1. To be fair, ANYTHING can happen with it closing this early! Remember dismantling of Disaster Transport didn't begin until August 6th for GateKeeper. I'm not saying expect a GateKeeper sized coaster, but with the August 9th removal date it definitely seems like they're making way for something of significant value in 2016. If you've watched Coaster Studios, he predicted that Kings Dominion will get a 200 ft tall invert. That would be epic. Either that or a launched wingrider. I just watched the latest "Coaster Studios" video. His video explained why Nitro is better than Skyrush. And that he hasn't ridden with in 2+ years. Please, stop taking fanboys' speculation as credible or reality. It's stupid.
2. The official name is the name you are trying to type. The "Full Throttle" name comes from a filter on this site because of the marketing campaign when the ride was being promoted upon opening. It's just to poke fun at the ride and Magic Mountain.
3. Six Flags America is my home park, and even though SFA is better than it used to be, I'd still say Great Adventure. SFA has more shows and possibly a friendlier clientele (and might be kept up better), but I have a hard time staying in the park more than about six hours. If you like waterparks you could add about two hours with that, but the ride selection at Great Adventure is undoubtedly world class, while SFA's is okay/slightly above average. What you won't do at SFA is wait in line too much which is always a toss up at Great Adventur.
4. Going to bump this. If anyone has any information that would be great.
5. Yes, but that's getting way off track of the original purpose I started this thread with. Mainly referring to elements that just don't seem fitting with the ride, or those that just have no purpose being there. A Mid-course may not be the best thing to have for the ride experience, but it serves a purpose and it makes sense why it was designed into the ride.
6. Congrats on the return. Looking for big things from this park to finish out.
7. Laterals are interesting thing. They seem to be far more common on wooden coasters (especially 90's era) than modern steel, which makes me think RMC will stay away from laterals for theirI-box conversions. Their ground up wooden coasters just seem to massive and speed/airtime/inversion focused to even attempt any good laterals. Then again, look at some of the top ranked coasters out there. There's a much greater focus on airtime/positives/speed and height rather than laterals. Probably not a coincidence, IMO.
8. Looking at potentially visiting Saturday night for my first visit of the season. I noticed the 7-11 ert on the website. Anyone know what coasters may be running for the event? Also thinking of bringing someone with me.. Anyone done this event before? How long can I expect to wait, considering it is less than three hours?
9. The last week of August--I believe it may be the 27th this year.
10. I literally lol'd at that from the second it hit the "brakes."
11. ^That's really interesting. My initial thought was that (yes Coasterbill I love that section by queue) it would seem to flow better with the ride being shorter, it needs to be that length to permit a proper brake run. Now it seems there were multiple reasons for this section. It is much shorter than those on Superman though, which always seem so "off" to me. It makes some sense at Darien Lake being over water, but at SFA I'd much rather have seen another airtime hill. It's a shame they couldn't have built a custom hyper at SFA, but even as it is it's the best steel coaster at the park by far.
12. I was thinking about this recently after riding Intimidator 305--many high-ranking coasters don't seem to waste an inch of track. Every element has a distinct purpose or goal. The transitions and pacing can make a good ride even better. But then we find the occasional exception. The elements that just don't make any sense... that make us wonder "wtf is this?" The goal of this thread is to share some of these instances. Perhaps to discuss any insight on why such elements were incorporated in this way, or to explain something others (or myself) might not have known. Here are some that come to mind... -The straightaways on S:RoS at SFA. They make sense on the DL clone, but always make me think "why?" -The trick track on Thunder Dolphin. I havent ridden it, but it seems so out of place on an Intamin hyper. -(For discussion) the brief (maybe 50 yards) straightaway before MF's final overbank is obviously to permit a longer brake run
13. My thoughts were less about the grab bars and more about this area... Just looks a little cramped to me... I was going to say the same thing. The right arm is a tight squeeze around the bars, and I imagine it might be easy to jab your arm into the bars. Not to mentioned the joystick-like grab bars--not a complaint at all, just unusual.
14. I just watched about ten minutes on the webcam. I think you guys might be exaggerating a bit. Out of five dispatches, there was one instance of double stacking. Most dispatches were in the 100-120 second range. Certainly not very good, but reasonable.
