I'm starting to worry about being let down by this game, only because the teasers are ramping my expectations waaaay up. If it actually looks that good in action...wow. Just wow. I wonder if we'll be able to customize the lighting on our own flat rides to look that good? Looks like this game might be giving even my PC a pretty good workout.

Fun Spot America Discussion Thread
Rai Fox replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That skycoaster looks fantastic. I loved Fun Spot when I was there a few years ago, it's incredibly exciting to see what it's turning into now. I'm more interested in getting back there now than I am in Disney or Universal! -
Rye Playland Discussion Thread
Rai Fox replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Trying to look at that video but it's apparently set to private. And thanks for all the info so far, DizzyDeeds. I'm from New England but I've not yet had a chance to get to Rye Playland; I had to cancel both attempts to get there so far. Looks like I'd better make sure I get there this summer, just in case... -
What is your favorite launch coaster?
Rai Fox replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I still love Flight of Fear at KD, especially since they replaced the horribly painful OTSRs with lap bars. It's not the best launch ever, but it's a great coaster, so twisted and disorienting in the dark. -

As if I need more reasons to look forward to getting back to Knoebels. Oh well...172 days and counting. >.> -
TPR and Theme Park Artwork

Oh, I like that, that could be a beautiful theme for a flying coaster if the park wanted to put the work into it. -
An "easy way to create flat rides" just isn't remotely practical, unless you want it to be very limited. There's no way to do it without creating 3d objects, textures, and animations. That's not something any editor is going to let you do easily; no matter how it's implemented in game, you're going to need 3d modeling skills, artistic skills, and a whole lot of technical knowledge. Some of you are expecting the game devs to work magic, coming up with some way to just project ideas for rides into the game; it's not going to happen like that. This falls right into the same category as everyone asking for magical amazing graphics that run on a cheap computer without "lagging." It'd be a lovely idea but reality has other things in mind.

Okay, this is as much a pet peeve as a suggestion for the game, so maybe I shouldn't put it here, but I am anyway. I'm seeing a lot of comments both on "RCT 3 was too cartoony and didn't look good enough" and "RCT 3 lagged too much!" RCT, I'll admit, lagged on a fairly decent PC when it came out, but you can build an absolutely massive park with no issues on a halfway decent PC these days. The problem is, people are expecting to run it on a bargain basement dell they picked up at best buy for $400. You can not expect a game to have modern features and graphics and run it on that kind of PC. Cheap computers do not have a gaming quality graphics card, they often have the minimum amount of memory you can run an operating system on...you're going to get lag if you try to play games on them, if you can play them at all. Just because you can play bejewled on it, or even WoW with its graphics from 2004, doesn't mean it's in any way meant to handle real 3d games. If you want a game you can play on your best buy black friday special PC, you're going to get RCT 2 again, or at best simplistic graphics like RCT3. You want a game that looks realistic, that makes you feel like you're walking around a real amusement park, then you're going to have to bite the bullet and pay for a gaming quality computer. There's no having it both ways; no game developer can magically make a game that looks amazing and "doesn't lag" on an office PC.

I waited nearly 3 hours for Big Bad Wolf the first time I ever got to ride it (almost 20 years ago now...aaaand I feel old...) We probably wouldn't have waited if we knew it would be that long, since back then I was not a particularly patient sort (what eleven year old is?), but the wait started at about an hour and a half and just kept getting longer because of mechanical issues they were having with the coaster. Ended up being worth it though...and I'd wait the five hours if it would mean I could get on that ride again. Other than that, though, I can't think of many. A few of my favorites only if it was my last chance to ride them, but otherwise, there's just too much else to do at any park in five hours. Okay...maybe Boulder Dash after dark. That would be worth five hours any time.

Some good tips here, most of which I'd agree with (particularly the Sam Adams >.>), but most have been missing one very important deal. If you're going to be in the Pennsylvania area, you can not miss Knoebels. It's one of the most unique, beautiful parks in the world, quite possibly the best run park anywhere, and while it doesn't have a lot of coasters, the ones it has are spectacular. Phoenix is easily one of the best wooden coasters worldwide, despite its modest size, and Twister isn't that far behind when it's running well (which it certainly was last year when I got on it). If you're going to be there in in 2014, there's even a pretty good chance of Flying Turns being open >.> Plus they have one of the best collections of classic and modern flats in the US, unbeatable food at very fair prices...there's really nothing Knoebels doesn't do right, unless you're only looking for steel coasters. Personally, I'd make it the number one must-do out of all of the parks listed so far.

I'd love to be able to "experience" the park like we were actually there. As in, not just ride an individual ride, or float around on a free cam, but have a realistic presence there; be able to walk around the park, climb up the stairs into the station and see what it really looks like from the ground, get into the coaster, ride it, get off, walk to a flat ride and get on it. If this were possible multiplayer; to be able to run around the park with someone else, play the carnival games with them, ride something with them, (multiplayer bumper cars? Yes please.), etc, then it could be amazing. Also, realistic physics; the coaster need to feel "right." That's going to be one of the most important things of all. The more custom content that can be created, the more flexible and accessible the game is in that regard, the better; the community has proved to be amazingly creative. Look what's been done with RCT3, a game that was never really meant to accept custom content at all. If people can create any type of object, ride, etc, then there will be an endless amount of content to keep the game fresh for a very long time.

