  1. ^ The coaster companies like Intamin, RMC and B&M don't actually supply the launches. The launching mechanism is outsourced to another company. Dollywood went with Velocity Magnets, who developed a prototype launch for the project. Launches for Intamins are supplied by InTraSys. InTraSys also supplied the launch for B&M's only LSM coaster. How did we get back to the launch being the issue again? Last TR said the ride was only operating with one train, right? In my mind, that means they're still having issues with the trains. I could be wrong though. It definitely wouldn't be the first time.
  2. Calling it now, the world's first launched hybrid coaster lol
  3. A lot of it has to do with the land the coasters were installed on. They needed more room to move around and construct Goliath, so the lift hill was designed out of necessity to give them that room. Wildfire was built on a rocky cliff side and they would of had to dig through a ton rock to pour all the footers necessary to install the lift with an all wood structure.
  4. The park kinda addressed 2017 on their podcast this week. They hinted that an announcement regarding additions to the park in 2017 will probably come this fall and that those who listen to the podcast will probably know first. I don't know if that means that they will announce the additions on their podcast or not, although that would be a great way to get people to listen to it.
  5. I love that the reference audio was recorded at Holiday World. Seems like a perfect fit for the tone of the game. Since they are a British developer, I'm interested to know how they ended up at HW over somewhere like Alton Towers. This is just a random guess, but maybe it has to do with the fact HW is independently owned and operated? They're probably more willing/able to share their rides and attractions for a project like this than some corporate parks are. Plus, HW has never been the type to turn down a way of getting positive attention lol.
  6. So if the park does get a 4D Free Fly, I wonder what they're going to name it considering they've already got a Batman and Joker themed ride?
  7. ^ If your steak looks half as good as this T-Bone does, you should be good! Unless you're one of those who orders their steak well done. If that's the case, then you're not good and you should probably order chicken.
  8. ^ Sorry, I didn't really mean to share my story, I was just wanting let you know I found two of your videos. You could probably care less about how I found them, I guess I just didn't want it to seem like I was randomly searching for them.
  9. ^^ Well yeah, It's kinda the norm around here. Most place in the rural midwest are 2-3 Hours away from the closest theme park. The drive for me is 2 hours and it isn't even bad because there is no traffic whatsoever. I'd actually like to see them add onto Christmas. I think it would be really cool if they built a replica North Pole, that would be on par with something you would expect to see at Universal or something like that. It would be cool to have a couple of toy shops where they have workers dressed like elfs building toys where everybody can see them and guests would be able to buy them. They could also add a dark ride/family rollercoaster combo themed to a trip on Santa's Sleigh or something like that. They could really open up their imagination with it, because there are so many interpretations of what the fictional North Pole looks like. It could really be that one of the kind attraction that would allow them to stay open until the New Year and have a Christmas event. Although, I think it would really feel out of place with the rest the park. Oh and before someone asks "where would they build it?", the park's main offices are located right next to the Christmas section and they certainly have the land available to relocate those offices to make more room to add onto the Christmas section. If you couldn't tell, I've put some thought into this
  10. The invert that was planned was for the 09' season and was put on the back burner when Will Koch was still alive. The lawsuits had nothing to do with that. I'll also point out that the park had expansion projects every year while the lawsuits were going one. No one will ever know Will Koch's line of thinking for not pulling the trigger on the invert, but you would have to think that he probably didn't feel like the park was ready to add a big steel coaster at that point. If you look at the rides and infrastructure improvements that were added from 09' on, it really seems like they were getting the park ready for a ride like Thunderbird. They improved the waterpark capacity tremendously in that time while expanding the entrance plaza to the water park and putting in all new lockers. They also expanded the parking lot greatly in that time and built their own road and entrance into the Legend Lot. I think a B&M Hyper would be perfect for the park. I don't think it would have to resemble the standard Hyper either. I would love to see a Hyper version of Fury at the park.
  11. We had to wait 9 years for another coaster after The Voyage, so it might be awhile again. The next "big coaster" has to be bigger and better than Thunderbird and obviously be able to take the park to another level. There are things they need to do before they add that new "big coaster". They have to put thought into weather not the park can endure another attendance increase this quickly without having more infrastructure improvements and and weather or not they'll have the slide/ride capacity to handle said increase. The answer is probably no. The reality is that while a big steel coaster is going to draw in crowds, not everyone who visits is going to ride it and they need to have plenty of other things to do for those people who will not be riding. They will always be a family park first.
  12. The investigation might take a week to complete, but they have replacing the cable down to a tee and can have it done overnight if needed. Of course, that's if they have a replacement on site and there wasn't more damage done than just the cable snapping. They replace the cable three times a year. Source:
  13. This is probably the best explanation that can be given for how the park draws crowds in a remote area. This comes from an article where Paula was interviewed about the park's 70th Birthday season: http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/story/32602770/.V6HqXJksNGM.twitter
  14. ^ It may very well could be, but they have to be renting it. I'd say it'll stick around another season or so until they feel like fly wheels have been reliable enough to not warrant the backup or until they add another attraction that doesn't make it necessary for them to need the ride to run everyday. I mean they want to the ride to run everyday, but if it were to go down, it wouldn't necessarily put a damper on the guest experience if they added another big attraction that is on the same level of TB. If one of the woodies is down, it isn't that big of a deal because they have two other woodies plus Thunderbird. Now if Thunderbird goes down, they're gonna have a whole lot of upset guests with it being the only big steel coaster in the park. Just a fair warning to anyone visiting the park in the next two weeks, make sure to check the hours, as they're reduced starting tomorrow. They close at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. this week (except Saturday) and next week they go back to 6 p.m. and that's basically the last week of daily operation.