15. Made it back from a very good trip to KD today. Minimal crowds, very few hiccups, and great opportunities for re-rides. I'll post more in depth thoughts on my visit in the next few days, but a few quick notes... -Got my first rollback on Volcano today--that was an experience! Very unique and my first time on a breakdown -Woodstock Express is my new favorite wooden coaster at Kings Dominion. Seriously. -Dominator was a walk on, even for the front row all day after early entry. Weird. -Intimidator 305 jumped up a notch in my rankings to overall number three after ten rides--the last row is noticeably more intense than the front/middle. And I mean *considerably* more intense.
16. No... It's more like two more every week or 10 days. We still have four or five more, depending on the Pipe Scream situation. We also don't know if the official announcement will come immediately. I'd say three weeks at the soonest for an announcement date.
17. Read the fine print. Copyright 2006, scheduled completion 2013. Things change very quickly as it is, let alone nine years after initial concept planning. Also... it's concept art. That alone says all that needs to be said.
18. Maybe you haven't heard... *All* parks do this. It's called being well rounded. Not doing this is what's ruined Magic Mountain, Great Adventure, etc. It's not a one or the other kind of deal, and it's not just "an SFA problem." And the park has been adding family rides and thrill rides... Not sure that's even a gray area, it's fairly obvious IMO. I'd rather have a relocated mouse than no mouse at all. And "they keep getting clones..." Yeah maybe, since flats are generally clones. Their last coaster clone was Batwing. "At least Cedar Fair makes their smaller parks nice for families." Did you hear about SFA's two year Mardi Gras project they just finished? And the brand new kiddie area from 2010? I'm not trying to be argumentative, but if you're being ignorant to a park and it's improvements, don't pretend that you know more than they do. I'm proud to call SFA my home park sometimes.
19. Are you kidding? Six Flags America is still as run down as it was in 2010. It is still light years behind Kings Dominion. No, I'm *actually* not kidding. SFA is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was five years ago, and has improved more than almost any Six Flags in that time. Nowhere did I say SFA is better than Kings Dominion. Reading comprehension.
20. Both parks are way better than they were in 2010 when KD built I305. That's what it comes down to. The difference is, KD has done this with atmosphere, SFA has done this with rides/general clean up.
21. Yeah, and there's no budget for it. Everyone wants a giga at their local Six Flags park, but after the restructuring they stated they would not spend so much on a single attraction anymore. 2006 was the last year for $20+ million coasters at SF parks, at least until some major philosophy or financial changes take place (or new management). Until then, it's off the table.
22. On a Saturday they'll run two trains on most coasters. The dry park never gets too crowded , so I wouldn't expect anything over 20 minutes, save for maybe Batwing, which you should ride at noon when it opens.
23. No. That is a fanboy/speculation video (nothing wrong with speculation, just saying) and is not confirmed. The locations of the 2016 RMC coasters are already known, and La Ronde is not one of them. Videos such as the one you linked are complete speculation--he used to be a poster on these forums months ago. BTW, I have seen the sign.. They have moved it to the car maintenance building but riding the carriage thing that goes around the park, you can see it. Alan Schilke said , one new coaster in Europe, in Kentucky and one rollercoaster in Six Flags is getting the Iron Horse treatment and then gave this hint: "We put topper track on it not too long ago". They put topper track on Le Monstre 2 weeks ago, this sign and that basically give it away. I haven't read that quote, although it is now outdated. The coaster in Europe (Wildfire) has been pushed back to at least 2017. A recent RMC job listing stated the projects are in Kentucky, Tennessee, and California. The SF project is Roar at Discovery Kingdom. It makes no sense to I-box a coaster if it was retracked two weeks ago. Alan said Roar is not getting RMC'd due to budget issues.. La Ronde documents were leaked showing that the design was drawn and finalized and they're waiting for budget approval. Also: Le Monstre just turned 30 and the track was broken in the section they fixed. Only time will tell. Do you have any source? I haven't heard anything even remotely like this. Why would Schilke comment on SF's financial state? We on these forums would know if documents were leaked. No disrespect at all, but I'm calling BS on this.