This was a really good year for me; I got in my usual trips to Lake Compounce, Knoebels, and Kennywood, all of which were great; Boulder Dash at LC was running amazing all year. We got rained on all day at Knoebels, which admittedly made the rest of my group a bit miserable, but I loved; I love how parks look in the rain, everything still ran all day, and there were no lines at all. Kenny had Black Widow running just before I got there, which may be my favorite flat ride now. I got back to Dorney Park for the first time in a decade to find it -far- better than I remembered, and had an awesome day there. Also made it back to Canobie Lake for the first time in a few years, and I finally managed to get to Canada's Wonderland. Leviathan, Behemoth, and Vortex <3 Or, I could go all the way back to 1990, the year started me on my amusement park obsession (yep...I feel old now.) Eight years old...every year until then we'd gone to our local park, Rocky Point Park in Warwick, RI, for an employee day with the company my father worked at. That year we almost ended up not going, thanks to horrible weather, but at the last minute we gave it a try anyway. What we got was...much like Knoebels this year...no crowds, a park almost to ourselves, with everything running anyway, everything beautiful, all the ride lights shimming in the rain...spent all day there despite the weather and had one of the best days of my childhood. And then they gave us tickets to come back next week anyway thanks to the weather for a nice bonus. That day was sort of the point of no return for my amusement park obsession, and I've loved rainy days ever since too. I'm hoping in the next couple years I can beat out both of them easily by going along on a TPR trip, though...

You do in China! I've seen cats at Knott's and at SFNE! Disneyland has quite a few feral cats, too--and Kings Dominion has its share of skunks, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg of deer. Kings Dominion has fearless squirrels that think they're pets as well. Last time I was there, eating lunch out by Hurler, I dropped a french fry on my shoe, and a squirrel rushes out from under a bush and over to me to start eating it. It didn't even steal it to eat it anywhere else, it just sat next to my shoe and ate off it like its own little dinner table. I even reached down toward it like I was going to touch it (wasn't actually going to, I'd rather not get bitten by wild animals) to see how it would react and it just looked up at my hand like a dog expecting petting. Was cute enough to make me tempted to try, but caution got the better of me.

How well do you handle hangtime?
Rai Fox replied to Vid_w's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I never rode a Ring Of Fire but loved the HUSS Ranger or Weber Traumboot. Still remember one carnival operator who had the Ranger upside down, switched off all lights on the ride and then said to "collect all the money thats falling out". Sadly these rides are mostly gone today and modern inversion rides either don't stop upside down anymore or have OTSRs - what a fun-killer! Sounds like a ride op I remember from years ago, probably 2000 ish, from SFGAdv...back when I still loved that park, and it still had flat rides. I got in a ride on their Top Spin with my father and brother; best top spin ride I've ever had. The ride op actually had it in manual mode (how often do you see -that- at a SF park) and really had fun with it. It took a few moments to get the ride started since one person had trouble fitting into their restraints; the ride op explained it away, "Sorry for the delay, I had to wait for the nurse to get here. They won't let me start the ride without her. Not really fair, they don't do that with the other ride operators...I wonder why..." then just went nuts with the ride. I can't say I remember how many flips we got in on that thing, but I know I've never come close since, and the entire time the ride op was just going on and on, teasing riders, then went into a story about...I don't remember what now, some silly fictional charity idea he had, at which point he asked if anyone wanted to make a donation to it, lifted the ride up to top point upside down, and started to shake it back and forth; accompanied, of course, by a rain of change to the platform. One of the most memorable rides I've ever had on a flat. The guy was creative, too; we stuck around and watched a couple other rides after, and he wasn't just repeating lines or giving the same ride every time, he seemed to be actually just making it up as he went every time. Really need more ride ops like that guy. Sadly, the next time I made it to SFGAdv, the ride was running a weak pro-grammed run, and the last two times, it hasn't been running at all. -

I have a hard time getting my mind to stop going over that wonderful little scene of just what happens if this restraint fails... I'm much happier if there's a secondary restraint, even just a seatbelt. That said, I'm a lot less nervous about it than I used to be; my love for Power Surge at Knoebels sorta forced me to get used to it. I could ride that flat all day, and you do spend a lot of time on that one hanging off your harness. -

Yep! ^^ I know Kacey has it on her FA page, and it's on mine, but I think Kacey has a DA page as well, so...could have been either! -

I didn't paint it, it was just done for me, by Kacey Miyagami. It's painted in acrylics though; it looks far more amazing in reality than the scan of it does; the real one is far bigger and the textures and details are so much more impressive.
