. I hope this is something that isn't permanent as a single rider line on Colossus would really help fill in empty seats.
  8. I could see this happening. Rides intense, even for a veteran like me. Hope opening day was a gas!
  9. Left the line at 4:30 due to 1 train operation and an hour+ long line (I stood there for 15 minutes and barely moved), got over to X2 which was practically walk on, went on Viper and Ninja, came back at 5:45 and thankfully, they had 2 trains going. Got on the last ride of the preview for the day, and both trains got to ride twice because they wanted us to be able to duel, so we just kept sitting down so they could time it right. It was a nice surprise. No issue for me when requesting the back seat, which I did appreciate. One thing I noticed, which may or may not be true, is that it seems the restraints must go up and be re-locked/checked before the train leaves the station. So even if they have people re-ride and stay seated, they still have to go through and check the restraints. Not sure if it's completely true, but the times I've re-ridden they have gone through the restraints again. No complaints for the ride ops, they were working as hard as they could to get people on, so kudos to them. BTW my comment earlier was just that I was super surprised the ride only had 1 train running, so I didn't mean for it to come off as complaining. I understand the preview days are going to have hiccups and the ride is still not officially open, so I have just been grateful to get a couple rides in before the GP gets their grimey hands on it. I do wonder though, when we will see 3 train operation as I don't believe I have seen it yet.
  10. Wow. Came for preview day and the ride is running what looks to be one train. WTF? Thanks Magic Mountain.
  11. So towards the end of the night we had 3 trains in a row finally sync up through all the elements, and i must say it REALLY added to the experience of the ride. So it is true, there are sensors on the lift (you can see them in the center catwalk) that slow the speed of the lift so they match if the train just leaving the station is behind. It seems there's a program they can use for them to race, and apparently earlier in the day it was off for filming purposes. Some of the most twisted elements and interaction with another train I've ever been on. There are so many turns and hills, and such powerful airtime in a ride that is smooth, but still tosses you around. I would also like to add that IMO the 2nd lift is not a pace-killer, in fact it's kinda fun going up, getting a breather and saying hi to the train next to you. All in all I would like to thank Magic Mountain and everyone who was there, and those that let us ride, for making it such a memorable experience, it really was a great time and everyone was so nice. The snacks and lunch were also a very nice touch. Great job RMC and SFMM for Twisted Colossus. It's going to be a big hit!
  12. Was lucky enough to get on the first public filming train of the day, got to ride 3 or 4 times. I will say I am pleasantly surprised by Twisted Colossus, it is definitely not like any ride I've ever been on (its my first RMC). Probably one of the best coasters I've ever been on, the pacing is amazing. I think I like the blue side best. And yes, as others mentioned the ride only "raced" one time up to now during filming, the other times it was off by half a train. But let's keep in mind there are only 2 trains on the track, and it doesn't neccesarilly mean the ride will operate that way when it opens. While of course it wont make the forces any better, i think overall I think the racing could make for a much much better ride experience, so I hope they figure it out.
  13. If you're going to the filming day I would highly suggest wearing a shirt with either one of these thing on it: 1) Profanity (the bigger and bolder the font the better) 2) Nudity (especially if it consists of the crotch area) 3) Guns (extra points for assault rifles) If you wear a shirt with all 3, you've got the hat trick, and are guaranteed a spot in the filming where you'll be seen!
  14. Mark me impressed! I don't think, even in some of my greatest years of roller coaster riding, that I could handle 12 consecutive rides on Batman. To me it is one of the jerkyer, more intense rides in the park (Not to mention one of the best inverted B&M's ever). I mean, SURE, I could do it if I had to, but I can't even imagine what I'd feel like after! Now the original Colossus consecutive ride contest, I feel like that would be no problem, and will always regret not giving that a shot.
  15. Does that mean the ride will not have all 4 trains running on opening day?
  16. Uhhh...I'll take exception to that. Whoever is complaining about airtime on this ride is looney, and ALL states have looney's. And being facetious ( ) I wouldn't doubt there are several people in other states that complain about stupid stuff which us coaster enthusiasts actually enjoy. Like airtime. Don't matter where you're from! Thing is this thread and this park is one of the most popular on the site, so you get to hear EVERYTHING (social media, people that typically wouldn't post) that goes on as opposed to stuff at other parks in other states that nobody really takes time to talk about. Just my 2 cents. And stop the Cali hate just cause you're not here. There's no place I'd rather live! West Coast Best Coast! lolol I wouldn't doubt it'll be done quickly considering the extent of work that typically goes in to newly themed areas at the park. Concrete, concrete, tables, spray painted concrete, no shade, tables. Doesn't really take that long to put together. That being said, I hope there's a lot more that comes along with the area. Honestly I liked it how it was, and while it could have used a facelift and some love, I'm never a fan of seeing this company tear out complete areas for new attractions. They're not very good at it IMO.
