Call me cynical, but when a ride is advertised as a 400' drop tower, part of the experience is seeing the park and surrounding areas from 400' up and freaking the hell out that you're up so high since you're about to plummet at any second. I'm sure this will add a unique quirk to the ride for a bit, but it takes away from one of the primary aspects that make drop towers thrilling. I wish VR would just go away already, it seems to have about run it's course. My point is that Drop of Doom has run its course. People aren't buying tickets to see a view because it's not something that drives attendance anymore. Being able to re-market a ride as a 'new' experience will always get at least a few people from the gate. But I totally get it, that's why I like tall drop towers too because you are so high up it feels crazy and VR absolutely takes away from that. But the VR is a 'new, marketable experience' and the park is a business and this is a solid business move to drum up new attention to an 'old' ride. i think it's a band aid since the new ride probably won't open until july. there are like 15 roller coasters at sfmm that have run their course.

pov looks awesome. can't wait to ride. the three hills is what i'm most excited about. -
yeah, drop should be fun. i do wonder what total drop height is. because the bottom of the drop is still maybe 15 feet from the ground. 150 foot lift, 10 foot or so down to the holding brake, and 15 feet above ground = 120-125 foot drop? but whatever, it looks like a fun coaster. looking forward to getting on it soon. the station roof looks done. i did see the control booth kind of boxed in. the exit and gift shop look like they still need the final stucco, or whatever they plan to finish off in. overall, still looks like a lot to do. i think you can see some of the queue with a white curved thing over it in the video from the sky tower. i was only there about an hour to walk around and check out the coaster. nothing was happening at xcelerator while i was there around 5-6pm. bought a knott's magnet. figured i should have something from the closest park to me. i like these 3d type laser cut magnets some of the parks have now.

can't wait to ride in august when i finally get back there. i don't mind if it slows towards the end. nearly all the other rmc's hit the brakes at high speed. so i'd be happy if one uses all it's energy. -
Is anybodys home park their favorite?
coasterlvr replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFMM, Knott's, Disneyland, Universal. not sure which i call my home park since i'm close to all. but to answer the question, nope, not even close. my favorite would probably be Disneyland though. even though i haven't been in some years. two friends who had silver passes no longer have them, and so far, i haven't bought a pass. -
Just because I'm curious. . . Do you have actual proof of this, or are you just guessing??? Not trying to be an A$$, just wondering how you came to this conclusion. I only ask, because I think this is the first I've hear of an iBox coaster needing track work...? i've seen a couple pictures of some guys in the structure. not sure what they were working on exactly. also, at Silver Dollar City, the mechanics told us they do replace the top layer of track sometimes on Outlaw Run. that could be because of steel on steel. but i was still a tiny bit surprised.