  15. Yeah I usually plan to go on light crowd days as well. The fullest I've seen the queue in person was last year when the main room and the room with the wagon was completely full (that was around a 45min wait), and that was only because the ride had been down all day and there were a bunch of school groups there. There are a couple of things working against the ride having a consistent line, IMO. It's location is just too far from the rest of the park and once you make that walk once, you really don't want to walk back up there to re-ride it, especially at the end of the day when you're worn out. The second thing is that only a certain % of people who visit HW can ride it/wants to ride it. As for the generator, if you remember last year, they had a bunch of cables running up from those Cummins trailers that connected to some green box thing. The new smaller generator sits right on top of where that used to be. You would have to think that it's only temporary. Both times I've been there this season, the fly wheels were being used.
  16. ^^ I've seen several Saturday's on the webcam where the extended queue was being used. Edit: I checked the park's website and Zoombabwe is open again.
  17. It's running three trains, so looking at the renderings, the first building has to be the transfer track/maintenance shed. As you enter it has to go into some type of show and turns the corner into the station.
  18. ^ Umm that's just a basic NoLimits 2 Station.
  19. ^ Yeah they're listed as closed on the website. They won't open Hyena Falls if they don't have enough people to staff it or if there isnt enough people in the park to warrant opening it. It probably doesn't get a whole lot of ridership anyway with it being so far out there.
  20. Looking at Pro-Slide's website, I think it was actually 5 people. Go look next time you're there. It has the four person clover rafts now like they use on Zinga and Bakuli.
  21. When we went a couple of weeks ago, I noticed this in several areas of SS. For example, a couple of pieces of wood railing in the queue for Ottorongo were broken and hanging down, and there's a lot of areas that just need a good coat of fresh paint. It also seemed like there were a lot of maintenance issues. Zoombabwe was down all day, a slide in Hyena Falls was completely shutoff, none of the spraying jets/fountains in Safari Sam's Splash Land were operating, Wildebeest was up and down (puns!) throughout the day. I also noticed that none of the big slides had the "waterfalls" at the portals going. I'm sure this is just to save water/money, but it used to be a really nice effect and good splash of water. Zoombabwe was still down yesterday. It was down when I went in May as well. Although it looks like it has ran since then as there weren't any rafts on the ride in May,
  22. I visited the park today. I kinda got a different experience than I've ever had at the park. My Mom and Dad wanted to take both my nieces to the park for their first time, so me and my sister volunteered to go along and help. They are both 3&5 and 36 inches and 48 inches exactly. It's been a long time since I've spent any time in the kiddie sections in the park, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I knew my nieces would love it, but being a fan of the park, sometimes I can't help but critique areas of the park and think of ways they could be improved. I'll start out by talking about the dry park. They have an abundance of attractions for the 36'-42' range, but I feel like they lack some true thrill attractions for those stuck between the 42'-48' range. I really feel like they could use a Powder Keg or Firechaser Express, but I also feel like they could fill this void by maybe working with PTC and maybe getting the height restriction dropped on The Raven. The waterpark on the other hand was absolutely fantastic for the kids. Seeing my niece jump up and down for joy about how awesome her ride on Mammoth was really cool. The Safari Sam's Splash area, Monsoon Lagoon, and Kima Bay are awesome for all kids (Although, I should add that Monsoon Lagoon could really use some TLC). It was quite an experience today and watching them have an absolute blast reminded me of why I fell in love with the park when I was a kid. Although today was not about trying to get as many rides as possible on coasters, I did manage to get a few rides on The Voyage and Thunderbird. I'll start out by saying that crowds sizes was very manageable. I only waited for Thunderbird for about 25 mins Around 10;45 and then it was 15 min wait or so right before the waterpark closed. The Voyage was practically a walk-on around that time as well. It was really odd as the whole Thanksgiving section was just congested with people and they weren't riding anything. I was going to try and get a ride in on The Legend and Raven, but they were both broke down toward the end of the day. To add to the review of how The Voyage is riding... It's considerably rougher than it was when I rode it in May, which is to be expected. There's a nice little pot hole on the apex of the 1st camelback now. So much for the added uplift steel lol. The 1st half of the ride is way worse than it was in May, in fact, the second half the ride is smoother. When I was sitting on the brake-run and I looked to my left and looked at the track coming out of the S-Curve over the transfer track/block-brake, and thought to myself that track is not supposed to be doing the things it does on this roller coaster. Thunderbird was amazing as usual. I rode front middle and back between both sides and didn't notice any rattle or roughness.
