  1. This is just an assumption based on everything that's happened over the last two or three season. I don't think Legend's problems have been how rough the track has gotten, but what the track and the banking of the track has done to the trains. As someone pointed out several pages ago, when those trains go through those flat turns, they're basically riding on the upstop wheels, because the lateral force is trying to rip them off the tracks. I imagine this has done a number on the trains over the last 14 years. If you remember, one of the trains disappeared two seasons ago and was said that it vallyed on the anti-rollback by Zinga. It showed back up last year after it was refurbished by PTC. To me, it looks like those turns will still have some laterals, but the main focus on the end of the ride is going to be speed, as all the turns on the finale have been lowered quite a bit.
  2. ^ Awesome photos! The new tunnel looks like it's going to be themed to a horses stall or something like that. It.should be a decent head chopper as they did have the clearance envelope out yesterday. The Legend definitely looks very GCIish now.
  3. Double post.... This might be of some concern to anyone visiting the park this weekend. One of The Voyage's trains has been parked on lift hill for 3 days now in the same spot. The trains just got back from a refurbishment at PTC, so I find it hard to imagine that they would want to leave it sitting out exposed to the elements. Hopefully there isn't anything major wrong with it and it will be open this weekend. Just thought I give a heads up.
  4. ^ I actually kinda like the layout. It's different. No spiral drop and it a lot of the turns on this thing look under-banked, which should provide some laterals.
  5. ^ It ends in 4 days on this thread....that's if Paula doesn't ground all of us by then.
  6. ^ It's something GCI is doing on most of their refurbs. Ghostrider is receiving it as well, which now brings to light why the opening date for Ghostrider was pushed back.
  7. HW just announced The Legend won't open until May 7th. http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2016/04/15/knock-wood/
  8. There's a trim on the final double down.
  9. ^ No. Have you ever ridden Zoombabwe or Watubee? The spinning is very similar. Going down the 45 degree drops backwards is both terrifying and awesome.
  10. Blueberry Blonde Ale from a local brewery here in Southern Illinois called Big Muddy Brewing. Very good stuff!
  11. ^ SDC has a history of starting big projects early in the year so they can get them open by March of the next year. If the rumors hold true, it could very well be for SDC. You're right though, it could very well be for China, ext.
  12. This looks like wing coaster track. As first I thought it might be invert track only because it was laying upside down, but if you look closely, you can see the connector (you don't see those connectors on inverts/flyers) on third piece looks like it is for the apex of a big airtime hill.
  13. Assuming GCI engineered the physics of the ride correctly, it should be pretty easy to attach a few new sensors and flip the power switch back on. Hopefully it won't run into any problems but testing shouldn't take that long compared to a new coaster. With this amount of rebuilding, I would assume the testing and re-certification process will be very similar to a completely new ride. I'd say it probably won't be ready until mid to late may depending on how fast they hoof it. They've hoofed pretty fast the last couple of days. HW did a live broadcast on FB and said they have nearly 50 guys on site working on The Legend right now, which I think is nearly double than the original crew they started with. They stood the last bents today and are already laying track in reverse on the drop. They have a crew putting the eighth layer on return run and it looks like they're working on the final turn now. They've also put some type of metal on The Ledgers going down the drop. They said on FB that their plan is to have it ready for opening day, but they're not guaranteeing it. Once the crew finishes up on the final turn and everyone on site puts their focus on the drop, there is a good chance they'll have it done in 2 weeks especially if they move at the rate they have the last three days.
  14. Here's my two cents. As someone who works in the foodservice industry on the management level, these small sized restaurants aren't able to handle the kind of volume you all are saying they're getting. It doesn't matter how many employees are staffed if you don't have the room nor the equipment to keep up with that kind of volume. I think Six Flags needs to look into maybe putting a big full sized buffet restaurant in their parks like you see at some of the Cedar Fair parks have. I cringe at the thought of how bad it might be in SF park, but it would definitely negate a lot of the crowds at the other restaurants in the park. Now realistically, SF won't put this kind of money into anything like that. Has long as these dining passes keep selling like hot cakes, SF won't address the problem has they have no reason to. If people keep buying them regardless of what the service is like, then why change anything? Yes, it's horrible customer service, but this is SF after all.
  15. And there lies the problem. The only way to fix this problem is to either upgrade the current restaurants or add more. Their other option would be to jack up the prices of the dining pass or put a limit on how many they're willing to sell.
  16. Foreshadowing? Good call? Holiday World did a huge revamp of their power grid for the prep of Thunderbird. But who knows.... HW their own substation. They didn't do a complete revamp of the power grid. If I remember correctly, SFStL has been forced to close several times over the last several years due to power problems, so that's probably why there was a complete revamp of the power grid.
  17. Sam Adam's version of a Summer Shandy. It's not bad, but I'll take a Leinie Summer Shandy over this any day of the week.
  18. It is eligible for ACE Landmark plaque, just not the ACE Coaster Classic plaque, right? Coaster Classic is mostly for historic wooden coasters utilizing buzz bars basically. Landmark just means it has innovative significance I believe. If Screamin' Eagle is getting a plaque, I wonder if Great American Scream Machine will as well. It too opened as the world's tallest and fastest coaster before Screamin' Eagle came to be and is both older and still utilizing buzz bars instead of the awful ratchet bars (I wish I got a chance to ride Screamin' Eagle with buzz bars). The Raven at HW and Eagle are the two coasters getting the Ace plaques this year.
  19. I already told you this is NOT a launched coaster. Lightning Rod at Dollywood is the first launched RMC coaster. This coaster's lift is way slower than Lightning Rod because this is a chain lift and Dollywood is an LSM. That is why they didn't choose a chain lift for Dollywood. Also I hope you're joking but just in case the wheels ride in the center of the top track, not along the edge. That's how it misses all the bolts. lol Guy
  20. What did you guys think was going on when there was that 3 week stretch when there was no track going up? They got ahead on everything else done so they could start testing once the last piece of track went up and the trains were put on the track. I say one of the reasons this thing looks so fast already is that this is the first I-Box coaster where they stripped the paint on the running rails where the wheels run. There is no break-in period where they're waiting for the wheels to tear the paint off the track.
  21. So basically they're gonna have to put on a whole new launch system from a different company? That would explain why the trains were took off because they're gonna have to redesign where the LSM's go through the train to meet the new clearances. I wonder who will supply the launch now? This.
  22. I'm not too worried. HW has never missed an opening day with an attraction. It looks like they're putting the top steel down on the return section. The track on the drop won't take them as longs as you would think. My guess would be that they'll have the ride opened on time, but the themed tunnel may not be done until sometime in May.
