Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Theyre certainly not great, or even very good, but I actually enjoyed the Vekoma flyers. They are certainly more intense than the typical B&M flyer (granted Ive only done 2) and in a way yeah its more comfortable but also not gunna be sad to see it go. I was gunna ask is there ANY idea what may replace it? I assume the natural hope is a B&M giga I even saw a no limits creation of it which is impressive given far as Iknow....we have 0 idea what will even go there at all -

Hey, are still other entrances? I remember many years ago there were other entrances, once was near the back corner of the park, (which today would dump you right by SV and Maverick) but it was only for CP hotel users. This was many years ago though. Are there still multiple entrances and if so do you need to be at a CP hotel? I always stay off site but if there are ones that can get you way closer to SV I am game. (Even moving at a fast pace by the time I got from park entrance to SV lines were already big) -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Excellent! Thanks for the input everyone. -
The park is still filling out the schedule. There will be June/July hours added as well as other deletions or corrections. Interestingly it appears Fright Fest will go through November 3rd this year with the park being OPEN the full week of Halloween. Hope this holds true. Meanwhile over at White Water the schedule remains blank. That's what I figured but it was just odd to see esp since those are major park months. Well any idea on what crowds tend to be like on a Sunday in early june? That is when I would most likely have to go, OR I noticed there's one random day in Oct (Monday the 7th) that has fairly full hours. Is this another example of the schedule not being done or is this a random day? If so, any idea why? Its actually a pretty straightforward drive from Tallahassee to Atlanta, if I could go on a weekday in Oct I imagine crowds would be small and I dont have to fly. But only if its full operations of course

Dollywood Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Excellent, I rarely do water rides and LR running well is huge, as thats why I chose this park to do over some others. What about a weekday vs weekend? I reckon weekday must be better at that time of year. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So Im thinking of Dollywood around Halloween-ish The park seems to have full hours at this time of year. T Dollywood will be full operations? If so what type of crowds could be expected in late Oct on a weekday and a weekend? Oh and I havent really heard about Lightning Rod in a while, has it been running regularly? Or let me say does it at least run like TTD (daily and you have a great chance of getting on but expect it could go down any time) -

Excellent. Ill (finally) be going here this year, early June, on a weekday. Im thinking Thurs the 6th. Hoping crowds will be very light. Saw a pic of Copperhead Strike with the launch over that airtime hill and despite my brain saying temper expectations the heart is waaaay too excited to ride -

JJLehto replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Any word on when Steel Curtain will be opening? At the least, is it expected to be by early June? If so I will be visiting the park, and am wondering what crowds can expected to be like on: A weekday in early June A Saturday in early June When I went last year in Sept it was a Sat and the park was quite crowded. Would like to avoid that if possible. -

