Top 3 Roller Coasters From Your Birth Year
cwgator replied to YOLO's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow! I didn't find any of these on searching, but it looks like my Space Mountain, White Lightnin' and King Kobra would be it. Year of the loops.... maybe this is the reason I prefer coasters with loads of inversions You can easily search for roller coasters and search for most statistics (by year, park, height, length, speed, inversions, etc) http://rcdb.com/ More specifically for those opened in 1977: http://rcdb.com/r.htm?nm=na&op=1977&order=1&ot=2 -

Looks like they didn't get nearly the amount of snow forecasted. Looks like about .5" perhaps in the grass...if that. While I'm excited to see the finishing of construction, I was a bit bit disappointed to wake up and not see the area covered in snow. Oh well...Construction On! -

Well it looks like there will be no testing today. Snow accumulation in the area with more on the way tomorrow night. My best guess would be Friday for the first test run...weather permitting. -

If the weather is nice it may be busier than previous years if Fury is indeed open...and I see no reason it shouldn't. Spring break for CMS starts the day before. Historically it's not too bad though. I doubt there will be lines of an hour + or anything, but most likely busier than opening weekend. -

Opening Sunday you most likely wouldn't need any type of Fast Lane (or any Sunday for that matter). Sunday's are usually very manageable with minimal wait times (except maybe Nighthawk). If you go that day I would wait until you get to the park to see if it's busy enough. I know Fury is new and will bring more people to the park, but it's not going to bring 4 hour waits like other well known parks. I'm sure they will have one of the biggest opening weekends ever.....depending on the weather. Carowinds suffers from the spring rains curse as it historically rains almost every opening day (even the first day it opened in 1973). Now if you do decide to go April 17th you may need it since that's spring break for some schools there and will definitely be busier than opening weekend. I'm going the second week of June when Charlotte schools will still be in session. I'll have multiple days to go but if it's anything like last time I went up in June (it was 103 degrees the day I went) I may get a FP one day even if it's not terribly busy so I don't blame you. -

They tried a Christmas event (Winterfest) in 2005 and while it looked pretty decent (from what I've found online), it just didn't draw the crowds like other parks. Mind you that was still under Paramount. I can see in the next 5 years trying a new event. The weather there can be an issue as it's pretty must hit or miss with the flip flop fluctuations in temps/weather there that time of year. You have to remember when it's below 60 degrees for people in the south it's frigid....lol Another factor is current employee demographics. Most are high school/college age as are many seasonal parks. With all the great additions since CF took over and with what's to come they will be able to pull it off better. Once they can make the park more of a resort destination the sooner it may come. The seasonal parks who do have success with these events usually already have a lot more outside influence which helps drive attendance at them. Dollywood for example has the benefit of that whole area being a tourist destination. SFOG also has more of an advantage with that. How many people say "OOOOOOOh...I want to vacation in Charlotte"? I'm not raggin' on the city; I lived my first 28 years there. It's something that hopefully will eventually happen at the park...which I'd love to see and hopefully attend if I'm visiting family around that time. Also since I'm from there I can verikfy that 99.9% of the people who live in that area do not celebrate Christmas. -

They most likely zoomed in on the station so we could see how that construction is coming along. They will need to finish the pedestrian bridge at the entrance before any testing occurs. -

They won't need the larger cranes to remove the brace. There are still cranes in the park (including the one in the pic) and others being used to put up slingshot. I'm sure they know what they are doing. -

There won't be any bins for this in the station. There will be lockers outside of the queue entrance. -

They will probably remove the brace when they remove the construction trailer below it once they are finished. I can see the headlines now: "Construction workers injured due to fallen support structure on trailer" -

Also if you notice on the webcam, the construction trailer is sitting right under the lift. I would think they would remove the brace once construction is finished and the trailer moved first. -

Nope. Both of you must be Platinum season pass holders in order to get in early. They might do it on the bring-your-friend discount days, but normally only the pass holder is allowed early entry. All persons must have a season pass (Silver, Gold or Platinum). -

Here are the ones I currently have. I also sometimes use my park/coaster key chains, but not the past few years. Dollywood: Islands Of Adventure/Universal Studios Florida: Seaword Orlando: Silver Springs: Gatorland: Walt Disney World (bought at Animal Kingdom Park): I regret that I don't have any from the other parks I've been too, but I plan on doing so next time I return. -

Parents of disabled upset with SeaWorld Here's my take on this: OK...now don't get me wrong. I feel for those who are disabled and understand somewhat what they and their families go through. I know it's not as easy as it is for everyone else. However it seems quite ironic some of these folks feel they aren't being treated fairly. This was the only park in the chain (and only park I ever heard of) that had this offer and now that they are doing away with it they are quite upset. I guess I would be a little upset too if I had gotten in free for who knows how long and now have to pay, but I'd get over it. Well guess what? You still get 50% off daily admission and if you plan to go multiple times a fun card for a regular day's admission. I don't think that's unreasonable. Also they offer other types of assistance to accommodate and I'm sure you get to skip the regular line and get special seating at shows. Plus you get to enjoy the park like everyone else...even if you are having to care for the person more so than others. I will finish with this...disabled people want to be treated like everyone else right? So why complain about still having to pay half price when the rest of us still pay full price? I say be thankful they don't treat you like everyone else and make you pay 100%.

Unnecessary Queuing Lines
cwgator replied to palmerleeberry's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dueling Dragons (what it will always be called by me): I thought I would never make it to the station the first time Revenge Of The Mummy: I used the full queue once...single rider other times Kraken: My favorite coaster needs a shortcut. I've been there when the park was VERY busy and I've never seen the line reach that first set of switchbacks at the entrance (even with a 90 min wait). Hurler @ Carowinds used to have a really long one until they built the now gokarts (removed now for Fury 325) -
Your longest hiatus from riding a coaster?
cwgator replied to JDo217's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In my adult life it was 5 years (2002-2007). I think there was a longer period when I was a child as the first coaster I rode scared me to death (Scooby Doo @ Carowinds...lol), but I was only 5. It was 8-10 years before I would ride another one....which was Carolina Goldrusher and loved it. Then I quickly progressed to bigger and better coasters from there on and am no longer scared of any coaster. Some of those Chinese knockoff coasters however look a bit questionable...
