  1. Six Flags America: 2015: Super Loop (meh) 2016: Finally a Star Flyer, please? 2017: Refurb Wild One for 100th (retracking, fresh paint, etc.) 2018: Sally Dark Ride or HH expansion (likely the latter) 2019: General improvements, maybe a flat 2020: Connect Gotham City to Coyote Creek, RMC wooden coaster or S&S Free Fly 2020 is definitely a stretch, but the park has been improved leaps and bounds over where it was in the late 2000's. Who knows what SFA could look like in 10 years.
  2. Wow, that really means a lot. But trust me, there is still a LOT of work to be done on Frontier Forest. Thank you! I think it is one of the more unique attractions at the park. Indoor attractions for all members of the family are something you don't come across too often, yet it seems management has shown us they do have the capability to pull off such an attraction. This is exactly the essence of park planning and design. In game, the park is up to date with the current year. However, behind the scenes, I spend hours with the game paused, running through possibilities in my head as well as not saving due to trial and error. A lot goes on beyond the screenshots, and I'm glad you can appreciate that. The park layout is much more than a series of paths, filling in holes when I see the opportunity. Frontier Forest will always remain aligned with reality, in this as close as industry trends and manufacturer tendencies. I think you guys will appreciate how the park evolves over the next two decades. As for the remainder of the 1993 season, I don't think there is enough new content for this season to make another update, so I will continue on in 1994. *August 17th, 1993: *Frontier Forest has acquired permits for a 1994 construction project. Land to be cleared surrounding the survey markers adjacent to the Log Flume in the coming days, prompting the removal of at least 50 mature trees.*
  3. Even though we all fully expect this ride to open around Memorial Day it's literally a carnival ride and we will make fun of them for it. Oh absolutely. But if anyone acts surprised or points out how Fury will likely have opened in March, that will get annoying.
  4. In a comment on Six Flags America's facebook page, SFA plans tobopen their Fireball AFTER Memorial Day. I expect a situation similar to Skyscreamer- built by opening, but nothing else. Please, nobody wants to hear constant complaining about this. It is pathetic, but Six Flags' choice and it has been this way for quite awhile now. Move on.
  5. Sorry this park hasn't gotten more feedback. Voltage looks like a good fit. Looking forward to the next update.
  6. Exactly my thoughts. Traditional hyper/mega coasters (non-launched, lap bars only) and Giga coasters are just generally seen as non-inverting coasters focused on speed and airtime. With the B&M Gigas, however, I would be very interested to see an inclined dive loop turnaround similar to GateKeeper. I think that would fit in very well and flow with the layouts we've seen. I wonder where the next B&M Giga will be though, assuming Fury 325 is a success, which I'm sure it will be.
  7. The 1993 season has arrived, along with one of the more unique attractions Frontier Forest has opened. This year, a brand new indoor theater, named Space Adventure Theater, opened in the former location of the Arcade. Space themed films are on tap in the dual sided theater, built specifically for Frontier Forest by Iwerks entertainment. The first movie featured is cleverly titled "The Final Frontier." The Arcade found a new home by the old and rather outdated Haunted Mansion. Enjoy the pictures recapping the 1993 season below, and as always, comments appreciated. Advertising for the "Newest Adventure in 1993" began by the front gate I was a little surprised to see they decided to remove some trees for these likely temporary props, but they did increase interest in the ride Finally, the newest attraction at Frontier Forest, the Space Adventure Theater. Lines were long today, but even with both sides operating, capacity is very low The theme ties together with Looping Starship. It is one of the better themed attractions at the park Taking a quick look around the park... It is odd how this corner is designed. Potential for expansion, I assume... The old Arcade was rebuilt across from The Viking The backside of the structure is not nearly as appealing as the front It is like a 50 foot tall metal box in front of the Forest Flyer. I also worry guests will grow tired of the same film over time. I'm not sure this was the best choice management has made. Last year's attraction, the Alpine Bobsleigh, has been popular among families One of three trains descends the mid-course Coyote has remained fairly secluded in the backwoods Later in the Summer, survey markings appeared in the vacant area by the Log Flume. Something to keep an eye on for sure. Park overview, Summer 1993
  8. I'll try to explain these just for the fun of it... Barrel rolls are like zero g rolls that rotate around a cylinder. The corkscrews in Rct2 are essentially barrel rolls, only condensed. Iron Rattler's inversion is a barrel roll. Zero g rolls are seen on almost every invert. Not sure if they're true to their name... Heartline rolls are best exemplified on those Intamin multi-inversion coasters in Europe. The track rotates around the rider's heart. In line twists are inversions in which the track rotates without elevation change. Gatekeeper's and Banshee's last inversion are examples. The ones on TC and WC are made up on the spot. That's not a thing.
