I agree, but to each their own. I understand where he's coming from. Mr. Freeze was dead to me for a while when they converted the trains to launch facing backward. Which I just realized ironically now has the same feature I love about Vertical Velocity. -

Six Flags doesn't understand why KI just doesn't leave Vortex SBNO for a few years. -

I've never 'seen' it down for maintenance, which doesn't mean much. We never pay attention to it. Vertical Velocity's straight rear spike is so much more interesting to me. I get a better perspective of just watching the ground shoot away from me before free falling back toward it. I do miss the holding brake. It was sinister and scared the F*** out of riders. Screams of terror vs. screams of joy added a different kind of character to it. Wicked Twister leaving wouldn't be a bad thing as long as they utilize the beach. My guess is that the area would be used less for rides and more for an area to relax and enjoy the beach view. I could see some version of a patio restaurant/bar there. The idea is laughable with the long standing rumor of WT getting removed, anyway. My thoughts will probably be wasted and worthless, as per usual. Consistency is comforting. -

I'm sure worlds of fun guests wouldn't mind it. Straighten that rear spike out and I'd even be tempted to take a trip back to KC. -

KI will have to open the museum in 2021 so it won't take the attention away from the opening of Orion... The kids are going to love it. Except for Ninja. That ffcking pile of suck will probably be there until the end of time, knowing SFSTL. -

We were close to the park today so we stopped by for our first visit of the season. I don't really have much to report. We got to the park around 4. I drank a shock top and we walked around. The decorations looked decent and the park was clean. The only thing I rode was Screamin' Eagle. I'm really not a seat nerd, but I've found my sweet spot with car 3 row 1 for maximum smoothness on just about every wooden roller coaster I've been on that isn't a GCI or RMC. The ride was as fun as ever. It's a classic. Supergirl looks great. I thought about riding The Boss and Batman, but the lines were long for both. I also saw that Boomerang valleyed before the second spike. Woops. When we left the front gate was asses to elbows. From the size of the crowd it looked like it was going to take people 10-20 minutes just to get in. We were in and out in about an hour and a half. I wish we could have stayed longer, but the crowds were really thickening and we had a lot of things to do. I did notice that the roof at Screamin' Eagle's entrance/exit has been replaced. It looks much nicer. -

Our Batman rides better than any of the other Batman clones I've been on. Our wooden coasters are pretty good. I'll take them over the torture machines at Holiday World any day of the week. We might brave the crowds tomorrow afternoon so I can ride the Screamin' Eagle this year. I still haven't been. I hope the afternoon isn't too bad. -

The responses to this closure are hilarious. I thought the Orion complaints were plenty entertaining, but between the two of them I feel like we've struck gold. -

I told Emily that Vortex was going to be removed. She rolled her eyes and said she knows. I asked Hell the hell she knew, since she usually isn't into this hobby like I am. And she told me, "You made me join all of your lame roller coaster groups on Facebook." I have no clue how this hasn't been mentioned prior to this post. Now, it's only a matter of time before someone says they should build a ground up RMC and call it Son of Beast, while they share some of their thoughts on exactly what elements it should have and how it should interact with the surrounding area. -

And to think I was almost sold on going to HalloWeekends. I take it there were no "horrified" parents, either? Looks like you had a great time. I'm glad you didn't go when the place was absolutely mobbed. -

When I went in late May a couple years ago for Coaster Campout I had no complaints. FL+ made just about everything walk-on. Some vendors were closed, most of which were between Maverick and Millennium Force. We had no problems getting food or beer and I don't remember any rides being closed. Then again, the Saturday we went there were scattered showers throughout the day. The day was overcast, chilly enough to buy a hooded sweatshirt, and drizzle off and on. I'm sure that affected crowds. -

I have no doubt that those comments are out there, but I'm sure they said the same with with Leviathan and that seems to easily be the crowd favorite. -

Chris definitely brought up a good point. Get to the parking gate at least a half hour before Scarowinds starts or you will be waiting for a while. Security at the park entrance was pretty backed up, too. -

