Are We A Dying Breed?
KoasterDan replied to nhman93's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the problem with a lot of sites is the off-season. Most sites are park-specific, or maybe even region-specific. With TPR, or DISBoards, there are constantly people going to parks in California, Florida, etc. These thinks keep interest in the community. On sites that are based on northern parks, some people stop going onto the site during the off-season, then they forget to ever come back. It's tough, but like people are saying, Twitter is taking a lot of people. It's very convenient for updates. -
This has kind of been bugging me for a few years now. Why is Six Flags so lazy with their coaster construction? Maybe lazy isn't the right wording, but they move at a much slower pace than say, Cedar Point is with Gatekeeper. I see tons of construction on coasters, and other rides from other chains and companies, but Six Flags always seems to be way behind. For example, Full Throttle, has just some footers if I recall correctly. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Why all the screaming, Robb?
KoasterDan replied to douggw's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because we all get a little cranky in the off-season. -

In my opinion, everyone needs to relax a little bit. This whole thread is being blown out of proportion. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but this is my 2 cents... -If you would prefer not to have your kids hear profanity, mute the video, or watch a different YouTube POV. -Robb has the right to run the site however he feels, he foots the bills. -Some of you are being a little over dramatic here though. Just because some people find the noises annoying, doesn't make them "douche bags". Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Like someone earlier mentioned, we're talking about roller coasters! The only debates in the roller coaster world that should be this crazy are B&M vs Intamin, and Millennium Force vs Bizarro. -
What coaster would you rebuild?
KoasterDan replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would go back in time and ride Bizarro at SFNE, when it was still Superman. I had a lot of memories on that ride when it was Superman, and I've dreamed of being able to go on it in it's original form again. I'd also like to go back in time to ride Batman and Robin: The Chiller. I grew up reading all about that ride, and wanting to go to Great Adventure, but I never visited while it was there. -
Just did some catching up with this thread. I'm a huge Simpsons buff, so this sounds amazing. The only problem is that I won't be of legal drinking age the next time I go to Florida. Sob, I always wanted to know what Duff tasted like. And on the Potter topic, I'm going to vote Premier. It seems like a logical choice, based off their Mummy rides, and the track does look similar to the picture posted earlier of Superman: Ultimate Flight. This will be interesting. The future is looking very bright for Universal right now!

The Off-Season Survival Thread
KoasterDan replied to ernierocker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I started my membership at the gym a few days ago. It should keep me entertained for the off-season. I also have Black Ops II to look forward to, and my basketball season starts around Christmas time until the end of February. Sadly, I won't be at SFNE's opening day in 2013. I'm going to Florida for baseball during Spring Vacation, so no parks until after that. -
The coupon books have a variety of deals. There are a lot of 'Bring a Friend Free' or 'Bring a Friend For $19.99'. They also have coupons for games, like buy one get one, or $1 off. Then there's the food ones. They have $5 off of family meal deals, buy one get one 50% off meal baskets, $1 off popcorn, etc. I think the only coupon you can use at other parks besides your home park is the 'Bring a Friend to Any Six Flags Park For $X.XX'. I'm not sure how much that one costs, or if they even had it this year. Hope this was kind of helpful. And just as a basic FYI that I'm sure most of you know. If you buy 4 or more, and get them processed by the end of the 2012 season, you get a free upgrade to the Gold Pass. And they also normally have Season Pass Processing Days the week before the park opens. If you can't get it processed this season, get it done then. This past April Break the processing lines were reaching 1 1/2 hrs, and that's with both processing locations open (Hall of Justice and Regular Processing Building).

Damn, he was on a roll! -- James Based off this past year, I stand by that statement.

Normally Bizarro has good dispatches, but for some reason, they only feel the need to put 2 attendants on the ride once they go back to weekend operations. 4 attendants is the way to go for Bizarro, and if they don't have 4 for October, the line will be outrageous. As for the re-ride thing, it sucks that they don't allow it, but they don't mind if you take the flash pass route when there's no line. I've only gotten re-rides on Bizarro once in my life, and that was this spring break because the day was a washout, there was about 5 people on each train, and they were closing in a half hour. Painful to ride in the rain, but fun none the less.

Millennium Force Beast Leviathan Voyage Ravine Flyer II Expedition G-Force I305 Goliath (SFOG) Phoenix Skyrush I probably forgot some, but those were just off the top of my head.

I've been riding Cyclone for 6 years now, and yes, 6 years won't prove a huge difference, but it's age is starting to show. I almost always ride in the front car of Cyclone, and it is a decently smooth coaster for something built in the early 80's. On occasion I will ride in the back, which isn't nearly as smooth, but that's what the back of a wooden coaster is. Today I rode in the middle, for maybe the 4th time in my life, and it was ridiculously rough. The train vibrated the whole time we were on the topper track section, and the ride was insanely bumpy. I rode in the front today too, and it was a completely different experience. Much more enjoyable ride. Don't shoot me when I say this, but maybe topper track isn't the answer. Unless a different type of train would be better for the topper track. I don't know much when it comes to that category, but that's just my thought.

^Is a coaster fan since 1999. vLoves to stare at turkeys.

Everyone that I know in the Coaster Enthusiast community wants the RMC treatment for Cyclone, but I agree it's tough to say if it's worth it. I think they could pull it off, but they also might be better off tearing it down one day, and putting a GCI in it's place. Plus, they might have extra space left over for future flats.

Favorite Coaster Sounds
KoasterDan replied to TheAmazingCP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love the sound of the break run on a Vekoma SLC. It sounds so cool. Best part of the ride. -
Well, supposedly the Star Flyer was never intended for 2013, but the park thought that it would take a long time to get all of the approvals needed for a Star Flyer that will end up being around 400ft. The zoning boards, and all the other boards approved quicker than they planned, which caught the park off guard (especially since the town is so strict). Not once in the plans did it say the Star Flyer was coming in 2013, but everyone assumed it. Anyway, back to the 2013 announcement. Six Flags New England posted this onto the SFNE Online facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/#!/sfneonline
