Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It could be all perception, but it certainly does seem that the enthusiast community has become spoiled. Like even if not active Ive lurked forums for ages and it does seem like there's a decreasing tolerance for roughness, to now yeah one turn is less than glass smooth and its "rough" Ah well. I am stoked for my trip. My brother went recently, his first time at CP in like 15 years. It was cool because he used to think he hated coasters. Mostly he never rode. Because well, 15 years at CP he rode Corkscrew, because it was small so everyone figured itd be a fine starter (being a nerd even then I warned mom and dad but they said itd be fine...) he hated it, had a headache, never rode coasters again. Well, guess he finally tried again and has found he likes em. Just messaged me about his 2 day trip at CP and loved it. Was raving how many rides there are and how good they all are, the coasters, SV, the views. Made me pumped to go. Like many here I can kinda fall into complacency esp for the place Ive gone 10 times to, but now cant wait. He also confirmed FL+ 100% worth it. Walk ons for what would've been 30, 45 min waits and 5-10 mins for SV. For July! I have to assume late August will be better -

All my PA friends are posting pics and vids, and it's kinda scary. Looks like crazy flooding all over the state. Jumped in here to see the condition of the park and uh yeah, seems like that is true. Hopefully the parks will be OK and reopen quickly! (ya know once its safe for people to even get there) -

All I know is I'm stoked to go. My brother just gave me his own mini TR ha he's always avoided coasters but been slowly getting into them. He found CP to be heaven on earth basically. Gotten so used to it, was nice to hear that magic again. Also said not only was FL+ beyond worth it (including 5 min wait for SV) but that SV was beyond words. Also he found early access worth it even with fast pass so I'll likely cave and do it but prob breakers express. -

Nah thats a risk I always accepted. As did everyone. Again never happened to me or anyone I've ever known in all my years of coastering, but true that IS a risk. A super small one, but one yes. The park is still covered. All those signs and announcements "not responsible for stolen items" is all ya need. I'm with just give people the option, if they wanna risk their stuff getting stolen let em go for it. Then people online can say "haha you took that risk and now are complaining, shut up pls!" and they would be totally in the right to do so Its deff sad we're at the point that this discussion has to be had, like we've had phones for ages, people weren't taking them out on rides, sad its even become that much of an issue. And while I've never imagined items flying out as much of a problem, I guess on a ride this extreme its certainly more possible and that does pose a risk. My only issue is if someone has closed pockets, I think ya know that fear is removed. But whatever, irony is I cant say I really care. Long as it stays for just this 1 ride its fine. I'll gladly cave and spend the 2 bucks on storage, spend some time marathoning SV and Maverick then get my stuff and continue for the day. -

No phones. I had my wallet in a zipped pocket and it looked like a phone. I was actually told I couldn’t enter the queue, and all I said was that it was a wallet and they let me go. I didn’t actually show it to them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yikes, wont lie a tad OTT. Yeah, with fast lane I guess its really not an issue, I'll be solo so the phone is a nice time killer but guess it don't really master with FL. People on the 2 hour line without one, well guess they'll need human interaction again Also I cant help it, I reeeeeealllly question how much is for safety, or how much is part safety part $ (or mostly the latter) which again I don't begrudge, I seem to be more accepting than the avg of parks making $ but eh, I'll let it go. It seems that its just SV. If it was park wide I'd have some beef. ....its not park wide right? -

I'm not sure where you're getting your information but that's not what Universal does for their big roller coasters. In fact, what Universal does is even WORSE than this policy at Cedar Point and I'd like to hope that no park ever ever ever adopts what Universal does. I honestly don't go to Universal as often as I used to because of their insulting loose articles policy where everyone is treated like a criminal. In order to ride a coaster like Hulk, you have to go through TWO METAL DETECTORS at their park! One to get into their park. One to get in line for the roller coaster. Sorry, you've lost me as a customer at the second metal detector. Yeah Universal was awful, it kind of made things a mess and Im glad to hear you say that criminal bit, because I never wanted to sound silly but I did think it detracted a tiny bit (no not enough to not ride or anything) but it did take away a little from the experience. Parks are fun and I like to make it easy, Universal made it a bit of a buzkill. Glad I was with some non riders who had to hold stuff (though idk couldn't have been terribly fun to keep your stuff and the phone/wallet/keys/etc for others) -