Whoa, tomorrow! Thanks! Glad I checked back just in time. As for where to stay I havent been on site since HS when we went on family vacations aka the parents were paying On my own I usually do breakers express, at least in my experience was solidly cheaper but with all the perks and only slightly less convenient. Thought for first timers I always recommend staying on site, theres nothing like it. All I know is I wont repeat my mistake of waiting too long. Last time nothing was near by that was remotely affordable, was strapped for cash, and I ended up getting a motel in Loraine. Wouldnt recommend esp for an event and had to leave at 515 am! -
Where Are You Going in 2019?
JJLehto replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
OK so I have come up with some more concrete planning. This is 100% happening: Carowinds, Cedar Point, Kennywood. 3 Parks 3 days. Only question is will I tack on SFoG to make it 4 in 4. These will also happen: Busch Gardens Tampa Universal Studios If WCB happens this year I am deff doing and will do CGA, SFDK, SFMM and KBF If it doesnt happen I will most likely still go so I am 90% this plan is happening Ideas Im mulling around: One off parks that are not too convenient (as in not in FL and not easily roped into part of a larger trip) that I may just go to and back. Ideas are Dollywood, SF Great America or perhaps a KD/Busch Gardens mini VA trip -
40 Random Questions [2019 Off-Season Edition]
JJLehto replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Name 3 of your favorite roller coasters, but not your top 3. Storm Runner, Lightning Run, Lightning Racer 2. About how many different parks did you visit in 2018? 8 five of which were new 3. Which 2018 park visit was your favorite? Holiday World. It was a nice park had a fun chill time, aaaaand Voyage in the total dark with no MCBR 4. Your favorite 2018 park addition (ride, food, show, etc)? Steel Vengeance 5. What ride exceeded your expectations the most in 2018? Kumba. I expected a fun but run of the mill B&M 7 looper (I know it invented it) but wow! Forceful as hell, and still very smooth 6. Best meal/food at a park in 2018? Busch Gardens Tampa. I went when the Wine and Food Fest was happening. Some gooood stuff 7. What was your favorite new coaster of 2018 NOT made by RMC or Larson? That I rode? (I dont like to judge coasters I havent ridden) The Voyage (was new for me!). If at all, idk Hyperion looks pretty sick 8. Name one park you will definitely visit in 2019. Cedar Point 9. Best ride themed to a bird? Phoenix 10. Lamest ride/coaster you rode in 2018? Hmmmmmm Cobra's Curse guess cause it fell short of expectations which were already low 11. What roller coaster currently sits at the top of your bucketlist? (degree of difficulty: NOT a new-for-2019 ride) Ive done most of mine by now all thats really left is: X2 but also Formula Rossa because that feels way more unachievable 12. What new-for-2019 ride or coaster are you most looking forward to? That I will be riding: Steel Curtain 13. Name the first totally middle-of-the-road (not bad/not great) park that comes to mind. SF:NE 14. You're in Orlando and magically have a 1-hour ERT session on 1 coaster of your choice at any park in the city. You choose... White Lightning. Its one of the few Ive not done and seems by far the best of em 15. Holiday In The Park vs. Winterfest. Who reigns supreme? IDK never done either 16. Mystic Timbers mystery shed or Wicker Man fire infusion? Never did Wicker Man but their fire looks cool and the Shed was meh so give me fire 17. Which Six Flags have you been to most recently? SF:NE in 2015 18. Intamin or Schwarzkopf? You may only choose one. Sorry to the classic but Intamin 19. Battle of Kings Coasters: Island or Dominion? Pick one. Tough one but Island 20. What was the longest you waited for a ride/coaster in 2018? I used fast pass all year or went at slow times, so 45 mins for Steel Vengeance. 21. What roller coaster have you ridden more than any other? Hmmm..... I think The Great Bear. I went to Hershey every year, sometimes 2-3 times, from like 1998 to 2015 and Id get the great bear usually a few times (like 2-5) each visit so prob that one just due to how long I went 22. Best drop tower under 150 feet? Do the old school Intamin freefalls count? 23. Maverick or Millennium Force? (If you haven't been to CP, pick what you want to ride more) Maverick is brilliant but MForce (yeah fight me) 24. Log flumes or sky rides? You can only choose one. Log Flumes 25. What are 3 things you enjoying doing at your home park other than riding rides? Dont really have a home park...but taking pictures, food, shows if any are good 26. What is your second favorite Cedar Fair park and why? Kings Island. Lot of rides, and also a nicer feeling park than KD. Also their ops were A+ even on a slow day always running multiple trains and ops were moving fast. Though Im going to Carowinds in 2019 and I think thatll take #2 27. What is your home park and give us two good reasons why we should pay it a visit. Dont really got one. My historical was Great Adventure but tbh I hate that park. Some good rides and thats it. Ive always said just take a few of the coasters, move em to other parks and level that place. I currently live 4 hours from the closest park. My adopted home park was Hershey, please go. Jam packed with rides and lots of quality ones but still a really nice, sincere feeling park. 28. Launch or Lift? Love a lift but launch 29. Did you buy fast pass at all in 2018? Yes for the first time ever 30. What is your least favorite wooden coaster? Oh god, ever? Villain at Geauga Lake. I was scared, in a bad way, like in actual fear for my life scared. So rough there was no enjoyment. 31. Disney fanboys: cool or cult? Eh to each their own. Disney isnt my thing but whatever. I do think if you dont have kids or arent a kid and are a little tooooooo obsessed with Disney I find ya a tad off but some think my hobby is off so *shrugs* 32. Best Batman themed ride? As in best batman theming or best batman ride at all? Well...Batman the Ride. So forceful and intense! 33. Name something that tend to take home from parks that you didn't bring with you. Nada. I go with little and leave with little. So....memories!? 34. Best wooden coaster over 110 feet tall? (rcdb will help you) The Voyage 35. Have you ever been hit with something (loose change/a tree/vomit/etc) while riding something? Yes, a hat. Volcano at KD someones hat came off hit me in the face 36. Skywarps: credits or no? State your case. Hmmmmm nah.... seems like it never/rarely operates on its own power and is mostly/all totally controlled. I leave the cred debate to each person to decide for themselves but for me, thats a no 37. Turkey legs: nah or yaaaaassssss? Nah 38. What is the most recent B&M that you rode? The Hulk. Or ya mean the most recently built one I rode in which case Thunderbird 39. You can eat nothing but corn dogs, churros or funnel cake for the next 48 hours, which do you choose? Corn Dogs 40. Post a great on-ride shot of you from 2018. (DO IT!) Sorry dont got one. If I took one Id post it but I dont do on ride pics -

