  1. I would love another full length coaster of some sort but with my luck they will probably remove Monte and replacing it with a Sky Scream typed launched coaster in the existing station. It might be cool but Knott's has enough low capacity rides. I did stop by the park on Tuesday. There was a section of Ghostrider track missing before the lift. The left wheel's track and the layers of boards underneath had been stripped back. It also looked like there were several maintenance people below the track working on the supports. I didn't ask anyone when it would re-open. The Calico Railroad was closed and the section of railroad track near the water tower had been removed and they were rebuilding the rail bed. The log ride was closed but the rapids are back. I saw several people in completely soaked jeans getting off the rapids. Poor life decisions Nothing really new at Wipeout, Sky Tower or Sol Spin sites. future home of Sol Spin Wipeout & Skytower Rapids back Zen spot Train track removed Train track removed Train track removed by station and water tower Left side of track removed Ghostrider before lift Left side of track removed Ghostrider before lift Left side of track removed Ghostrider before lift
  2. Knott's is having an auction of some older items from their warehouses. Even if you can't afford the stuff, OC Register has a slideshow of some of the items. I need some bears in my foyer. www.ocregister.com/articles/knott-740497-park-auction.html
  3. After watching the video, I am a little jelly. The ride is psycho though with crazy torque on those gears; no wonder it broke.
  4. Does it magically not break down anymore since it moved there? Is is still Tampico Tumbler?
  5. Thank you for your 8-hour ride aboard the Sky Cabin today and it is time for our thrilling finale. Each rider will get to repel down the side of the tower with their very own member of the local fire department. How if that folks? Give the men in uniform a hand! Now we know you have many choices in amusement parks and we thank you for continuing to choose Knott's as your entertainment provider and we do hope that you have a pleasant day. Anyway, GMA states that they tried using a fire truck and a ladder. You can see it in the first photo below and the ladder did not reach the cabin. They then had to climb through small access hole in base of tower. Then climb up the middle of the tower and repel everyone individually to the ground. 6. I hate having to put the cup in a cubby hole to ride a coaster and then hoping someone else doesn't grab or steal your cup; and it slows down ride loading as it is another thing to put away before riding. Extra trash is bad but Knott's and Disney do pretty good jobs of keeping sweepers out so the paths don't look dirty. I would much rather grab a 20 ounce soda and finish it between rides than carry around the same cup all day. Or have to wash and remember to keep the cup in my car for the next visit and hope it doesn't melt in California sun.
  7. It does make sense (in a nonsensical regulatory kind of way), but I also saw Sierra Sidewinder doing the same a few weeks ago — one empty train being cycled and one being filled. I figured it might have something to do with distribution of wear, but I couldn't justify why that might be the case. The staffing rationale you note seems consistent with how the rides are run. However, Xcelerator always seems to have at least 6 ops on duty, whether the ride is running both trains or not. Could it be the double restraint checks they do on that one? Xcelerator and Silver Bullet always seem to have full staff of restraint checkers and probably from double checking. I did the early entry this summer and went to Silver Bullet and was first to the turnstile where it was locked. Three restraint checkers stood around for 10 minutes without doing anything. When I asked why they opened late; he said fourth restraint checker was late and the state wouldn't let guests past the turnstiles into the station until all four were on the platform ready to work. I know at Disneyland when I worked on the trains as a conductor that Cal-OSHA required us to stand on the side of the trains where we could see the guests but when the train was empty on deadhead; I could sit on the train or ride up with the engineers in the cab. Sometimes these are state, park management or insurer requirements but usually safety related.
