Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Are the 7 year olds 48" yet? That's the magic number for Cedar Point, and a lot of places really. My eight-year-old hit 48" a couple years ago, so if they're at that, they are going to have a great time at Cedar Point. Less than that, you pretty much just have flats. There are a lot at CP, and they can have fun, but it's going to be just the two children's areas really. If they are 48", you have Millennium Force, Magnum, Gemini, and more. -

http://www.wibw.com/content/news/Report-says-Schlitterbahns-co-owner-arrested-477979253.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk If you look at the indictment, the charge is actually involuntary manslaughter, not murder. I think that's the appropriate charge. He wasn't trying to kill the kid, he just didn't care if someone died.

Yeah, Oceans of Fun has had lots to do for kids for quite some time. I think it's Missouri's best waterpark. WoF seems to be making a lot of general improvements of late, and that could be the groundwork for a new coaster. Not sure when, and I doubt it would be next year, but when they're ready, they will.

This is why you always check the Events section of a theme park's website when trip planning. It's been listed since January. -

The old system was Fri-Sun. It changed this year to June 8 to July 1, every day. More BBQ for everyone--but less BBQ for us coastermaniacs. -

Well there won't be Brews & BBQ during Coastermania this year, but yeah once it starts, a lot going on in the back of the park for sure. -
Photo TR: An an an an an an an an an an an an an an an an Nwodekorb! Today we kicked off Six Flags' 2018 season, and did we ever have a Six Flags day! First thing was to visit the guest services window to add our Dining Passes to our membership cards. We bought them last December on a flash sale for $35 each, and we are going to be eating mediocre food not once, not twice, but--are you sitting down?--ALL YEAR LONG. We're fancy people with fancy memberships, so we get the fancy entrance. An an an an an an an an an an an an an an an an Namtab! We split up and some of us went to Macho Nacho and some to Colonnades to enjoy the first of many acceptable meals at Six Flags this year! Well, that was a great trip. Time to go home. Oh yeah, they do have rides at this park. Guess would should go ride some. Well, we tried. There were certainly some issues throughout the day. Multiple rides were down, some more than once. They did get the rides running quickly again, and generally the waits were short. It didn't kill our day, but it was frustrating having to leave several queues when the ride broke down. And so it was with the first ride of the day, Screamin' Eagle, which was testing but they weren't allowing anyone to queue yet. My son was really wanting a coaster, so we headed to River King Mine Train, passing two other coasters on the way. This ride was not ready to set our balls on fire just yet. Next up was American Thunder, which was as good as ever. Very solid, very underrated coaster. Also got a shiny Bulbasaur on the way over to it. Yay Community Day! JUMP THE COASTER!!! Coasterbill, is that you? It was now time for Namtab. My son is not 54" yet, and my oldest daughter sticks more to carousels and the like, so I went solo for this one. To my utter shock, the line actually splits under the broken freeway, with backwards going through the regular queue and forwards taking an alternate path. We were given blue lanyards, and the line went to the tunnel entrance. I got as far as the landing in the stairs before the ride broke down and everyone left the queue. Disappointing, but plenty of time to try again. Yks eht kcik! Eh, I tried.... We headed over to Mr. Freeze, and I did get to ride that one backwards at least. Eci emos kcik! Thunder River was more tranquil than usual. Love this ride. Never gets old. Drained rapids rides just look so cool. Screamin' Eagle was back up and running, so we went there next, swinging by Britannia to get some snacks from our Dining Plan and also shots of the Boss. Is Excalibur running today? Hard to tell. Boss' new not-a-helix looks really awesome. Can't wait to ride this. Eagle is running as great as ever. We walked on to a front row seat, and it's hands up fun all the way. I sent everybody over to Brittania again for Pandemonium and carousel while I headed back to Batman and again queued for Namtab. And as soon as I did, it broke down again. So I met up with everyone else still in line at Friar Tuck's, and my wife and son went off to ride Pandemonium while I finished getting our snack. It was a super long line, but everything else was closed at this point. Overall, it was a really fun day with some minor disappointments. We'll just have to come back again to ride the Evitceted tsetaerg s'dlrow! Final score: 8000 steps, 3 flags.

This is really exciting. With all these new additions, I just ask, "Was it fun?" If yes, then the park done right. I already had two good reasons to visit this park, and I now have a third. If the complainers want to hate on it instead of riding, so much the better for those of us who go to theme parks *gasp* to have fun. You're a maniac, Bill.

How do you know with any certainty that where you're going instead doesn't do the same thing? That's exactly the problem for the entire industry. If you told me 3 years ago that Schlitterbahn and KMG would both be in such hot water that Republican states would be banning their rides and arresting their executives, I'd never have believed you. And yet here we are. Nobody from SeaWorld has been indicted for battery via water slide. I really don't think this goes to the entire industry. Seems like one company tried to do something they weren't capable of doing, and they are reckoning with that. I still trust a good number of theme parks and water parks, even though I do understand that there is a possibility of injury. I'm okay with accidents happening. I'm just really not okay with intentional endangerment.

Yes! If you're thinking of going to Holiwood Nights, you need to go. Friday is all about the waterpark, so if you're into those, then I recommend going for two full days. If you're not into waterparks, just show up for the hors d'ouvres and go ride the coasters once ERT starts, usually about 7:30 or so. Those coasters are so good at night, as it gets very dark in the middle of nowhere Indiana. Plus they're so far east in the Central Time Zone that it gets dark early. In my experience (2 times) crowds are light on Friday and slightly heavier on Saturday but completely manageable. Lines will not be a problem, and the extras like food and walkbacks are really worth it.

From my experience, the crowds really aren't bad that day, as it's a weekday early in the season. If all you want is Millennium Force, Maverick, and SteVen, you'll easily be able to do those. With Fast Lane, you should be able to do everything you want. I got multiple rides on all coasters, the biggest flats, and the rapids ride, with plenty of time for the cruise and Brews & BBQ, all without Fast Lane that day. Fast Lane should basically substitute for the ERT you would have gotten. Plus operations are stellar by that point in the season. I say go. -
Yeah, I can see that. I don't know what his previous experience was, as I just don't care to keep track of that sort of thing. But people are not indicted for battery via water slide out of the blue and for no good reason. If I can't trust them to keep us safe, then I won't go, and I'll go instead to a different place I do trust. That was my original point before it went off in the weeds with a bunch of names dropped that I'm not familiar with, and who seem to have zero connection to Schlitterbahn.

Yeah, but that was before they started limiting ticket sales. Lines are quite short during ERT now, especially if you don't go to the new hotness. In 2016 I went to the other four ERT coasters first then Valravn at the end of ERT and it was about 5 minutes wait. This year I'm planning to do Maverick and SkyHawk first then SteVen to allow the line to recede some. The other morning ERT coasters are Gemini and Magnum, which really won't have long lines all day, and TTD, which might not open early anyway. I'll probably just spend resort ERT on SteVen while the enthusiasts who went to it first are riding other things. As for hotels, they're cheap if you get that rate locked in early. I booked my hotel back in September, and I get travel agent rates, but I think the rack rate was like $65 at the time. Maybe a bit high for a Hojo, but great for a hotel just outside the park entrance.
