  1. I'm probably wrong, but I don't recall track replacement ever happening on Viper, in at least the past 20 years. There have been trim brakes added and the trains are thoroughly rebuilt, and like any Arrow it is frequently checked and repaired for weld cracks and fatigue, but I have never remember an instance where track has been replaced. If you have any kind of evidence for this happening it would be greatly appreciated. The ride was the last of the big Arrow loopers and designed better than it's predecessors. The park has tons of spare parts from other Arrows in the chain. With rides like Gold Rusher in the park, I just don't see it going bye-bye. There are plenty of other areas in the park to build a coaster. Yeah it's got its lumps but it is still a great ride, that first drop in the back seat is phenomenal. BTW does anyone remember the old 90's Viper commercial with a cereal company? I think it was Golden Grahams or something?? Something about going upside down 7 times? That was a great commercial. i rode viper a lot up until that last 5 years or so. i can't remember track being change, "numerous times", either, or at all really. i'm interested in this as well. i remember being told that the big columns after the first loop had those extra supports added shortly after. but i don't remember that either.
  2. that was a pretty hilarious last rites ceremony.
  3. That only applies to the footers, not the ride structure itself. It's lasted because sections of track have been replaced numerous times (in addition to trains being rebuilt). which track sections have been replaced numerous times? did they do that with vortex too?
  4. i'm indifferent about In & Out fries, but, they are fresh cut from potatoes in the restaurant. basically, it's also the way i feel about Goliath. would be much more fun if it didn't almost stop at the top of the lift, and often come to a dead stop on the mid course brake.
  5. my brother in law can't get enough of in and out when they visit. he's from Pennsylvania and they live in North Carolina. also, since they just opened the first shake shack nearby in west hollywood, it's been a madhouse anytime i've been near. so haven't had it. and never had it vegas when i'm there. some day.
  6. i rarely eat in and out. but, i'm no burger expert. Houston's restaurant is my favorite, but i'm not sure that's really a fair comparison. i do want whataburger since so many claim it's greatness. but i'm afraid it will be how so many claim in and out's greatness as well. anyway, great report so far!!
  7. Maverick has really long wait times because it's capacity sucks despite running 6 trains and having highly motivated Cedar Point ride ops with a dual loading station. Magic Mountain would never properly staff a dual load station after the first few months so it would probably go down to 1 dispatch station with 1 seat checker per side and a maximum of 12 riders per train with about half of the ride units running and the rest cannibalized for parts. Throw in Platinum Flash Pass re-rides and operators who don't care and try to visualize that awful line. And if you don't believe me, take a look at Kingda Ka. It has 4 load stations and hasn't used more than 1 in years. It has 5 trains and they only run between 1 and 3 regardless of crowds (generally 2 or 3) and Great Adventure's staff is generally better than Magic Mountain's. I've seen worse (La Ronde), but Magic Mountain's staff isn't known for their efficiency. so sad and true.
  8. Are you saying riding at night was even better? i'm one who doesn't like to say things like this, but yes, for me, it was better at night. during the day, i haven't been as impressed. i was thinking because of how much ghostrider runs through the structure makes it better at night. compared to like Twisted Colossus, it basically feels the same to me, day or night. currently, i'd say it's similar to the difference on The Beast day vs. night. i couldn't get enough during ERT.
  9. screw that magic mountain coaster count. when they have so many kiddie coasters, short, and crap coasters, it doesn't mean anything. i just want solid, well running coasters that aren't 1,000 feet long. lol
  10. the main Knott's parking lot got a new slurry coat today. drove by earlier and saw the lot all nice, clean and black.
  11. Robb did say he's been hearing things. what was once my SFMM favorite has run it's course. i'd be happy to see something new there.
  12. thanks Robb, and crew. i only did Knott's this year, but had a great time. i thought the schedule was great and spread out nice. i did miss iron reef to get in more ghostrider, so i hope some of you have some reports and pics from there. usually, i'm at home sleeping during the day, so it was the first time i toured the mazes. it's very interesting seeing the creators explain their creations. the excitement they have is awesome. nighttime ghostrider just destroys daytime ghostrider, imo. i had only ridden it during the day up until night ERT. but after that first ride, i knew i wasn't going to make the iron reef walkthrough. lol my right side of my body probably would have liked me to take a break, or sit on the right seat more. the knott's crew was awesome. not just the staff, jeff tucker, etc. but a lot of the regular staff greeted us, asked us how we were doing, etc. so thanks to all of them! anyway, had a great time, and hope they don't stop!
  13. From the sounds of it, you got it at a good price (Probably because you went in May). It's a resort hotel, so yeah, you should expect it to be expensive. What we did when we went to the point (And plan to when we return), we got Platinum Passes and stayed at Comfort Inn River's Edge. It's in Huron (Meaning about a 20 minute drive to the park), but it's a pretty nice hotel for the price, and being on site isn't a huge deal to me. If the cost of the on site hotels (and even the ones in Sandusky got pretty expensive, if I recall currently) are making a trip to CP difficult, and you don't want to stay in a sketchy motel, I would strongly recommend that Comfort Inn. Just my $.02 last time i went in 2014 i stayed in Vermilion at the holiday inn. i think, at the time, the comfort inn was much more expensive, so i went out even further. lol
  14. i've ridden Ghostrider a handful of times since it's reopened. but, always during the day. very fun. but during ERT last night, at night, it felt like another coaster all together. i want to say it seemed to me one of the coasters with the biggest differences in night and day rides i've been on. i'm definitely a back row guy on ghostrider as well. the front did pretty much nothing for me. last 3-4 rows i'm happy.
  15. will you be wearing your chain so we can spot you? lol
  16. Green Lantern, SFMM. Modify the ground so it would fall down when the park is closed and then they can replace it with anything else.
  17. along with hallelujah jubilee, etc. wish i could make it, but i'll at least be at knott's.
  18. i'll probably stop by this week and find out how it is. but yeah, sunday should be good.
  19. it used to be one of my favorites. for me, it seemed like over night it went to crap.
  20. maybe if they cleaned the station once in a great while with a pressure washer they wouldn't have a bee problem. lol sounds like they replaced the square wheels on apocalypse, that's great news. BTW, is there not a season photo pass thing anymore? i haven't gotten it since they had the USB sticks, but was hoping it might be on sale as well. i only see the day pass thing for 29.99
  21. it's pretty decent. although in the immediate area i prefer Portillo's or Claim Jumper. I'd say the food is on par with Friday's or Claim Jumper. I don't drink, so i can't speak to that part, which is a big part of rock n brews.
  22. I love the Joker. If I had to answer the Joker Vs TC question, I would say Joker easily has the stronger airtime and more completely layout. It all comes down to what you like in a coaster. A friend of mine who prefers TC said he likes the fact than TC dispenses with the "over banked turns" that get you from one element to the next that he feels slows down the trains. He likes the fact that TC is almost a straight double shot of elements without those multi turns, allowing you to take those two inversions at full speed. Hope that helps. i kinda think the joker lacks airtime. a lot of little pops. i like larger elements. besides the drop, my favorite airtime moment is the last hill before the pop into the brakes. underflip into the stall is great. because i like straight long first drops, and, i don't mind a one hit wonder, i'd give Goliath the slight edge. i am not a fan of the lift hill break on TC. i wish it would just jam up the lift hill.
  23. yeah, i'm sure they didn't offer me anything then. as long as i'm still paying less than the current offer, i'm happy.