  9. ^Thats a good point. I planned our August Cedar Point trip in the spring last year, and I was too excited having four months before the trip. Luckily I didn'torder Fast Lane beforehand, considering it rained for two of the three days (Ughhh).
  10. In Maverick's station last August... Random guy: "That is an INVERTED drop" Well, if you want to look at it that... no actually no.
  11. These are fairly random, as my home park is SFA, but I took a three day trip to Cedar Point this summer. I would say for 2014 they are... 1. Superman: Ride of Steel 2. Millennium Force 3. El Toro 4. Intimidator 305 5. Bizarro (SFGadv) No complaints with those
  12. Definitely intriguing. Frontier Forest isn't known to install roller coasters back to back. Hmm... But this is 1992. Unless you're suggesting the ride will get rougher in the future?
  13. The 1992 season is coming to a close; I'll keep this short and get to the pictures. No announcement has been made concerning next year, although it appears the Arcade has closed its doors for good and some grading has been done outside of the building. It is a fairly new structure, so I'd be surprised if this is it for the Arcade. Some unfortunate news, it seems as though the park has taken an attendance hit for the 1992 season. The park projects to have hosted just under 1.2 million total guests after closing weekend, down 2% from last year. It seems to me the park just doesn't measure up to its competitors. Frontier Forest has always been a family oriented park, but hasn't been as successful as in the past. With the park's nearest competitor, Kings Dominion (which will soon be known as Paramount's Kings Dominion), having the capability to invest much more heavily being owned by a larger company, some are concerned about Frontier Forest. Hopefully within the next few years a major investment can help grab some regional interest in the park, but as of now, family marketing just doesn't grab attention outside of the local market. The "New for '92" attraction, Alpine Bobsleigh, is advertised at the front gate This is my favorite element on the Forest Flyer- this tiny airtime hump really delivers The Forest Flyer is the most popular roller coaster at Frontier Forest, delivering around 1.4 million rides this year The Enterprise, which opened way back in the 1977, is one of three rides that takes you upside down at the park. I hope it stays around awhile longer, I think it's a great ride Pendulum is one of the park's more popular flat rides as it appeals to a wide audience The Looping Starship is another inverting flat ride. Frontier Forest has become known for its solid collection of flat rides Forest Falls is another of the most popular non-coaster rides at the park, delivering nearly 1,000 rides per hour One of the lesser known rides is the Haunted Mansion. Maintenance costs have piled up over the years to keep the building up to fire codes Some guests have developed a liking to the Alpine Bobsleigh. Not as thrilling as some of the bigger coasters at the park, but nonetheless a good family coaster The children's area features four rides designed just for kids. Although miniature, the park now features two Carousels and two Ferris Wheels The car ride is a nice relaxing family ride, although it is very similar to the Antique Cars which have been at the park since the '70's This is what the Arcade looked like at the end of the season. The Scrambler closed near the end of the season, I can only hope it returns for next year Corvus is the only looping roller coaster at Frontier Forest. I much prefer Kings Dominion's Anaconda for its unique location and much smoother ride. Corvus has become what they call a "head-banger"
  14. Very doubtful of Gwazi getting the Iron Horse treatment. I got the impression it would be SBNO to save some cash until they have the capital to do so. I would bet on two Six Flags RMC projects in 2016, which is never a bad thing.
  15. After a long and unexpected hiatus, Frontier Forest is back for the long haul (pending, well, life). Today we'll take a look around the park in the early portions of Summer, 1992. From this point on, most years will be covered in multiple updates to ensure every aspect of that year is captured. If you don't want to be bored by reading the captions (I would recommend you read them, though, I spent the time to write them), the big news from the beginning of the 1992 season was the debut of Alpine Bobsleigh. Manufactured by Mack rides, this family friendly roller coaster is unique in that it does not run on designated rails, but rather by the curvature of the track. Alpine Bobsleigh stands nearly 6 stories tall and runs three 7-car trains holding 14 passengers per car. The Mine Train Cafe did not return after more than 15 seasons at the park, replaced by the Western Market. *For some historical context, Kings Dominion, the closest competitor to Frontier Forest, opened Avalanche, also a Mack Bobsled, in 1988, and Anaconda, an Arrow multi-looper, in 1991. Comments/criticism appreciated! After a long offseason, let's take a look around the park to reacquaint ourselves with the park Last year's addition, Forest Falls, remains a guest favorite water attraction Corvus, approaching a decade of operation, could use a fresh coat of paint and some TLC The same could be said for Forest Flyer, which continues to thrill riders with its surprisingly steep 50 degree drop and praised "airtime" Nearby, it seems the Arcade has been boarded up. Curious to see if this is just scheduled maintenance, or something else. The biggest news of 1992 was the debut of Alpine Bobsleigh. It is an odd choice considering Kings Dominion recently built a very similar ride, but management was determined to make it happen. I can't say for sure whether the ride was a success. Being the summer season, I wouldn't have expected the new coaster to be a walk-on. Strange. Exiting the MCBR, which allows the ride to run 3 trains. As expected, the park did a very nice job landscaping and retaining many of the trees which stood in the bare plot. The Mine Train Cafe closed its doors for good last fall, replaced around the corner with the Western Market, an eat-in market style venue. A look back at the intertwining mess of track on Coyote. The third train was out of commission; possibly for maintenance? Overview from the Summer of 1992.
