We went to our first Fright Fest in 10-15 years, in 2019. We only stayed for long enough for me (pregnant AF wife) to have a couple beers and walk around, but I thought it was really well done. I liked the scare zones. The haunted saloon bar was nice. I wish they served drinks in there year round.

If we're going to argue about minimum wage, can we at least throw in some COVID safety arguments, too? I long for all of this. If only we could find a way to add abortion and gun right debates into the mix. We can make it relevant, because one correlates to the amount of potential customers, and related to the christianity undertones throughout the park, and the other is related to park safety. Who's up for some international tariff arguments, since it may be related to the cost of building materials?

Do they? Every park was struggling a month ago. How are they faring now?

Is everyone just assuming it was the seat belts, or did I miss something? (genuine question) Why are we all acting like it's difficult to pull a seatbelt tab back? Panic or no panic. The primary cause of injury and death was the damn boat tipping over, not the seatbelts. I'm not trying to be insensitive.

What restrictions are in place?

It's strange such a reliable park had issues when it really mattered. Aside from the drop tower (like all drop towers), Wind Seeker (like all Wind Seekers), and of course Invertigo... I've never seen any of the other coasters or major rides go down.

I'm not buying that it was just the seatbelt that kept the person from surviving.

Was this just the standard seatbelt where you lift the tab to unfasten? Not all employees are trained first responders. It's probably a standing order to not go into the water in this type of emergency.

Saint Louis Zoo has a great train. It gets you pretty close to the animal enclosures and there are several long tunnels.

How is that far fetched at all???? It seems naive to believe being short staffed in maintenance would never lead to shortcuts being taken or things accidentally overlooked, whether on an individual or management level. This happens throughout daily life, and it's not done on purpose. Airplanes fall from the sky, cars crash, and buildings collapse, often times because there wasn't enough time or resources to catch errors or do things right. If I give you two widgets a day to inspect, test, and clear for quality, and it takes 3 hours to inspect each widget thoroughly, the job will probably be done right, in your 8 hour day. I had 10 people working in my widget factory, and now I only have 5. Now, you have to inspect four widgets a day. You might be able to get them all inspected on your checklist, but you may not have had time to be as thorough. But, you completed the checklist, so #safe. I have no idea if this was applicable to this accident.

Welcome to the new normal. Summer work nights have consisted of babysitting hundreds of people blocking the streets in our downtown bar district. Our goal is to prevent shootings. 8 guns seized. This past weekend we dodged fireworks shot/thrown at us, while listening to the gunshots a block away trying to add more intimidation. We were called everything in the book, while trying to work a traffic crash with injuries, which required cops from three surrounding agencies to keep the crowd from mobbing in after they tried to catch one of the cars on fire. There are some neighborhoods where it's unsafe for us to go in with less than 5-6 people, bare minimum. Keep in mind, the city in which I work has a population of only about 30k people. This is the worst I've ever seen in the general public, period. It's no wonder it translates into private businesses. The new Illinois anti-police legislation that went into effect July 1st doesn't help. There's your Tuesday pick-me-up.

It wouldn't be shocking to find out maintenance is short staffed, like everything else.

Leading up to COVID closures, we'd started leaving our phones in the car during some park visits, or portions of visits. Since I have a tendency to post a few drunken snaps, it completely took that off of my mind. It's also nicer to have less to carry around. I wanted to leave the phone in the car for the last half of our KI visit, but Emily wanted me to keep it on me in case something happened to our daughter, who was staying with family. Not having your phone as a distraction helps you focus on experiencing the now, instead of capturing it on video.

When I see the first post on this page is from October, 2020, it makes me smile knowing Worlds of Fun is not alone. Within the first 30 seconds of the video!