The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One issue I did have with Mitch Hawker's (and he acknowledged this in an email I sent him and claimed he'd think about it but well lol) was the Intamin Mega-lites were all individual rides, and far as I know most were exactly the same, layout, stats, everything. I did feel it should be "Fav intamin mega-lite" just so we didnt have 3 or 4 clogging up high spots when they are the same ride. OFC this would only apply if they were indeed copies of the same ride. Any that is different is fair game! Not a huge deal but something that IDK if its been addressed or not, and if not its just my 2 cents. Glad this is back! I have a lot of new coasters this year, over 25 I believe, and many top 15's Im ready to rank As always kudos for all the monumental work this must've needed. -
Where Are You Going in 2019?
JJLehto replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is my current planning: Cedar Point based trip 1: Carowinds (since I always need a layover and Charlotte is always the one I get...) 2: Cedar Point (hopefully for Coastermania) 3: Kennywood (Steel Curtain!) Possibly 4: SF GA if I take my 2nd layover in Atlanta. The first 3 I am firm on though. I go to CP every year so Im very confident in this. Hopefully a CA based trip (ideally for a WCB) Great America, Discovery Kingdom, SFMM and KBF Really depends on if WCB happens and if I can make it, I will try to leave Sept open. If there is none/it doesnt work out I still plan on trying to make this happen. If CA doesnt work, I'll try to get to Dollywood, or perhaps whenever I visit NJ I'll swing by Hershey. Surely Busch Gardens will happen at least one, and I'll likely hit the funspots. We take multiple trips to Tampa/St Pete and Orlando a year and sometimes I am solo for a day so it only makes sense -
So we went to HHN and USO/IOA last weekend, and it was a great time! HHN was alot of fun, the fast pass was absolutely worth it, did all the houses and had time for rides and a show, still made it back to the hotel at a reasonable hour to boot. We did make a mistake of doing the parks during day, then HHN at night. We were destroyed the last couple of hours, and the last few houses were not as enjoyable. Lessons learned for next year. That said, was a fun time. HHN was good and the parks are still fun. Great detail on the houses, good selection of themes/movies and the scare zones are always a blast. As for the parks I recall last year thinking the Mummy was surprising, and it did have some legit airtime. Last year the Hulk beat my head to a pulp. This time, did 2 rides on 2 diff days and it was perfectly fine. So who knows. Glad it was smooth, because that could be a top 15 ride, what an intense experience!!! The Harry Potter worlds are still mindblowing even having seen it a few times already, and I really love those rides, esp the Forbidden Journey. So, nothing new really, just was glad the Hulk is either back to smooth (or maybe I just had a bad day last year) and we tackled HHN in a much better manner. Oh, got my coaster hating gf to ride Hulk once, and shockingly she didnt hate it. Didnt care for it, but "I didnt regret it" Progress?

My visit to BGT for the first time this year was great, but it struck me as more of a "full experience" over rides park. Like it was a great place for the family or a group to spend the whole day and get rides, food, sights, experiences. Much like how it was when my family went to Busch Gardens WIlliamsburg when I was 11/12. But if you're there just for rides, esp traveling solo (as I do sometimes since the GF can't do rides) it's a bit pricey for not a ton of rides, esp since there's a good diversity but not a ton of thrill. And if there's ever an unfortunate day like I had where 2 flats are closed, feels like a big blow. So I think these rides are good additions. BGT is IMO the best park in FL, and these 2 coming rides can really cement that. I know I'll prob go next year now, when I prob wouldn't have without this addition. 2020 is a given of course
-
One upside to the South: Parks are open far later! It seems SFoG is open even in late November, this is full park operations correct? If so, I may make Atlanta my layover on my trip up north and stop by here! Add yet another new park (and RMC) to my list. Already been a record year for me so would love to cap it off this way What could be expected in terms of crowds for late mid to late November? Fast pass necessary? I would hope not, esp on a weekday but Im not used to going to parks so late.

Carowinds Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Itll be OK. There may be flooding and such, but Charlotte is very far off the coaster, it wont get the catastrophic winds or surge flooding that decimates the coasts. And thanks for the winter fest info! Yeah weather wasn't a concern but the rides not being open deff are Good to know, sounds like a nice time but not worth an excursion out there. No problem I'll go next year which is sensible anyway given the new ride
