All American Melodrama Theater - Long Beach, CA
ebl replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Agreed. I did see the old melodrama at Knott's once, and it was really a lot of fun. Out in Moorpark, they used to have the Magnificent Moorpark Melodrama perform similar shows in an old theater. Absolutely hilarious. It's great to see this make a comeback, but I also agree that it should be somewhere within the park---preferably in the Bird Cage Theater. This is the type of unique entertainment that would help Knott's stand out from the rest---if even a little bit. Eric -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
ebl replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
On one of my recent visits, I passed some people and overheard one say something about "a new Psyclone." Psyclone wasn't even the same color---it appeared to have had some sort of redwood stain on it. Terminator will most likely be left in its current state of finish and allowed to age over time. Believe me, a "Psyclone" this will not be. Eric -

The way the park map depicts Manta, it looks like there's a few dead ends in the layout... Eric -

"$180.25 for a damn changing station?!? Hmmm...I always figured it would be cheaper." (spacemtfan) Maybe that company also makes those $500 toilet seats for the military... For whatever reason, it seems funny how people can enter the Terminator area without passing directly under the sign. Seems like there would have been some sort of barrier to funnel people under it to "begin their experience" as it were. But things are looking great here. I'm actually looking forward to riding Terminator. For whatever reason, the last few new coasters I rode just didn't build the anticipation for me that this one does. Eric -
"Cool beans." (onewheeled999) I don't eat 'em. Cold, that is. Nope, I just don't eat 'em...I...just don't... Eric

If you buy Coke at a Latino grocery store (here in SoCal at least), it's usually bottled in Mexico where cane sugar is still used. I don't know if that's true with any Pepsi products they may sell. Also, Coke produces a special "Kosher Coke" during Jewish holy days (Passover for sure, but I don't know about other holidays) that is made with cane sugar because high fructose corn syrup isn't kosher. They use yellow caps to distinguish their "normal" Coke from the kosher version. Again, I don't know if Pepsi does that. But I drink the diet version anyway, so it doesn't matter to me; however, those who do drink the regular version might look into it. Eric

My only concern is that Terminator is a good ride, and I think it will be. Even without the soundtrack. Eric -
We pay $2400 a year for insurance, but it's for three cars and three drivers. Eric

^^ While I don't know our rep personally, I have met him and he seems like a nice guy. Remember, too, that even ACE reps have lives and sometimes can't make an event. I did get an e-mail from him last year regarding the behavior of Solace attendees. (I know I posted this previously, but it's worth a repost.) While Pony Express was under construction, Knott's had a very important person from Zamperla come out to speak to the group during lunch, and many of the people just couldn't stop talking long enough to listen to him. Pretty rude. Had I been him, I'd have just left the area, thanked Knott's for inviting me, and headed for the airport. ^ Truth. When you host an event, be it a coaster event, a wedding, etc., you do have to at least try and meet/greet your guests. Every TPR event I've been to (including the now two WCBs), Robb and/or Chris Godsey have made it a point to say hi to me. Eric

^ Kinda thought so. But it's time for an anti-virus and AdAware scan anyway, so I'll take care of that today. Eric EDIT: Did a scan with Spybot Search and Destroy, GameVance...GONE!

On a slightly different note, I got an e-mail from our ACE rep, and ACE won't be participating in the Media Day festivities. Apparently, the park didn't need their participation. Eric -
Is it just my computer, or are others finding selected words in theirs (or others') posts in green, and when the cursor is put over the word(s), a GameVance ad appears? Eric

The trains look different than what I expected, but seem to fit the theme. I'm still not crazy about a wooden coaster themed like this, but if it's a good ride---which it appears to be---that's what counts. Eric -

Difference Between a Merry-Go-Round and a Carousel?
ebl replied to Teacups Make Me Sick's topic in Ask Alvey
I've always thought the two terms were interchangeable, like the difference between a car and an automobile. "Carousel" comes across as a bit more classy as terms go. Walt Disney, for instance, called his a "Carrousel' (with an extra "r" in the spelling for some reason), I believe, to distinguish it from the ones found at the carnivals that he did not want Disneyland to be patterned after. This was a very interesting question, and hopefully we'll get a definitive answer to it. Eric -
I would have guessed it's where they keep the miscreants they pick up for cutting in line or other bad behavior... Eric

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

It's hard to believe that there are only about 18 days till Terminator opens to the public. I'm guessing that those mysterious trains will be winding their way around the track pretty soon. Not being an expert, I don't have a clue as to how many cycles are required for testing, or how many hours the ride has to operate. Photos of trains being tested should appear soon... Eric
