Moreys Piers Discussion Thread

A few more things to share. This is an awesome ad for Morey's circa 1984. My childhood summers captured in 2 minutes. Back when we had two awesome Schwarzkopfs and that insane Canyon Trip topspin-type contraption. Also I was in Wildwood for Xmas stuff over the weekend and needed to share this awesome pic we caught of the Great White by sunset, in hibernation for the winter. Can't wait for spring! -

Wow. Beautiful photo. It's going to look even more amazing once Valravn is complete!! I can't wait for my visit next summer. Not sure what heaven looks like but can't be too far off! Cedar Point really is a coaster riders oasis. This picture makes me want to book a trip today And the two best coasters in the park aren't even in that photo! -

If you've been to Wildwood more than a few times you likely know about Curley's Fries, Moreys fry spots that have been around for decades and have become a Wildwood staple. (Personally I prefer Pauls Idaho Potatos at Schellenger and the Boardwalk but Curleys are good too!). Anyway here is a cool video they posted of how they make these legendary fries. My best marathons are: El Toro - 8 times in a row without getting off train @ CAD 2015. Nitro - 5 times without getting off train for 3 of those @ CAD 2014. S:ROS (SFA) - 12 times in one day, 8 of those in a row. Steel Force - 12 times in one day @ C4Ks. 8 in a row, then came back and did 4 in a row. Talon - 8 times in a row @ C4Ks (luckily then only made us switch seats, not walk around) Possessed - 5 times in a row @ C4Ks Sea Serpent (Moreys) - at least 20 times in a row when I was about 12. I didnt count then but we basically sat on it for over an hour and the ops just kept sending us back up. I don't think I could do a boomerang 2xs in a row now lol.

You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....

... you get in line at places like banks and supermarkets and wish there was a fast pass you could buy to bypass the line. -
This is a tough one. First off, there is no such word as "insaner". LOL But yeah, I don't think its fair to compare the drop of one coaster to the airtime hill of another, as insane as the RT hill is. The first drops on both provide a frightening, extreme pop of ejector air when sitting in the back of the train, though Skyrush has a bit of strong floater air over the crest and then a violent pop a third of the way down. The RT hill on El Toro I feel could more easily be compared to the 2nd airtime hill on Skyrush, in terms of the sensation. But I think the reason why Toros RT hill is a big deal is because of what comes before it. Extreme airtime on the camelbacks, but then on the return its more of a floater air over the drop following the turnaround and the speed hump past the station and then BAM! RT hill. Even after dozens of laps and knowing its coming its still a somewhat terrifying sensation. The first two airtime hills on Skyrush are the opposite - you're still catching your breath after the drop when you're immediately tossed skyward once, and then again (and again and again). There is no breather on Skyrush. * Note: I'm just talking about back seat rides. I only rode Skyrush once in the front. Toro a bunch but I don't prefer it.

What's your most annoying ride song
boldikus replied to Mineralex140's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What makes you assume they didn't spend money on that? Its being publicly broadcasted and the song is copyrighted so I would assume they did have to pay for the rights to use it (tho maybe not, I have no idea). And more to the point, how is this less "original" than, say... Cedar Fair using a Republica track for TTD's station music? Or are we just in the mood to bash Six Flags? For the record, was being sarcastic when I said this was my favorite station music, I think its funny more than anything. But as with any station music that repeats all day, I feel for the ops. -

I don't have a "most annoying ride song" but I can tell you my favorite station music! -

Zoom Phloom @ Moreys. I'm super nostalgic for the thing but beyond that its just awesome: two large, decently steep drops with a big splash on both, a good amount of elevated sections w/ some interesting interaction with the piers SLC, and of course the tunnel under the boardwalk with its cheesy themeing and fake-out waterfall. Glad they've taken care of this flume and even made some upgrades to it in recent years. Probably one of the better POV's on Youtube (not my video) Runner up: Sawmill Log Flume @ Great Adventure -

Car 1. Row 3. The front car pivots downward rapidly on the bunny hills throwing riders over the rear axle upward. You will definitely get the most air time in C1R3, however it can get a bit violent on the return run. I think that the middle row of the last car is the best seat on the ride. Smooth as glass with tons of ejector air. -
While El Toro's drop stands head and shoulders above any other drop I've experienced, some honorable mentions: Maverick. Nothing like that feeling of being violently tossed into the shoulder restraints and then back into my seat in less than a second. The twists right after the drop are pure bliss. *from TPR Park Index Phantoms Revenge. The first drop has a really nice twisted yank in the back seat that surprised the hell out of me, but the insane second drop steals the show. It just feels like its never going to end and then just as it does your head is almost chopped off. Skyrush. Two pops of airtime on the same drop? Yes please, and thank you. Millennium Force. Best part of the ride. The view, the height, the airtime all the way down, the speed you are going as you pull out of the drop. Breathtaking, basically. *from TPR Park Index Nitro. I am a huge fan of Nitro because its flat out fun and not intense at all. But its also enormous and fast. Love the view from up there and the floater air in the back seat all the way down the drop. *from TPR Park Index

What is the ejector seat on Magnum? I've seen that mentioned here but don't know if I know specifically what seat yall are on about. As mentioned I only sat in the 2nd and 3rd rows and got nice ejector on the return in both rows. -

I must have ridden a different Magnum than everyone else when I was at the park in May. I rode it 2xs that weekend without knowing there was a certain way to ride it to avoid pain. I just sat down, strapped myself in and was actually blown away by how awesome it was. After my first ride it was a "must do again before I leave" and it remains a "must get back to ride". I don't know if where you sit matters, but both my rides were in the first car (2nd/3rd rows). To be fair, I also love Skyrush and everyone moans about how painful that coaster is but neither of these rides bother me at all. -

The biggest testament to Cedar Point's lineup is that people don't even mention Magnum, a Hypercoaster that's really, really good. This is the only park anywhere with an extra Hypercoaster nobody remembers is there. Except me! I love Magnum, 3rd fave in the park after Maverick and Millennium. Magnum RULES!
