Weird Coaster Facts
RollingCoasting replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America had its color scheme inspired by The University of Southern California (College the general manager at the time, Jim Wintrode, attended) -
------ Wednesday August 2nd, 1998 August Today was a beautiful day to visit the park I like to make Sky Tower my first ride of the day on sunny August mornings like today Mid-Century Square and Fairgrounds Update on the 1999 coaster: Good news, it was officially approved on Monday! (August 3rd) I've heard that construction will begin sometime within the next week! Saw a concert at the Gotham City Amphitheater. I really like how The Tower of Doom only seems slightly taller than the top row of seats. Aquaman's station is only about 1/2 the height of the amphitheater Swingset's central location allows for great shots like this one Had lunch at the EXpress Cafe Due to the Read to Succeed promotion expiring yesterday, the park was DEAD, so I was able to marathon Connecticut Twister and Hurricane multiple times in a row without leaving my seat I wonder if it'd still be possible to get pictures like this one if Hurricane was removed Dive Slide is starting to fall apart.. one of the boards on the stairs was really loose, and the supports need some paint. Kind of makes me wonder whey the chose to revamp Nifty Fifties Playground over Orleans Park. Scream Machine had the longest wait in the park at 25 minutes Might've had something to do with the fact that only 1 train was running County Fair Snacks currently has a promotion: 2 Giant pretzels and a lemonade for only $3.50. Steal! Loving the new covered pathway to MCS Despite being a kiddie attraction, I kind of like The Jetsons's Jet Orbiters Sometimes I feel like Grand Stand is the perfect candidate for the ride-rotation program. As a fan of the ride, I hate to admit it, but I can't see it still standing (No pun intended) 20 years from now. I think Six Flags could squeeze a Batman: The Ride clone in that spot if they tried If you look closely you can see Verdugo's train completing the vertical loop Fun Fact: El Starfish was the last ride installed before SFCK, then called Heage Lake, opened to the public on May 1st, 1992 Goodnight Connecticut! ---Jacob Karse--- ------

Yes Have you been to La Ronde?

It's almost done From the Chicago Tribune:' Set to open Memorial Day weekend. Interestingly, the rumor about V2's removal was mentioned in the article. However, Tess only said they were no plans to make changes to the ride as is, she never said it wouldn't be removed. Also the park debunked the rumors of Iron Wolf's removal 2 weeks before posting that it would indeed be removed. I'm not saying that it isn't going to stay, but I'm not sure I'd take their word. Also, a few pictures were posted here (Scroll down) showing Orbit and Jester's Wild Ride sitting in the parking lot

------ Thursday July 16th, 1998 July Went to the park today, I figured crowds would be more controllable due to a local fishing contest attracting most of the town You know what I was looking for.. This may look very different next year Here's the plot for the proposed new roller coaster. I heard all went well at the meeting earlier in the month, but it needs one more approval next month to go through. A view of the site from Crackaxle Canyon Fun Fact: Torbellino was the first ride installed at the park Had lunch at Andre's per the usual This corner of the park looks quite nice Being in somewhat of a central location, Scream Machine's lift hill gives great views of all around the park Ferris Wheel dominates the park's skyline Don't exactly know why, but I love marathoning Connecticut Twister in the evening Airtime! Supposedly, Hurricane was originally going to cease operations after the 1998 season, but the park spared it and chose the space behind Aquaman for the new coaster. This doesn't surprise me considering the decrease in it's popularity with new rides like The Tower of Doom and Verdugo stealing it's thunder. The Lost Rapids got me soaked today I find it hilarious how Joker had a non-existent line while TTOD's was 30 minutes More floater air for me! Verdugo maxed out a 45 minute wait Haunted Ranch. Subtle, yet thrilling I've always enjoyed the surrounding area of El Scrambler. If you look closely, Grand Stand's train is going through the corkscrew/flat spin I had to leave a little early because of work tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted on the new coaster. ---Jacob Karse--- ---

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
RollingCoasting replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
We've had an unusually warm winter here in Chicagoland (Where I live at least). Haven't seen snow since late December/early January. I'm definitely not complaining though -

What is the longest length of time you've waited for a coaster? I waited 4 and 1/2 hours for Goliath at SFGAm the day after it opened. It broke down atleast 5 times in line 11. Worst flat ride ever. Name it. I don't really dislike any flats I've been on, but the top spin type ride at Adventureland (Iowa) looks awful 12. Your favorite SWEET treat at a park that is NOT your home park. Didn't try anything, but Donley's Wild West looked like they had a ton of good food when I went years back 13. Congratulations! After aggressively gambling on the Plinko game you finally won a front of the line pass. Which ride do you use it on? Assuming you mean homepark... Raging Bull. Otherwise, Apocalypse at Six Flags America 14. If you could have a lifetime fast pass to ONE attraction what would it be? Apocalypse at Six Flags America 15. Do you want an invert/hyper/dive/floorless/flyer/wing/standup? All of the above is not an option. STAND-UP 17. Name your favorite Vekoma. Hidden treasures/left overs
RollingCoasting replied to Zingoman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My homepark (SFGAm) has a ton of left over remnants from former attractions Pictured is a sign from the former Great America Raceway (1976-2010). The park never completely torn down all of the ride's track, it's still very visible from American Eagle's queue, and I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly, the cars were still there until 2012 or 2013. This past summer I rode Dare Devil Dive for the first time (Located right next to AE) and from the queue there's even better views, including this sign. You can also see where the track ends, it pretty much encircles Dare Devil Dive's platform Track still up in 2016. I didn't get a picture, but it's clearly visible where the track ends from DDD's queue (Not my picture) Iron Wolf's old exit sign re-used for Revolution Trailblazer, a Zamperla Joker ride that was removed from the park in 2006, still has it's queue and ride platform standing after a decade. Very visible from inside Southwest Territory or while riding Demon or the train. -
2 more pictures, courtesy of user "SFGAM_Hog" over at SFGAmWorld.com (Shared with permission) View from the employee parking lot Jester' s Wild Ride sitting in the parking lot Looks like construction is moving along nicely. I wonder if they're getting ready to ship JWR to another park. EDIT: If anyone's interested, SFGAm posted their Snapchat update on Twitter:

Weird Coaster Facts

The last 2 times that Labor Day has fallen on September 5th.. -A B&M Stand-up closed (Iron Wolf in 2011 and Vortex in 2016) -Six Flags New England closed a water ride for a new coaster the following year (Shipwreck Falls for Goliath in 2011, Splashwater Falls for Joker in 2016) -
--- Wednesday July 8th, 1998 New coaster in 1999? Does Six Flags Connecticut Kingdom have something up their sleeves for 1999? According to a recent Whitehall, Connecticut board meeting, it seems that the park may be looking to add a new coaster next year. A friend who attended a local public hearing meeting last night showed me what was at the top of last night's agenda: This is shocking, but welcoming news. If all goes through, this will be the tallest coaster in the park, and in the entire state of Connecticut, I believe. I'll keep you posted ---Jacob Karse--- ---