  8. Unfortunately, it is a Cal-OSHA rule. More operators are needed in case of an emergency to evacuate people from restraints. They can have the second train the on the track but loading it would cause too many people to be on the attraction per number of operators to safely evacuate everyone in case of fire of smoke. I would believe that if SFMM didn't operate with as little staff as possible on all their rides that have multiple trains. Not only that, running the train empty is still putting cycles on it---might as well just take it off if staffing is going to be a prolonged issue. I know during haunt that they had to move the day people to run the coaster at night and were short handed. They didn't want to add train at end of the day so they just left it on the track. Maybe the number of trains and operators has to do with the fact that this is a wood structure and could burn and needs evacuation quicker? it was just what the ride operator told me when I asked why they weren't loading it. He said the state required four restraint checkers and they were short because some of the day people called in sick or were moved to haunt shift so they had to leave the train empty.

  10. Find out why it was only running one train last Friday? As I was leaving the park last Friday there were alot of people about to enter. I guess it was some radio show special event. I saw a power 106 truck by the hotel. Maybe that's why they were only running one train? If two trains are on Ghostrider's track but they are only loading one train; it is because they are short on restraint checkers. They are required to have four restraint checkers to run two trains. That happened a lot during Halloween Haunt when they were short day workers and one train was dispatched empty during the day. Last Friday, there was only one train on the track so I am guessing the other was broken for a couple of days and not short workers. They tend to keep two trains on this whenever possible.
  11. Ghostrider has both trains running today with no wait unless you want front or back. Rest of park is dead so far.
  12. I stopped by Knott's from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Friday. First stop was Ghostrider and once I saw the line was out of the station, with both upstairs and downstairs queue utilized and one train operation; I decided to pass. The app showed 100 minutes wait on a weekday at noon with school in session. This ride does not have good capacity. I then walked by Rapids to see it drained. Took a couple of rides on Xcelerator and Silver Bullet. Both had two trains running and short lines except for the front row. I got a couple of rides on La Revolution and took another walk around the park again and left. Nothing new at Wipeout or old Windseeker sight. Hi Knotts Line out the door of station, 1 train operation Wait time around noon 12/09/16 10/27/16 Before 12/09/16 No Water 10/27/16 Before 12/09/16 - Much prettier with water Xcelerator two trains running - about one train wait for the back Silver Bullet - 2 trains no wait
  13. I usually just go in the park on the weekends to walk around and ride the coasters during the week. With that, the Knott's app usually shows 1 hr 30 min to 2 hours for Ghostrider and approx 30 - 60 min for Xcelerator, Silver Bullet and most of the other popular coasters. Ghostrider, even with two trains, still only pulls about 400 to 500 people per hour so the line doesn't move fast. Why is the capacity so low? It seems like it would be almost double that. Double post for some reason.

The dispatch time per train even with two trains running is every 3 to 4 minutes which gives you approx 15 to 20 dispatches per hour times the average riders per train to get capacity. I am guessing about 20 people per train with single riders and occasional missed rows. With one train running it is more like 6 to 7 minutes per dispatch and good luck getting 10 trains out per hour. The ride is long, the break run is long and slow, and they don't dispatch with two trains until the other train returns to the brake run.

  16. The trains at Disneyland were fun. You actually got to ride your ride all day with a nice breeze but did not have to memorize a speech like on the Jungle Cruise. Older flat rides can be okay but aren't fun if you have no shade or if people get sick and you have to clean it up.
  17. During that day, waits in the park should be 0 - 10 minutes for pretty much everything besides Ghostrider; which will likely be 15 - 45 min long depending if they have both trains running.
