2018 Ohio coaster trip
coasterlvr replied to joelwee's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
if you plan to get fast lane passes, i'd go during the week, and when the hours are longer. coming from california, i wouldn't do either without fast lane. last few trips to cedar point i do three days. because of the weather, you always have some down time. or at least i have every trip. so, extra hours, and fast lane has helped minimize the time lost. i myself enjoy kings island almost as much as cedar point. i also can ride intimdator after fury 325 and still enjoy it. definitely rent a car like has been suggested. last trip i did to ohio, the airfare was cheaper to actually pit stop in chicago, so i stayed a day there and went to SFGam. just a side note you might want to check out in case the flight may be cheaper. i've tried in the past to land and leave in different areas of ohio and it never was very cheap. always much more. so i've done cleveland and drove directly to kings island from there. it sucks, but it saved hundreds. the car was way cheaper too. anyway, just some of my 2 cents. -
i honestly wouldn't mind either. would also be nice if they had the indicator lights on the cars like they do on other RMCs so the attendants can see right away which lap bars aren't in position. hearing them call out seat numbers when the attendant is half way back to their post is another reason they don't get trains out fast enough.

i remember watching an interview where alan said it was designed to race as long as you had 90 second dispatches. which is pretty easy for every park not named sfmm. but, it was even extended more at some point after it opened. i know the lift slowed differently than the media shoot. btw, at the media shoot they did try to have the other train wait on the lift. they could never get the timing right trying to start the lift back up. i also don't remember that pause that it does on the blue side at the top of the lift. a number of times i've been there thinking, yeah, it's perfect, then pause, and green is long gone. i'd almost rather it just speed up the green because it's so slow going up the lift to have such a poor percentage of racing. oh well, it is what it is.

I've always heard this, but I've asked and everyone at the park has always told me that they didn't add weights, they just added the magnet to drastically slow down the spin rotation. Where are the weights supposedly installed? here's some images i found. one from media day, and one recent. light composite panel next to the track compared to heavy steel large piece.

surprised no one posted this. cedar point youtube. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
i rode it when it first opened. i honestly thought i might get seriously hurt. body and head. lol i believe it's been tamed down since with that large slab of metal next to the seats that wasn't there originally. since i hear mostly that the ride sucks, i stay away. i think intamin should gift sfmm a new zacspin with the seats in the correct position so it's not flinging you around. hahaha

ran by Knott's to take some pics of the new construction. sky cabin went up while i was there. i probably wouldn't have noticed because i was looking at xcelerator, but the 3 point basketball guy started saying it was moving and to look since it doesn't happen often. lol all the windows are out of it and it wasn't rotating. mechanic got out at the top and climbed up the ladder. nothing going on at xcelerator. train in the station. not sure how tight the launch cables are but they didn't look super tight. anyway, here's a bunch of pics i took today.

Road wheels? That was the standard name we used for the wheels that ran on top of the rails at SFMM coasters. Goliath's opening year had a lot of issues with "blown out" road wheels (what we called it when the polyurethane had worn to the point of exposing the metal of the road wheel). To avoid damage to the track and wheel we wouldn't run a train in that condition. While normal wear was expected, the level of wear was far beyond SFMM or Giovanola's estimates and our road wheel supplier, Uremet, couldn't keep up. So opening year there were several nights when, down to one train, we were *praying* the road wheels would hold up long enough to cycle out our 2+ hour queue. Sorry... wayyyy more information than originally requested. i remember one of the first nights, or maybe a passholder night, when, the wheels were coming back with chunks missing. and the back of the trains had wheel residue from the soft compound. trains were being taken off often to change wheels, then put back.