  17. Yessiree I'd say you're hitting it on the head. This period is probably one of the last times I experienced it as well. At that time I was visiting a couple times a year, and I'd say I saw its last races basically around the same time Flashback was having its last couple seasons, before it closed down for good. I don't know if there was a secret to dispatching them together from the station, or if the weight and wear and tear on the ride really affected how the racing interacted, but overall my perception of the racing those last few years wasn't very good. However before that time, I would say during the mid-90's, I do remember yelling at the other train as we were side by side going up the lifts, and during the turnarounds and some other parts. That was pretty fun stuff. Didn't know at the time how rare those kinds of Colossus rides would be, but whattya gonna do?
  18. I don't get why the park felt "re-theming" the area with some random idea nobody saw coming was necessary. County Fairs still happen, and people love them! You can still run with a county fair theme, while giving the area a much needed facelift. They could have sold slices of pie in the old Coca Cola Cool Off area. They could have had sold cotten candy and Freshers Frozen lemonade at that old stand. It's not that hard to do a "County Fair" theme that is nostalgic and still updates the area as current. Does anybody that runs this chain visit theme parks or have any clue what they're doing? Think of how many cool simple things you can add to a full fledged themepark when you keep a Fair theme?! There was no reason to half-assedly "update" the area with "steampunk" (which I don't know a freakin' person who cares or knows about steampunk) when what was there was perfectly fine, it just need some TLC. Demolish that dumb theater, and put in a ferris wheel! Has the park ever had a ferris wheel? I love those things! Instead we're going to get an area with a dead theater, no shade, and tons and tons of flat concrete (some of which will probably be spraypainted)! We're supposed to be impressed Six Flags? Honestly, from the improvements I've seen the chain do the past couple years, I'd PREFER if they left the area completely alone and just painted Scream and RMC'd Colossus. I am ranting, and am very thankful for the new Twisted Colossus, don't get me wrong, but am not putting too much faith in the "Steampunk" theme. From what I've seen , these guys just don't do it right. I believe they've been having shows in that theater for a while now. Except they're pretty sad. People might go in there for a break from the heat, but I haven't gone out of my way to see a show there EVER. The only show the park should have kept IMO would be the Batman show, say during the summer run it once or twice a day (One at 5, one at 8). Batman IMO is a great crowd pleaser. I would be interested in knowing how many parks actually "remove" existing footers from pre-existing rides. From what I know, it is NOT easy to remove footers in the ground, and for the most part at a lot of parks, the footers are left where they are, and the new rides are built over them. Which isn't a problem considering one ride is not necessarily going to have footers in the same place as the pre-existing coaster.
  19. ^Exactly. And much like other coasters that have block brakes to allow multiple trains on the circuit at one time (California Screamin' comes to mind) I really doubt the block brakes on Twisted Colossus will have any detrimental effect on the ride. I would be surprised if anyone at the front gate would know what any of this is. Nor do I think they would go the extra mile to make sure you don't bring them in.
  20. I too love Viper, and IMO the way they maintain the ride, it will be around for at least another decade. Back seat over that first drop is one of my favorite drops on any coaster. It really whips you over the top, then spins you tight left. You just don't see rides have a first drop like Viper anymore. And while it's not as smooth as B&M's (which is how I prefer it, actually) it really is a very good ride considering all the unique elements it has, especially for how old it is.
  21. ^I think they winch it to the top as close as they can, then use the muscle of a half dozen mechanics to push it over. I really wonder what it sounded like when the chain broke? I'm guessing the portion above the train would have snapped, and since the motor is at the bottom of the lift, would have allow the chain to freely slip through the crank at the top, possibly being pretty loud. I lol'd because how would we know from a still photo if the train is stuck or not? I suppose if Goliath was a B&M (which probably has lots of chain sitting around handy and can ship quickly) they would be able to have a new one installed just as quickly. It all depends on the availability and compatibility of the chain that is needed to be replaced.
  22. It is a shame that California is not better prepared for this drought. With our planet covered in 2/3 water there is no excuse for this. We should be investing in Desalination Plants not a silly hi-speed train through the Central Valley. Blame environmentalists and the liberals in California for that. They don't want Desalination Plants because they say they're "too loud" or "too ugly" or have dozens of other reasons that are stupid. How is any of that going to matter when we're out of fresh water?! At this point there's no other solution unless we intend on being dependent on other states until we get a couple feet of rain. From what I have read there have been several attempts to put a Desalination Plant in the starting phases near Southern California for years now, but they always get held back, and now even if they started, it might be too late by the time they're done. Gotta say, I'm all for one!