Oh boy. I try not to care, because I really don't, I make it easy on myself by traveling light, but it does seem like this is getting possibly out of hand. Cmon CP (or any park) just make it easy lol Most of my life there was no issue with station bins, nor was it any issue at BGT, or KK, HW the other parks Ive been to that do it. I get it, storage is a way to make $ and I am 100% OK with that, really I am just make it easy like it was. Don't get crazy with it. Over reaction always bugs me (in whatever venue). And Im glad not everyone is jumping to defend, I mean lets be real some things are just annoying and as humans its OK to be annoyed OH and yeah, taking pics in line is something the best way, and can be a time kill. The ride, I get it....in line? I don't see how people are hurting themselves, again been coastering since what 1999...never seen it personally. Of all the stupid/weird stuff Ive seen cant say that has been one Yes, I look forward to Robb's and others input when they go. Just wanna know, if I have zipper pockets can I keep my stuff in them? -

So after saying I wont bother forking out extra for the CP hotels because FL+ will make early access unnecessary, I am to the shock of no one second thinking it ha Some were saying SV/Maverick are already jammed not long after park opening, which I guess makes sense with both hotel and non stayers going there. Anyone think this plan makes more sense? Get whatever rides I can (seems 2 is realistic) on SV with early access, go to the rest of the park that may be empty and use FL to then hit up maverick and SV more over the day. Since it seems the park has been shockingly light, and reckon will be more empty in late August -
Its on my top 10 wooden list for a reason. Back row, I got some pretty sick air on it and it does throw you around but yes not in an OTT way, nor did I find it very rough at all, but my tolerance is also higher than many, even back in the day when people seemed capable of handling more than one slight rattle in one turn without whining its rough Also it's tree coverage is a nice addition. It may not be the most hidden, zoom through the woods coaster but it certainly gets the feeling. Great underrated coaster for sure.

Poor Dorney, a fun lil park that provided many good times for me and the additions of the 2000s were good. Sad to think I haven't been there in 10 years, and sadder that literally nothing has been added in that entire time Oh, I was so distracted by the video never thought to check stats. 220 ft and 75 mph, 9 inversions? Hell to the yes. Btw after rewatching, what on Earth is that first drop!? I love this. -

The latter Every year I've been (so we're covering 2001 to 2017 and going on 10 visits now) MForce has been the same. Never any worse, or better, not inconsistent. I always felt the enthusiast hate was OTT and kind of on purpose (yeah IDC fight me yall) so it has to be people are dropping it, ride aint any different. Oh man, where was I? It had to have been KI or KK, they had one of those cell phone/item boxes of lost stuff. I think its funny, either get storage or do what I do: travel light and have zippered pockets. No need to store stuff if you have only a wallet, phone, keys and they are secured -

But alas, Im glad its back and will keep the faith its on next year! Enjoy everyone its a great time. EDIT: OH! They've always done things that way. For as long as I can remember, it's always been a "park gates open at 10:30, rides open at 11:00-ish" type of deal. Phantom runs one train for a while in the beginning until the ops deem it necessary to add the 2nd. They've never been known for great operations, but I think the park's charm kind of masks that a bit. heh...funny what we will look past when at a smaller park eh? If anything is less than immaculate at the bigger parks the cascade of gripe will flow over the internet. Good to know though, I will be sure to take my time and enjoy the park and take it all in and not be too concerned about racing around. -

Its funny, being from NJ (and there being many fellow Jerseyians at Penn State) there was the heated Wawa-Sheetz debate and I broke sheetz, even though none exist in NJ and wawa was like THE convenience store of our childhood. What can I say? Call me a traitor I guess. Also thanks! -

Think Skyrocket may be open by late August. Yeah, not that I super care, but ya know 1st time to KW and what not would be nice to ride it. The bringing in food thing is awesome! Are there any sheetz nearby? I haven't been in PA since the college years (feels long ago now) I would love some nostalgia of eating sheetz, too much, and regretting my life choices -