  16. Since around 2000, Intamin has dominated enthusiast polls and top 10 lists with rides like Millennium Force, Bizarro/S:ROS, Skyrush, El Toro, and Maverick (to name a few). Will we ever (the forseeable future) see B&M top an enthusiast poll or stand on top of many enthusiasts lists with a single ride? B&M has built many top 10 caliber rides, but will they ever be #1? And with what, a hyper/giga, or something else?
  17. Truth. And SeaWorld doesn't want to pay to operate it anymore.
  18. If a coaster is dropped off the lift "x" mph faster, it's top speed is "x" mph faster. This is more of a misunderstanding among enthusiasts, but the speed off the lift impacts the top speed much less than you might think. For example, El Toro's and Skyush's cables have been slowed down somewhat at some point since their opening, and I've heard many people say how much better a ride they think both would have been with the faster lift speed. Unless it is really a MAJOR difference, five mph slower will barely reduce the speed at all.
  19. After a quick check on Wikipedia, it seems that it the chassis was rebuilt when the Looping Starship was relocated from AstroWorld to SFoT in 2006, so it was not manufactured in 2006. I thought the last of these rides were built in the early '90's.
  20. A video linked on Screamscape documenting construction from a few days ago states clearly that a few sections of original Colossus track, notably the brake run, will not be removed for the purposes of structural support. They also mentioned parts of the lift structure were dangerously close to the end of their lifespan, and would need to be replaced whether or not the I-box refurb was happening or not. Obviously the ride is/was safe, but it wasn't very reassuring. Check it out.
  21. Thanks so much for the support, guys! Really appreciate it. A LOT of thought has gone into planning the coming years at Frontier Forest. Much of what you all have said has been in the works for months; it's only a matter of exactly when "management" sees it best fit to take action, and I promise, some major action is on the way I would like to reiterate how much it means that you guys are still interested in this project. My ultimate goal was to make an interesting park that people thoroughly enjoy, and it really means a lot to me that even with very basic building skills and sporadic updates, interest is still there. Thank you. Thanks for commenting! As I said, every expansion is carefully planned and executed with an eye on the long term future in game. Remember, when the park opened back in 1975, it was only a small collection of family rides in a forest with a Sky Ride intended for both transportation and relaxation. Sit back and enjoy the view, big things to come!
  22. I would like to apologize for the sudden hiatus in updates. I knew from starting this project last July that it would be difficult to carry out with consistent quality in updates until the end. Being a Junior in high school, I have very little free time as it is. My life has changed a lot during high school, and luckily in a good way for the most part. In the last month, I've had some personal stuff that has taken precedence over RCT, and Ive simply had other things I've needed to deal with. It's been very difficult under the pressures of both high school and the personal things I mentioned, but I'll find a way to get through it and continue life, including Frontier Forest, as usual. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding through this. To make it up to you guys, I'll drop some insider info on Frontier Forest's upcoming happenings... *Deleted: getting closer, undisclosed information*
  23. I've ridden both Intamin Giga coasters, but I haven't ridden Leviathaj and probably won't ride Fury for quite awhile. I love in Virginia, so obviously Intimidator 305 is much closer to me, but after several last row night rides on MF in August, I slightly prefer Millennium Force. That could change of course with a few more re-rides on Intimidator, but I also prefer Maverick, which IMO is a more comparable coaster than MF.
  24. Obviously this is disappointing for locals too MiA, but who knows? Maybe theyre holding back with plans for a more sizable addition in 2016/17. MiA is a small market park, so you can't expect major additions every year. Assuming the park is profitable, I think Cedar Fair can make the necessary decisions concerning capital.
  25. This all makes sense, and I would agree Huh? Is this just an observation that their past two were four years apart, or do you know this to be true? I think we may need to wait a little while and see how this pans out. There has been relatively little 2016 speculation. I would imagine Kings Dominion as a priority especially among those I listed. They're not "due" but it has been the longest of the larger Cedar Fair parks since Intimidator.
