Six Flags Great Adventure
Solid Gold replied to cooliocody12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Earlier this year when trying to book New Jersey hotels, I was told by every one that I tried that you had to be 21 in order to check-in. I'm pretty sure it's NJ state law, and since you're 17 and we don't know your traveling situation, I thought I should tell you. I had to stay in PA which ended up being 40 minutes from the park. -

St. Louis has the BEST tourist sites of any city its size. My sister lived there for 4 years and I visited thrice in that time (but no SFSTL). My Personal Faves- 1. City Museum (Absolute MUST Do, Bring Kneepads) 2. The Arch (way more Impressive in Person) 3. The Humongous FREE Zoo (biggest Zoo I've been to, and it's FREE) 4. Ted Drewe's Ice Cream (Sooooo good local ice cream) 5. Busch Brewery ( Of course, I did do this before INBEV) 6. Laumeier Sculpture Park ( Bizzare) 7. Botanical Gardens ( Spring Visit is great, and free on...Wednesday) 8. Cohokia Mounds (The other side of the river, and random, but also strange and beautiful) All of those are fantastic. -
Yay Local news and Lake Winnie! But not ONE photo of our super duper painful Wild Mouse? Shame Shame... (jk)

My friend wanted us to do our annual trip early this past May because he didn't know when his summer job started, meaning we'd have to go somewhere other than Cedar Point (fine by me on that end). He ended up backing out with a week before the trip, Meaning the rest of us could've gone three weeks later if our hotel reservations weren't already made. Due to that situation we missed out on: -Storm Runner -Rollersoaker -Possessed -Kingda Ka -Bizzaro Can't be too mad though, because I also took my first trip up to CP and Geagua Lake by chance the last year of the latter's existence.

This news is disgusting. I've never been overly upset over the removal of any ride or coaster that has occurred during my lifetime but this one is just not good at all. Especially when the park handles it like they have. If you're going to remove the coaster also known as the soul of your park, you don't announce it one and a half months in advance. I don't know how serious the maintenance issues must be for them to pick a specific date in September that it just can't go any further, but you can't just kill the coaster and have it sitting there looking operable on September 8th unless you've announced it at the beginning of the season . It'd be much easier to get over this one if it was closing at the end of the season, I can promise you all. This ride is way to important to warrant a press release of 202 words. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the Coney Island Cyclone doesn't get a thread as many pages as this one when it retires.

ULTIMATE THRILL RIDER
Solid Gold replied to ericmichaellucas's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would be willing to Try this. On like, Holidog's Fun Coaster First, then something more difficult. Doesn't seem nearly as hard as skiing uncharted Alpine lines or doing skateboard tricks on a Halfpipe. -

Why? The speed, height, and ride time aren't for both rides. -

THUNDERHAWK! Pretty Obvious I'd say. -

Ok, it's probably not a lock for top ten. But the ride does have several things going for it pushing it towards that which can't be overlooked. Theming Dueling Longer Length Than any other GCI by over a thousand feet (as long as that length stat doesn't include both tracks) at 4593 feet. And the biggest of all, the general upward trend in the quality of GCI's coasters. This year they've built Prowler, Terminator, and El Toro, which have gotten nothing but stellar reviews from all. But of course, it could also not be GCI at all, and also, isn't 85ish feet a bit short of a drop for a 4500 long coaster? Sounds hard to keep up speed... -

So this pretty much sounds like the best addition ever. Themed, dueling racing woodies about 4500 feet long. If they're from GCI, then I expect this coaster in the top ten wooden honestly. Freaking nice. -
The Restraint Discussion Thread
Solid Gold replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: Every Lapbar Ever. This Includes but is not limited to: Buzz Bars The Premier Spaghetti Bowl Saviors Big Fun Intamin Coasters Schwarzkopf Loopers Millflyers And the best, most open, most capacity efficient restraints ever: B&M Hypers Worst: Several choices here, but I'll give a nod to the restraints on the Fly-O-Plane at Lake Winnie. After your door locks, you have nothing but this really really tight and skinny seatbelt that digs into your hips the whole time you're upside down. Super super painful fun. -

Both sides of the Up/Down will need to be near vertical for this ride to fit in the space it has available, if the lift runs parallel to Anaconda. From Station to bottom of drop Google Earth says Millennium Force takes up .12 miles of straight line distance. This ride will have about exactly that much to do a lift, drop, and turn towards and behind Rebel Yell(no room for a big hill after the first drop), whereas Millie only does a lift and drop (both pretty steep). In every facet, the area this ride has to work with based on the construction site is smaller than Millennium Force. Should be interesting to see how this works, since it's likely to be taller and faster, and Especially if it's longer. C'mon August 20th, this is pathetic. -
So I'm pretty sure that's Michael Jackson on the right in the Ace Hotel pic.