It's not just Legend's jack hammering that makes me hate it. The laterals are brutal, too. The first couple of trips I took Raven was pretty smooth and really fun without being too intense. On my last two trips it wasn't crazy rough, but too uncomfortable to enjoy. -

It's funny that you compared it to the mechanical bull, because in my last post in another thread I said that I probably wouldn't like bull riding much. On another note, with gold passes being cheap and parks seeming more crowded than I can remember, it seems like the golden days of consistent walk-on FL+ days might be less likely to happen than they used to be. Even KI had FL+ 10-20 minute lines on my last trip and I always used to boast about everything being consistently less than 5 minutes, despite whether or not it was on a weekend or Haunt. -

^Sounds like it's time to take them to the one RMC that I actually really liked. If you live in Southern Illinois Outlaw Run is relatively close and calling your name. I'm betting you've been on it, but your friends might be easily sold. Outlaw Run hits the break run just in time to catch your breath. Steele Vengeance keeps going at that point and tries to separate my upper torso from my hips. Eh. Thrashing isn't my thing and I can tell I wouldn't enjoy bull riding. One and done. Just like I just said in the HW thread, I'd be back to SDC if I could enjoy a beer while I take in the atmosphere. Two dry parks within four hours of me sucks. Aside from Haunts, I don't like to throw too many back. But damn. I'm a working professional and I like to enjoy a couple cold ones on getaways. Throw me a bone SDC & HW! -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
prozach626 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think they're all uncomfortable. I actually hate Legend. Like hate. Raven jack hammered the shit out of me on my last two visits. Voyage is one of those pain vs. please scenarios, but after a ride or two I'm tapped out. If they sold beer I'd probably be all about Voyage. This park is only three hours away from me. I never go. I pass by several times a year for KI or other parks. For me, Holiday World is where I can ride a great ride like Thunderbird. When I'm not doing that I can get the shit kicked out of me by all three of their wooden coasters or wait shirtless in hour long lines for water coasters when I'm not wading elbow to elbow in the wave pool. It would be more of a fun place to grab a couple beers, but again... Everyone raves about the Thanksgiving dinner. No doubt, it's pretty good. But to call it delicious like so many do is a little overstated. The soft drinks are wasted on me, because one I treat myself to my one park Coke/Pepsi I'm all about water. Holiday World is a nice little park and it's exceptionally clean and friendly. People love it, but it's not my cup of tea. Sometimes I think about going, but it's just not worth my time since KK is an hour away and KI is about two hours away. I wished I liked it more. I'm willing to bet my opinion will change drastically when and if we have a kid. Honorable mention to Gobbler's Getaway as being awesome. -

That topic always makes me wonder how many people who go to parks are actually willing to drive more than a few hours, if that, to another park. And I'm not talking about Disney/Orlando, which IMO doesn't qualify since it's more of a destination in itself. I'm talking about people who visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Carowinds, Six Flags St. Louis, Holiday World, etc. who are interested in visiting a place like Cedar Point, and then those who follow though. Then, you have to take into account those who can even think to afford to take that kind of trip. I know two other people who are working professionals with decent salaries who have visited Cedar Point out of all of the people I know. But then again, they'll probably never go again. That, and they didn't go because of any new attraction, they just went based on the reputation Cedar Point has had since I was a teenager. So, I'm curious about the actual number of X in 1000 who actually went with the majority of their purpose to ride Steele Vengeance. After that, I'd like to know how many people went for a refurbished ride like Steele Vengeance vs. a new ground-up roller coaster like Valravn or Gatekeeper, both of which also had unique features. -

That will probably be one of the more busy days. We've been to KI Haunt twice in the last three years. I can only comment on our experiences. The longest line we've waited in was last year for Diamondback and that was probably 15-20 minutes, if that. Beast and Banshee were 5-10 minutes. Everything else took us practically right into the station. Once the haunt starts the lines for the rides get shorter. Then, during the last few hours the haunted house lines die down. I suggest at least trying one or two.
