Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Average high temperature in March is 59 degrees in southern Missouri. Yes, there are colder days, and yes we can have snow as late as April occasionally. (The following sentence is said in my best Missouri southern drawl) And those who know, know Missourah is part of the South. Goodness. It's still quite nippy here in March, 59 would be nice. Well this is great news, maybe I can get to SDC before Outlaw Run tears itself apart from epic -

Ho-ly crap! Well it seemed odd since they don't kick up here until May! And for some I reason I imagine the mid west being really really cold? Colder than the Northeast. Wow this excites me, gotta follow Outlaw Runs progress. A MO trip may be in order! -
List the parks you have visited in 2012
JJLehto replied to ernierocker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I usually hit Hershey and SF:GA 2012 was big: Herhsey, twice Kings Dominion Cedar Point SF:GA twice Knocked I305 and Maverick off my hit list too. 2013 is gunna be huge-er. I plan to tackle as many parks and coasters as I can! -

8 inversions at least? Hmm is this just a purely "we can't know for sure, but there's deff 8" or a hint? Maybe this could be the record breaker..12 inversions? We can dream lol -
It is kinda great so many years ago that ride was like OMG must get there before I die! Now...0-100 in 7 seconds? Straight up and down and over? Pffft we can go to 128 in half the time and complete a full circuit...sometimes I'm sure its still a fun ride but I wouldn't wait more than a few minutes at all.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hope so! I was really hoping it'd be new ride of the year, not that I had much faith in GTA already but Wild Eagle?? Sheesh... Yeah I was kinda peeved there were so many complaints about the "pain" softies...and hope it doesn't impact it. I'd say its a top 10 coaster, for sure top 15. It'd be a joke to rate it lower. Renevations to skyrush? It would be nice if they managed something with the restraints...like maybe instead of a flat bar have some arches in it so your legs could have some space, and less hard material. Not sure if the station can be fixed, given the tight space, but it is a royal pain in the ass! Especially on opening day, it ran pretty well but was still kinda WTF is going on, and some slow goths resulted in the gates closing and the ops wouldn't let us on -

Orlando or Cedar Point
JJLehto replied to gforce1994's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Deff CP. Orlando is great but for thrillseekers? I don't really think so. Not that I dont like the parks and rides but CP has so much, in one place, and some the biggest and best coasters and rides. -

Yes I have heard mixed things, and those who do like it insist on an inside row near the front, Robb himself was quite adamant and I'm not gunna doubt him! I doubt i'll marathon anyway, seems like there are better rides and there's just too many. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How sad, I had no idea they were working on a new SW! I'm sure it'll be unique, I give Alton Towers credit for that. -
Yes! It's back. First time I voted in Mitch Hawker Jordans ballot helper was major help, so easy! The top 5 and 10 were easy, as were the bottom 5. A lot in the middle got difficult to rank. So instead of looking at them all I went 2 at a time. Kinda started going with my gut. Would look at 2 coasters, think which I'd prefer, move em, and so on until it became a pretty accurate ranking. X over Y, Z over X etc My top 10 RANK THE FOLLOWING RIDING SENSATIONS <-LEAVE Sensation of Speed_________________________,y,y,1 Abrupt Airtime_____________________________,y,y,2 Floating Airtime___________________________,y,y,3 Out of Control Feeling/Directional Changes_,y,y,4 Lateral Forces_____________________________,y,y,5 Positive G's/Loops_________________________,y,y,6 COASTER NAME PARK LOC <-LEAVE Millennium Force Cedar Point OH,y,y,1 Intimidator 305 Kings Dominion VA,y,y,2 Skyrush Hersheypark PA,y,y,3 Nitro Six Flags Great Ad NJ,y,y,4 Maverick Cedar Point OH,y,y,5 Storm Runner Hersheypark PA,y,y,6 Incredible Hulk Islands of Adventu FL,y,n,7 Batman The Ride/Clone SF & Other Parks **,y,y,8 Kraken SeaWorld Orlando FL,y,n,9 Volcano: The Blast Co Kings Dominion VA,y,y,10 And my bottom 5 Skull Mountain Six Flags Great Ad NJ,y,y,39 Dark Knight Six Flags Great Ad NJ,y,y,40 Great American Scream Six Flags Great Ad NJ,y,n,41 Viper Darien Lake NY,y,n,42 Anaconda Kings Dominion VA,y,y,43

