Skyplex Orlando Discussion Thread
dropzonefan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Se here, got friends near Atlanta... Sure know what I'll be doing next time I pay them a visit after it's built -
Well, with the 50th Aniversery just passed, I thought it should start a topic on this (sorry if its in the wrong area, so mods, feel free to move this to random). Personally, I think if one of the British parks could ever get the rights to the show, they could make an awesome darkride/coaster out of it... Maybe a launched euro fighter with a great indoor section, and then a launch/lift outdoors. So, what's your takeon the idea?

About the spiral lift, I can understand why they'd do it... It's a simple solution that they know provably has a higher chance of working well. Obviously, they've learned from their mistakes with past products. While I think something like the spiral elivator lift on Coney Island's new thunderbolt would've been cool, I believe it was taken out of Zamperla's project for a reason. Support the spiral lift decision by S&S. -
Most Intense Waterslide Type???
dropzonefan replied to dropzonefan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Weird... I seem to be the only one who findss the trap door slides more intense than the others. Also, where is this huge proslide installation that your talking about going? -

If you scream out the height of a ride at the top of the lift hill/drop (guilty) -
10/10.... BATMAN CLONES FTW!!!
-
Personally, out of the ones I've Ben on, I don't think they're all that bad, or at least as bad as people make them out to be. While the ones I've ridden learnt glass smooth, they certianly didn't give me as much of a beating as other rides I've been on, like older arrow loopers. Looking past the roughness, the layout is actually quite intense for its size, with a few unique elements I haven't seen on other inverts (EX. Sea serpent roll double barrel roll). So, what's your take?

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
dropzonefan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Only been on Vortex at Canada's Wonderland, which is the ride FD's cloned from. It was intense enough, but a lot rough met than I expected, with even more head banging than the SLC they have. I'd imagine FD/the bat would be the same, with all the other suspended coasters still in operation looking quite tame. -
Amazing water slides
dropzonefan replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's another slide from the park where the slide wheel is going (also same manufacturer I believe). Looks pretty crazy... And FUN! -
Well, with all the waterslide designers showing off all their crazy stuff at IAAPADATE, I thought I'd start this thread. Tornado, Speed slide, Skybox drop slide, Water coaster or something else? I'd have to go with the trap door slides myself... That pure freed all feeling during the initial drop, plus the crazyount of Gs you hit while pulling out of the descent is crazy! Also find the multi-drop speed slides give great airtime.

Proslide Rocket Vs. Master Blaster?
dropzonefan replied to dropzonefan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I'm very surprised to hear how intense these rides are. Personally, the only real "intense " waterslides I've ridden have to be the multiple-drop speed slides, which can give amazing airtime, and the skybox trap door slides, which are just nuts... And also really awesome! Also heard great things about Proslide's tornado, but for some reason thry don't look all that intense to me. Still wana ride one someday though. How intense you'd say the rockets are compaired w/ the rides I just mentioned? -
Proslide Rocket Vs. Master Blaster?
dropzonefan replied to dropzonefan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Really?... U get airtime on the new rockets?... That's amazing!.... Ride the old concatenation belt rocket at great wolf lodge, as I said above, and other than the first drop off the platform, it want as intense ask thought it would be. -
I kind of like his subtle confidence. From a business stand point, I think they still do a great job. They build smooth, high capacity, beautiful coasters that the majority of people enjoy. Also, parks love their reliability. From an enthusiast standpoint, I wish they would push the envelope a little more, like they used to, to bring back some more forces. Well, here's to hoping KI's new invert will bring back some of the forces we know and love from the origonal B&Ms. If not, at least we've got companies like RMC and Intamin . Anyway, love the new format, Robb. Think my only suggestion for next year would be,8if you have more time, to do like a walkthrough of the convention center, so we can get a sense of just how huge/jam packed the place is... I've only seen floor plans, and little bits and pieces through the footage people have posted

What's your favorite Flat ride?
dropzonefan replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I understand that I praised intamin towers before, but I also have to say that the S&S shoot up towers (Space/Double shots). Can provide a great pop of ejector air, and give a nice balance of fun/intensity. Launch is also great to. Also, the lower cost of the ride itself allows the park to do some other great stuff, such as build it indoors (very intense felling with the ejector air so close to the roof), as well. The low cost also gives me something to look forward to at smaller parks. -
Russia to build Vekoma GIB in Sochi
dropzonefan replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm still wondering if the Winter Olympics will survive being hosted in a city known as a warm weather destination. Yes, I realize many events will be held in the surroundings moutainous region, but I still expect there to be huge problems. Next 3 olympic venues (including Sochi) are all pretty bad choices IMO... Sochi 2014, Warmest place in Russia for the *WINTER* Olympics. Brazil 2014, Lots of crime from what I've heard. South Korea 2018, Next to North Korea, and depending on how Kim Jon Une is feeling, that's bad. At lest in 6 years we get a good venue, Tokyo. Anyway, as for the GIB, it's cool to see more of these things. I'm surprised other companies haven't made similar versions of it in the 10 or so years they've been out of production. -
Airtime Hills
dropzonefan replied to Jackdude101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes. In a more serious note (El Toro is quite an extreme case! ), it really depends of the ride. There are different kind of hill (bunny hop, camel back, top-hat...) and different kind of airtime (floater, ejector...). The speed is also an important factor, as well as the length of the train. A long train will gives you different airtime if you're in front row or in back row, etc etc. Absolutely nuts!... looks like something out of that thrillville game for playstation!. Didn't know El Toro was capeable of that.