  18. I haven't been on that ship but all I remember from my other two Carnival cruises was alcohol was and probably still is expensive. It was a really bad place to be an alcoholic. https://cruiseline.com/ship/carnival-inspiration 229 Tips for Carnival Inspiration https://cruiseline.com/ship/carnival-inspiration/tips See, these are the kind of tips I need because I can drink most people under a rock. Even more deadly, I don't get hangovers. This is all bad. EDIT: I found the Enhanced Cheers drink program. I will have to crunch the numbers and see if it's worth it. EDIT 2: The Enhanced Cheers drink program looks like it could be worth it. $49.95 per person, per day when booked prior to your trip ($5 bucks more if you purchase it on board). It only allows 15 alcoholic drinks per day/24 hours. While I can drink more than that, I think this might be up my alley. Lets say on average, I have 4 Grey Goose martini's a day at $12 a drink + 2 glasses of wine with dinner at $8 a pop, each night + a couple of night-cap cocktails, let's say 3. That's a total of 9 drinks for one day, totaling $100 in booze a day - not including tips! I think this might be the way to go. I don't know if you get premium alcohol as they didn't have that when I cruised; but the drinks are weak so it may be worth it. Everything is measured exactly by gun or by laying shot glass level on a bar mat. There are no straight pours into a glass that I remember. You also can't really make your own drinks in the room so I would have probably used almost everyone one of those drinks from sun up to sundown. The review on this site seams a little more detailed about what to expect as far as the cruise. www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=10

Other tips: phone and internet services is spotty or expensive at best; and TV entertainment is limited. Bring a kindle, Ipod, tablet, book, or something with media stored on it as you will not be able to stream. You will also want something else to do that doesn't cost extra money on the ship. https://cruiseline.com/ship/carnival-inspiration 229 Tips for Carnival Inspiration https://cruiseline.com/ship/carnival-inspiration/tips
  20. I would say the more experience people have with riding different coaster the more they would tend to rank them against each other. I prefer Silver Bullet's layout to Batman slightly; but I didn't ever ride the little boat or care much for the pond that Silver Bullet replaced; so I don't have any hurt feelings where others do. I don't believe anyone ever mentions what Batman replaced in a bad way or that it clashes with surrounding areas or attractions. If anything, Batman is themed perfectly as a rundown coaster in a rundown crime ridden city As far a forceless; I tend to like smoother coasters as I get older. In my teens and twenties; being faster and higher was more important than comfort or scenery. I think X-2 and other coasters like that would rank higher back when I could take the abuse. Some people like it though.
  21. I visited on November 15th for a couple of hours. Ghostrider is back to one train operation with half-hour wait around 11 AM. I hope that is just temporary or during the week. The rest of attractions had no wait. Not much at former Windseeker sight yet Wipeout construction site The area is quite torn up Same area - different angle Monte says Hi Christmas decorations are up Christmas decorations are up Christmas decorations are up Christmas decorations are up Christmas decorations are up
  22. According to their website; they only have a Transportable version that seats 30. It doesn't look too bad though. mondialrides.com/rides
  23. I had a problem on their tunnel of love ride. Put on my 3D glasses all prepared to make out and got attacked by underwater sea creatures. My cousin still won't touch me. BTW... where's Wipeout? Removed from park and website but still on the park map.
  24. I went on Thursday, October 27th from 11 am - 2:30pm. There were two trains on GhostRider but they can only load one-train because they don't have enough rider operators scheduled to load the second train. This created my only line in the park of approx 12 to 18 minutes, 2 to 3 train wait. I guess Ghost Rider needs 2 people checking belts for 1 train operation but 4 people checking to load the second train. Hopefully, there is some two train weekday operation after Halloween. The Rapids Ride is running like normal and getting people wet. I asked one of the ride operators if he knew anything about Monte closing. He said he didn't think so as he thought it was one of the rides that Cedar Fair agreed not to touch or remove as a condition of purchasing the park. Anyway, watch me say that and have the ride disappear before people have a chance to say goodbye. I wish SFMM was open during the week year during the off season. They need some unbusy days like Knott's. Ready for launch They were going backward so quickly Weekday wait for Xcelerator Second train looking good so the first must need maintenance Horsey drinking fountain All horses get a turn Rapids time Ramp shot
  25. I wonder how much of this is home park burn out? SFMM & CP are good parks but I consider Cedar Point better because I have only been there twice and are not burned out on any rides. I remember the entire park as exciting and new. The So Cal parks can get boring to me now as I have had the same passes for the past 20 years and ridden most of the rides to death. I still enjoy them but few of the rides are that exciting or fresh anymore.