Nürburgring launched coaster
Solid Gold replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So...are we looking at a final ride experience of the first few testing videos where the train just rips around the big curve (limited braking), or will they apply brakes before the curve (once the launch is at full speed) to somewhere more like where it operated for the media? Anyone know for sure? -
Erik & Misty's Smoky Mountain Adventures
Solid Gold replied to Electerik's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Ober had probably the best deal ever this past ski season. For TN College Students, you could ski for free on the Wednesday Night session. It's probably the worst ski resort in North America, all told, but 5 hours of free skiing is hard to beat (and there were three or four spots to do tricks off of, better than some NC resorts). I went three times, it's funny to see the Waterslide covered in snow. Things you need to cover in this series, IMO: Some sort of walk on the AT. Pancake Pantry. Nascar SpeedPark. Wonderworks if you can take pictures. Stuff in Knoxville Maybe (UT football game? World's Fair Park? Zuma Fun Center?) -

Solid Gold replied to printersdevil78's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is one of the best Photo TR's ever. You're going to nothing but overdone midwestern parks, and yet it keeps my interest more than any of the official European updates. Keep it up with the lots of pictures of lesser-known park things/museums/food/captions. Excellent Detail! -
Best Re-ride Roller Coasters
Solid Gold replied to AviatorCoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is easy. Millennium Force. It's a nice, long ride, very smooth, lots of good wind, no jerky moments, and everyone on the coaster is excited to be there. Any B&M Hyper is good for the same reason. I wouldn't want to do a long marathon on a coaster where I would need to keep some sort of focus so i don't thrash my head against the OTSR when I'm not paying attention. Most coasters have a moment you need to brace for, that you need to be paying attention to. I think I could just as easily go to sleep on Mforce as get a big adrenalin rush from it. Of course, I'm talking about a 24 hour marathon or something like it. I and everyone else could handle almost anything for a few hours of ERT, any Beemer or Intamin, most woodies built after 2000, but nothing like GA Cyclone or The Beast (or any jerky kiddie coaster!). -

Hells yes. I'm so taking a Smoky Mountain Credit Whore day once Belle Island Village opens this or next year and I'm back in Knoxville. Does the Rudicoaster in Cherokee NC let adults ride (I count powered coasters)? -
1. blue fire has gotten great reviews all across the board. Plus it would be a trip to germany. 2. Eagle Fortress, before anything happens to it. Suspended coasters are fun as hell, and one that's good enough to possibly merit #2 in the world? ( honorable mentions to NEBizarro, Atlantis Adventure, Phoenix, and SD2K)

OMG! Here's hoping for nothing whatsoever that would make them think to use OTSR's. Please bring on the lapbars! So what kind of trip are Robb and Elissa going to put together if this ride turns out to Be Millennium Force with 9 or Ten airtime hills? -
I rode June 5th, and while it wasn't the roughest it's ever been, the fourth drop was not the most a coaster can beeeeee. My most extreme moments list so far would be something like: 1. GA Cyclone 4th Drop back seat 2. El Toro 1st, 2nd hills 3. Raven 5th Drop back seat 4. Hypersonic Tophat 5. Maverick 1st Drop Back row. 6. Goliath SFOG Return Run And that visit it didn't even rank in that group.

Dahlonega, GA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahlonega,_Georgia Monster Plantation is great, BTW. Probably my 4th favorite ride in the park, behind Goliath, Mindbender, and Acrophobia. Also, GA Cyclone this year is nothing like GA Cyclone back in 2004-2006. The airtime hill is supposed to be the one you have a picture of, but something is off this year. Used to be so intense that you could get thigh bruises with two or more rides. Also, Superman is indeed boring (and uncomfortable), and since my second or third ride I've wanted Viper back. And also Deja Vu.