Agreed Bill. The infinite ride amount is why I wanted it, and its deff nice to have a the freedom of time. I guess I expected the limiting factor to be the # of bands sold. I bought Cedar Point's marketing tooooo well clearly, "Very limited number sold!" And yeah I hope no one is disputing even a 45-60 min wait is better than 120-180. Just if one is uninformed I do get why they would be taken aback, it is quite pricey after all. BUT thing is no one really has an excuse to be uninformed if you're here. Like...why come to a site like this and not take advantage of the info? All I know is, I bought em, just got the plane tickets and KW tix. All that's left is hotel (which Im going cheap since I don't see a need for early access thanks to FL+) and this trip is done. So stoked -

Cant vouch for others, but as someone who's only used a fast pass once before, I just didn't know. When I think of it, I know I think of the "assigned time" style that limits waits to ya know 10, 15 mins. And when I used it at Busch Gardens, not exactly a quiet park and lines were huge that day, I still had 0-5 min waits with a fast pass. So ya know, if you don't know how it works for the park I think it's fair to say someone would assume its designed to ensure low wait times and 45, 60, 90 mins (while better than 2-3 hours obviously) would catch someone off guard. But of course that's why you research ahead of time! So you do know how it works for the park and aren't caught off guard. Im really not a big planner, but even I don't get how people can travel esp to parks and not know what to expect. And true, unless you have no choice I don't know why anyone goes to parks between early June and mid august The heat is always too much for me, ya know the crowds will be bad, and a weekend? Why even bother ha Same for any Halloween events, after I went to fright fest once and it was 3 hours for El Toro, never again. I guess its limiting, and may require time off work but I almost never deal with crowds, rarely need a fast pass and never have gripes -

So here's my thoughts on this... I've used Fast Lane Plus at Cedar Point many, many times. On busy Saturdays, on lighter weekdays... I've seen FL+ lines that are quite long. And when I see that, I leave and go to another ride. Then I come back later when the line is not as long. Just like anything else in the park, it's all about timing. I've seen that 30-45 minute Fast Lane line at Maverick, but do I stand in it? No. I'll leave and check back a couple of hours later, maybe during a peak meal time like lunch or dinner, and when the line is 10 minutes or less, I'll grab 2-3 rides on it. My other thought is that even if the Fast Lane line is 30-45 minutes, you have to ask yourself "How long is the normal line?" And if the normal line is 90 to 120 minutes, isn't it still better to wait half that time? So it's all how you look at it, plan your day, and choose when to ride. For the record, I've NEVER stood in a Fast Lane line longer than ten minutes over probably 20-30 uses of the system at Cedar Point during various times of the year. Excellent, thanks for the post! This is why TPR is awesome, as someone who's bad at/doesn't like trip planning yall make it tons easier. See, this is good to know, I've never used CP FL so I would've been very surprised to see 45 min waits, and I may have gotten flustered and just waited in it as yeah its better than 2 hours without thinking to try later. That's good to know in your many times of using it the "wait and come back" method has always worked! I will be sure to do this. Esp in late August, I'd reckon it should be no issue. -

Hmmmm, sounds like even more reason to not bother with the early access and just use FP+ to spam it. Esp since it seems like 2 is all ya can really hope for in the early access, not sure its worth all the extra for the hotel and if it was to be taken off early entry damn I'd be salty. Anyway people can input if they think this is dumb (esp since I've always been a 2 or at least 1.5 days at CP guy) but I really am just planning on using fast lane to marathon whatever I want. Get a cheap hotel since I wont need early entry (right?) with fast lane. Heading to Kennywood on Sat and home on Sunday (undecided if Ill bother with Waldameer I found RF2 pretty crap, not sure if I'll give it another try). Is weird the park seems to be down on attendance and it cant be fully explained by SV absorbing them. Maybe travel is down, I mean its summer, the economy is up but ya never know. I also dont know how many Canadians go to CP, I reckon alot, it'd not shock me if people were turned off to/purposely not traveling to the US due to politics and trade crap and etc Way to be pro business -
