Knott's could and hopefully will win the lawsuit from the injury in 2014 as they had taken what appear to be reasonable known measures to protect the riders. Unfortunately, someone found out that the restraints could be rider defeated so the company can become negligent on future injuries if they don't take measures to protect against future escapes and injuries. This is more of a common law issue than specific California legal issues. Wouldn't that be on manufacturer and not the park? And what about the fact that out of the hundreds of wild mouse coasters there has never been another incident like this anywhere, that we know of. At what point is the responsibility solely put on the idiot public? No one can plan for and foresee every possible whacky scenario. Also wouldn't it better to block the opening rather than restrain the legs of riders and thereby hindering larger taller people from riding? Put little doors or something on the cars. In product liability cases where they claim the original design was defective, the park and manufacturer could both be held liable so they both have an interest in fixing the problem. It is kind of like when a lot of parks replaced the cotter pins on scrambler rides with foot pedal releases that were out of the reach of the guests. Those cotter pins worked for decades but one person opens the restraint before the ride stops and ruins it for everyone else.

I stopped in on Monday, May 22nd, hoping to get a few rides in before the busy summer season but I guess the guests have already arrived. At 1 pm, Ghostrider was at 130 minutes wait with two trains operating and two stories of the station full of people. The rest of the coaster were 40 - 50 minutes with exception of Monte around 20 minutes. I didn't take any photos because not much has happened since my last set. There is a little more wood on the BBQ place but that is about it.

I have been several days when it has been open and ridden it at least 20 times. I have only heard one person complain to the ride operators that the cycle is too short and only flips twice but other people could be thinking it. Everyone else seems happy but I doubt the average customer has compared this version to any other Top Scan video on Youtube and seen we got the shortest ride program version yet. Even the two other Cedar Fair parks in North America have longer ride cycles than Sol Spin.

Tuesday, May 9th, pretty much 5-minute wait or less for everything. Sol Spin was working during my visit. BBQ Not much left Not much left Boomerang track and train cars are sitting in field next to burned fire station. They have started repainting the walls of the splashdown pool. Light rain today so no work.

On May 8th, I stopped by Castle Park on the way home to take some photos. The arcade and mini golf were open but the ride park was closed. The gate to the ride park was open so I was able to walk through and take a few photos. For $10 to $20 admission price, the park is a decent value but I heard operations are not great or efficient. It seemed like about half the fountains were working in the golf area. Some course felt was torn at a couple of seams but nothing that would affect your game that much. I couldn't tell what rides work as the ride park was closed but I heard the carnival spinning coaster doesn't work. The arcade looks like it has most of the same games that were there when I last visited 10 years ago and they were not new at that time. There is a small children's' splash areas. Golf course Some fountains were working Nice detail Center golf course fountain Fountain Golf course Golf course Golf course Broken fountain Same designer as log and mine train rides at Knott's Must be dry season at the waterfall and pond Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Some rides from ride park Log ride Children's slash area

It might be a good week to ride Ghost Rider. I went to the park around lunch today and both trains were running and loading with approx one train wait for the ride. They were getting trains out as soon as the next returned to the station. That is pretty fast for this ride. BBQ is now going up quickly while Boomerang fades away. Boomie was so young when he died but that is what happens when you lead a rough life. BBQ So long!

I just saw on ABC 7 news that the old fire department building that partially burned will be demolished and the land will convert to Knott's use. The fire department will rebuild at some other location on La Palma Ave. There was no mention of what Knott's would use the site for but I am guessing to expand employee parking lot or store ride construction parts. Fire station indicated with yellow circle

I went to the park today. The new water park slides look pretty much complete. Sol Spin was being worked on by mechanics during the couple of hours that I was there but I don't know if it opened later. The new BBQ restaurant near Sky Tower is going vertical. Boomerang is coming down. The Splashdown pool is being stripped. Not much else to report except that doesn't Boysenberry punch look refreshing? New slides Future BBQ Future BBQ Future BBQ I miss looking at you; but not riding you. Refreshing Boysenberry punch, buy one now! Still breaking in

They would not need to remove the cobra roll to remove the train cars and it doesn't look missing at this time in the webcam. I am not sure why they would remove part of the cobra roll until the entire coaster came down. I believe it is just a small section of the flat track directly adjacent to the station and before the hill starts that they remove to pull the cars off.

The ride closed three days ago and we're already complaining the park is taking too long to disassemble it? Not what I meant. I'm interested in the engineering of it. I'm not complaining. I'm fascinated. I didn't know there was so much involved. I thought undo some bolts. Rig it up. Load it on the truck. And moving on. But apparently no. There's a lot more to it. It looks like Knott's has just used their own maintenance staff so far to remove the one piece of the track adjacent to the station so that they can remove the train. There is no transfer track so they have to take out the small section of track adjacent to the station, decouple train in the station, and lift each car off the open track with a small crane. It appears half of the station roof fabric and train are missing at this point. I am guessing they will switch to subcontracted construction company to move the actual coaster structure. Train appears to be missing- Website cam capture

Wait... what? Surfside Gliders and Pacific Scrambler are NOT being removed, the Sol Spin cycle is intentional, and Mondial did not screw up. The ride has been open for less than a week, my goodness. I didn't say they were being removed but they could be closed during construction if they build a dive coaster or anything else that requires construction access where the access bridge is currently located. They have closed that bridge before. If Mondial did plan to build a 36 rider Top Scan model over their regular 30 rider model; they didn't bother to update their website to market or sell it to anyone else. This appears to be an experimental version that hopefully will work. The rest of the ride appears similar so maybe they could just change the arms to 5 seats if it doesn't end up working for some reason.

The webcam near live Boomerang stopped working. It is weird that just that one cam would go down at the time Boomerang starts to come down. I wonder if the short program on Sol Spin is intentional. If they build something big that uses the old splashdown pool; the bridge to Pacific Spin and Surfside Gliders could be blocked and they will need all of the ride capacity that they can get if those rides go down along with Wipeout, Boomerang and Sky Cabin. It's either that or Mondial could have screwed up with Windseeker and Sol Spin.

I rode Sol Spin 10 times on Monday and it broke down on ride # 5 for approx 10 minutes. Maintenance had to come over the clear the ride and get us down. The people next to me in line said it broke down 4 times while they were watching it on Sunday. I am guessing you are right about the "break in" period. I think I only got to flip a total of 20 times between the 10 rides. The cycle definitely could be a little longer or faster but not until it stops breaking down. PS - Xcelerator was closed on Monday and doesn't appear to be operating in the webcam today.

It got busy Friday later on. I left at 2:30 and everything had a line, including every flat ride. Sol Spin has some new fencing up and they were working on it. The new shin guards on Coast Rider are pretty tight but didn't seem as bad as SFMM Full Throttle. Since they didn't repair the lining in the old splashdown pool this season; I wonder if coaster footings will end up in the pool? Sol Spin getting close; I hope Sol Spin getting close; I hope Closed Friday, not good Not much going on here with new restaurant New shin bars on Coast Rider, are slightly more comfortable than Full Throttle New shin bars on Coast Rider, are slightly more comfortable than Full Throttle Never repaired lining in splashdown pool Could we see coaster footing in here?
