Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
B&MBoy1982 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am going as a guest on Friday, but will be working at Banshee on Saturday morning. I believe preview day is for those who renewed their passes before a certain date last season. The park is open to the general public on Saturday, but is closed for a private event on Sunday, as per tradition of opening weekend. -

You obviously have not ridden a dive coaster. Both dives are great in the back row at normal operating speed. -

Actually, it is not a brake. It is a chain. It is referred to as the "drop chain". Pay attention at 1:14 -

I went to the park today to pick up a couple things from HR, and snapped this photo of Tropical Plunge on the way out. It is literally right above the associate entrance lane. -

There is a sports complex across I-71 from Kings Island that host tennis tournaments. The park definitely is busy during tournament days. This will bring more out of town guests to Cedar Point. -
Track Spottings!
B&MBoy1982 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess I'm missing how this looks any different than Banshee's track?!? Cross ties on B&M inverted of flying coaster are curved. Whereas the cross ties on their above track coasters are straight. The cross ties on Banshee have a curved edge: The cross ties on Diamondback have straight edges: That mysterious brownish track can be for a wing, standup, hyper, anything that runs on top of the rails. -
Forceless coaster?

Definition of "forceless": -
Are you referring to Hulk or Kong? Either one would make you certifiably insane, of course. Hulk is just reopening as the same ride and Kong is an extended version of a six year old ride. Lightning Rod is, IMHO, easily the winner here. Valravn, though? Yeah, Uni's definitely the winner. I was indeed talking about Hulk. Why would that make me certifiably insane? Hulk is a great classic B&M, and I am excited to see the new improvements throughout the whole experience. What is insane is the constant complaining because a ride has been delayed from opening, or complaining about the name of a roller coaster. See my post in the Cedar Point thread. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=28853&start=29670

If I am not mistaken, a week or so before the park opens, they start season pass processing. Edit: Took 3 seconds to find this on the website. https://www.cedarpoint.com/hours-directions/season-pass-processing?mobile=0 I'd contact the park in a few weeks, and you should be able to get in touch with someone is Guest Services who knows more. I know Kings Island does processing before opening day -

I have never found Thunderhead extremely rough. Of course, I only ride Thunderhead in the front row. -

Does the name really matter that much? Also, let's not forget that this is a milestone coaster for B&M. This is their 100th coaster. I am a theme park and coaster enthusiast. I go for the rides, (and food). I don't care what they name it. It amazes me that people complain over something so unimportant such as a name of a freaking roller coaster. The complaints about Dollywood not having Lightening Rod open is pretty stupid as well. Parks are not going to open a ride until they are 100% ready for that ride to open. If that means a week, a month, etc. big deal. It will be there for years to come. Parks do not owe explanations, or reasons why. They don't have to have construction blogs, webcams, or podcasts. You are presented with the facts... Now, I am paraphrasing the following, but what I get from each park is... Cedar Point: Dive machine named Valravn. Largest and tallest of its kind with 3 inversions, and includes a splashdown and monorail between the second and third inversion. Dollywood: Lightening Rod launched wooden coaster with a bee hive on top of the lift hill will be undergoing extended commissioning. Just enjoy the rides for what they are and provide when they are ready for guests. -
While the steel looks different and is updated to today's specifications, rail radius is likely the exact same as before. I.E. turns, loops, etc. If you ride it when it reopens, you are going to travel the exact path that you traveled a year ago. I don't even think they replaced lift or station track, just main ride track.

Alright, I'll bite. What the F**k are you talking about? I have my 200th spot reserved for Valravn. B&M's 100th coaster. -

Dollywood is more than worth the time off and the 4 hour drive. Now that Lightening Rod is not going to be open, I want to go as I won't be tempted to mess up my coaster count with RMC. Alas, funds prevent me from going this time. (Unplanned emergency Florida trip last week) I have a lot of friends going this weekend and would love to be there with them. Like i said before. GO. Enjoy the amazing park. Lightening Rod will be there next time. -
At night. Afternoon too. Any time of the day, really. All of this x100. That’s the best seat on one of the best B&Ms ever made, and it never gets old. Any Time of the year, honestly! But much later in the afternoon. I've noticed that B&M's tend to have a warm up period each day, and they tend to just haul donkey later in the day. My rule for Montu is front row in the morning, and row 8 far left after 3 pm.

^Isn't there a show or ride in that building right there as you enter that area? I am sure they would keep up to that point open for that attraction if it is still available. -

Even without Lightening Rod, Dollywood is still an amazing park. Let's not forget about Thunderhead and Wild Eagle. Both great coasters. Tennessee Tornado, the Arrow coaster that rides like a B&M. So smooth. My favorite Arrow. Mystery Mine is awesome depending on where you sit. Barnstormer is a fantastic S&S swing. Don't forget the amazing food, and of course you can not visit without getting your "Chicken Blessins". from Miss Lillian. If you already have plans to go, by all means, GO. Enjoy the park. Lightening Rod will be there on your next visit. -
