  1. ^ If you'll be there in August, then yes, on any day of the week. If Goliath is your goal, you'll need Platinum.
  2. I got that impression overall today. I appreciated the new paint on rides I didn't expect to see it, like Joker. It did seem like a lot of rides were down for maintenance, though. Several in Bugs Bunny NP, and RKMT was down all three times we tried to ride it. On the positive side again, Tsunami Soaker was running this afternoon! So much fun.
  3. Trailblazer Pass won't be necessary. Remember that SDC only has four major coasters, so the pass isn't as big of a deal as it is at other parks. Plus, the crowds that the Country Music Festival attracts typically aren't going to be interested in coasters.SDC is weird in that it can be packed yet have no wait for rides. When you come, do not skip the cave. It's the whole reason for the park's existence and plays a huge role in the back story of nearly every ride. Do the lantern tour if you get the chance. It's SDC's one and only up charge attraction, and I believe it's about $8. They only do the lanterns on the last tour, so get your tickets early as it does sell out. If you can't make it, the regular tours are free and are held every 20 minutes throughout the day.
  4. Well, that was disappointing. Video promised to show the ride testing, and all we got was someone telling us that it's testing.
  5. Meteor at Little Amerricka last summer. The ride op was engaging everyone in the queue and just made it so much fun. No one minded the wait at all; it was part of the experience. He looked like he was having fun, and everyone fed on that vibe. It was a great ride made even better by great staff. Absolutely made our day.
  6. Goliath, American Eagle, and Whizzer are the best coasters in the park, in that order.
  7. ^No, you'll get to ride whatever you want then. We went last year on the Thursday after Memorial Day and virtually everything was a walk-on. Were it not for all the school groups, the park would have been completely empty. You are wise to focus on the wooden coasters at SFStL, as they are the best ones there. Of the three, American Thunder has the lowest capacity, and it's closest to the entrance. If you have a Gold pass or a Discover card, use your 15 minutes early entry and head straight to American Thunder, and you'll basically have a free skip the line pass. If not, then just book it there. I would then proceed clockwise, and do Mr. Freeze next, followed by Boss and Screamin' Eagle, then finish up with Batman. I wouldn't say any of the other coasters are worth it unless you're into credits. Two days is more than enough time to experience this park. You can probably do it justice in one day on the dates in question, especially considering the waterpark will be open then and most guests will be there in the afternoons, unless it's unseasonably cold.
  8. I've been watching the POV on repeat for about an hour now. This looks so good. Only a month to go now until Holiwood Nights! Since this will be my first visit to the park, I'm encouraged to hear that the trims will be turned off for the Voyage. That coaster was never enough by itself to get me to take the 6-hour trip, but with two amazing coasters, I'm there. I think honestly I'm equally excited for both Voyage and Thunderbird.
  9. Not as closed as you might think. It was relocated to Little Amerricka in Wisconsin. I rode it last summer, and it was incredible. Not just the ride itself, which was fun enough--but the operations, the atmosphere, the whole package combined to make it the absolute most fun I've ever had on a roller coaster. So there you go. Two are still running.
  10. I'm pretty sure "Changing of the Guard" refers to the way the sign guards the entrance, and how they're changing the sign. Don't overthink it.
  11. Superman at SFDK clone would be my preference, personally. Only coaster in the Midwest even remotely like it is X-Coaster at Magic Springs, and that may not be around much longer. From what I hear, the Premier model is leaps ahead of the Maurer one, so it'd be a good buy. Either one, though, would be awesome and unique to the Midwest. The kicker for me is that I consider San Antonio within driving distance, as you can get there in 1 day (one long day, but it can be done). The Bay Area and Williamsburg are out of range and require a flight, making them once-in-a-lifetime trips for me.
  12. Oh no! 8 years with no coaster! Silver Dollar City: 2004 - Powder Keg 2013 - Outlaw Run 9 years. Holiday World: 2006 - Voyage 2015 - Thunderbird 9 years. Maybe we should consider ride quality more important than frequency of additions.
  13. I like Prowler better than Xcelerator as the top coaster at either park, and I really enjoyed Black Mamba (I like many of those old Morgan). Also liked the overall atmosphere of the park and old school flats. Ans Kansas folk are nicer than Southern Cal people. Thanks for the compliment, but Worlds of Fun isn't in Kansas. It's in Missouri.
  14. It won't be anything like the one in Australia. This is a totally new ride developed just for SFOT and SFStL.
  15. I've never understood how one parks pass can be cheaper than the other, especially if they're in the same chain, maybe with the exception of a year around park, or a parking with a longer operating being slightly more. However, Fiesta Texas is open more operating days than Great America, so there goes that theory. "Everything is worth what the purchaser will pay for it."--Adam Smith
  16. Most of them have gold pass early entry, but just at your home park. We get early entry at SFStL (it's about 15 minutes early for us).
  17. Some of the legs of your trip are routes I've taken, so I'll speak to those. First of all, your Branson-Oklahoma City leg is WAY off on the trip time. 3.5 hours is outlandish. You'll actually take about 5 hours to get there. Also, I-44 in Oklahoma is a toll road, and you haven't accounted for toll costs at all. Also, gas is not the only cost in traveling. For one, make sure you change your oil before and after the trip--and those are part of the travel costs. Also, the car will need to be up on maintenance, and this trip will significantly add to the wear and tear. I use the IRS estimate of $.50 per mile. Your real costs for a 300-mile leg are about $150, not $30. Let's face it, there's no cheap way to do a three-week trip; it's going to cost a lot. But if you can come up with the money, it may just be the most awesome trip you ever take. So go for it; just be sure you consider everything before going.
  18. Yeah, we totally should. 2016: Six Flags Over Manhattan, a brand-new park, is built in 2 weeks. It's in Manhattan, Kansas. The star attraction is an Intamin racing woodie that is an exact clone of American Eagle. In fact, that's the only attraction. The whole park is that coaster, one bathroom, and a Johnny Rocket's. 2017: Six Flags revamps their marketing so that people know it's in Kansas and not New York. Park renamed "Six Flags Over Manhattan, Kansas--That's in Kansas, Everybody. You Know, With More Corn And Fewer Empire State Buildings." A new Vertical Velocity is built, and nothing else. 2018: Debut of a new Intamin prefab woodie. The park celebrates now having three rides total. 2019: Park decides the name is too long and renames itself "Six Flags Over Intamins." New name coincides with Intamin giga debut. 2020: Park celebrates the construction of its fifth Intamin coaster (and fifth ride of any kind), a 500-foot strata that launches at 151 mph and therefore can be marketed as the fastest coaster in the world. The park also constructs its second bathroom. There is still absolutely nothing else in the park. Roller coasters are all you need. And a Johnny Rocket's. Gotta have one of those.