Well that's a fair point, and indeed most flak is usually at the general crappiness of the park, not the rides. They are run efficiently, especially Nitro on a good day. That line flies. My biggest problem is rides are gone, so I pretty much spend my day on a few coasters, which is why I go only once a year now. Remember the 25 ride addition? They were crammed all over the place. Just 1/3 ran at any time and have all been removed since! What can ya do? Its a big park and big chain... Basically, its fine for once or twice a year, but I've made Hershey my adopted home park < 3 Still stoked to finally go to SFMM for WCB, even though X2 sounds like its not as awesome as it seems and now Superman is lame lol

EH...we all say the same things about Great Adventure, and at least they are half assing it now! For a few years the neglect was just blatant. And with other stories I've heard...I am prepared to say Cedar Fair just does a better job/cares more. That being said, yeah it's a huge park, and part of a huge chain. Like how we accept Wal Marts crappiness but cheapness, we accept Six Flags crappiness but its good rides! And it is just difficult to maintain small park quailities with a big park.

The Official WEST COAST BASH 2013 Thread!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
LOL Thats why Im kind of hoping for morning, get it out of the way once, spare my body, and continue on! Unless the ride turns out to be really epic, like with I305...did it 12 times in a row at ERT and stopped when my grey outs got to blocking 80% of my vision -
Yeah, I think its the obsession with more extreme we have. I obviously prefer B&M and Intamin hypers, as they are better, but the Morgans get hated on. I've only ridden Steel Force but its pretty fun. I like sense of speed, in fact I'd rate it at #1 above ejector airtime and forcefullness. Its what makes a coaster fun and while it may not be that forceful or crazy Steel Force does have some good speed.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
JJLehto replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That Nitro is doing 80 mph, into the final brakes. He asked a ride op, "how fast is it?" "80mph" "OK, how fast is it going at the brakes at the end" paused "80 mph" and went on in awe at how it lost no speed over the ride Forget not being a coaster nut...common sense doesn't poke some holes in that?? When Kingda Ka opened a rumor was flying around NJ that it killed people, via decapitation. I said its perfectly safe, you even rode TTD at Cedar Point, her response "Yeah but this one is a little taller, a little faster, it may not seem like much but itsa big deal...and ya know it killed someone" FACEPALM Not specific but I do hate the love affair with stats. As someone said below the whole KK is better than TTD because its 8 mph faster and 30 some feet higher Or how rides need to be 400 feet and 200 mph with 12 loops, smaller rides are very fun. I missed out on Maverick years ago because my crew obsessed with TTD and Maverick must've been lame...look how small it was. -
100% Yes! Glad someone can appreciate some nice long floater. If its not ejector it gets ridiculed. That hill on ET is vicious! And people bash I305 for little airtime...I never got that. Had my shoulders flying against the restraint. Anywho, no doubt the best air is Skyrush and El Toro. Skyrush, just damn...that's beyond ejector, that's ripping airtime, just ripping you out of the seat.
-
Bizarro underrated? where? mine would be blue streak - lovely little ride! Yeah, always a top 2 coaster, in both the GTA and Mitch Hawker...not sure how that is underrated! Glad Blue Streak has gotten some love! Since my wood coaster list is lacking, and I was too young to remember Twister and Phoenix (better remedy this) its a top 5 traditional woodie for me

SF: Great Adventure. Obviously El Toro. While not my "home" park I have been to Hersheypark way more times than SF:GA and it has huge nostalgia, used to go with my Uncle as a kid and later with my friends when I went to school in PA. So Hershey has a special place, and Skyrush has taken the mantle there after many years of it being Storm Runner
