bert425 replied to spike's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
ok. .where is this , that is standing in for "FrightLand" ? is that Kennywood where they filmed this? as as fan of Slasher/Horror films and Amusment parks (and music, since one of the stars is Ogre from Skinny Puppy). . I'll definitely see it/rent it/buy it ! [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
Need help with another Theme Park Show Idea!
bert425 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The first one that pops in my mind is a focus on Fiesta Texas, since that particular location is incredibly unique. I'd love to hear specifics of how they chose, what went where, within the quarry, how they decided what rides would interact with the quarry walls (and if the cost is more or less to customize something like Superman so it interacts with the quarry). a specific focus on the RMC treatment of Rattler, how they chose what to keep from the original layout (the Tunnel!) and what to take out. Fiesta bills itself as a showpark, so how does it compare attendance wise with the other parks in the Six Flags chain that DON'T focus mainly on shows? how about staffing? Is it harder to staff a park when you have such a reliance on shows? that kind of stuff. -
I hope they bury him in a public place so I can go schedule a trip to go dance on his grave.

we've never been, and looking at the layout of the park, that's why I planned (tentatively) for 2 days. we have no desire to do the waterpark, so won't be messing with that at all, but do remember that we like riding "everything" not just the big coasters. So we're not on a credit hunt for this trip -- I expect we'll ride just as many teacups, tilt-a-whirl's, paratroopers, etc, as we do coasters so that's why trying to make sure we have enough time at each stop. knowing this, is 2 days for Dorney still too long? (and really only a day + if we wanted to go back, as I put in a free afternoon for sightseeing in Allentown) (as for Great Adventure. . hmmmmm. . .how far a drive is that from the Penn. parks?). -

^^ no opinions on above itinerary? -
yeah. .agreed. although for me, at Studios, we only really like Rock & Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror (which are right next to each other). but if you've never been, you very likely want to do Star Tours, and the stunt show too (and eat lunch at the SciFi drive in). go to Epcot for the late afternoon, then eat dinner in the World Showcase -- all these years later, my favorite is STILL "Marakesh" in Morroco, or the Steakhouse in Canada -- both of which would put you with great views of Illuminations when done. but you very, VERY likely will need reservations (tho we've never had much issue getting last minute seating for just two of us). Still . .make reservations to be sure!

here's a good one in support of Breen's cartoon: Reader says he was fed baloney Steve Breen is a San Diego treasure. His Orca cartoon (March 9) — depicting animalists feeding the public a baloney sausage — rings true. When I was a middle-schooler, our biology teacher frequently ranted against SeaWorld, even claiming it cut out all of its dolphins’ teeth to prevent litigation in case of a bite. As a teenager, I believed her. Imagine my surprise when I ventured to SeaWorld for the first time and saw all dolphins with mouths of teeth. Steve Schoellerman San Diego

not that I saw, but then again, I saw it in our Austin, Texas paper. (but I'm sure if you google Steve Breen and San Diego Tribune, there's a bunch of feedback from folks who were "offended" edit: ah, here's one from their Opinion page on 3/11 in response to the cartoon: Retiring orcas is progressive thinking What a disappointment to see Steve Breen’s editorial cartoon (March 9) of the public being fed baloney by animal rights extremists. The cartoon was in regards to Assemblyman Richard Bloom’s proposed legislation to prohibit orcas from being held in small concrete tanks to perform tricks for our entertainment. The world and its thinking progresses. Women can now vote; blacks aren’t held as slaves; gays have the right to marry; and animals were not put on Earth to entertain us. I respect SeaWorld for the rescues it does. But it has turned into an attraction center with thrill rides. It will not lose any money should orcas retire. San Diego won’t lose the 4,000 summer jobs. Tourists will still come. And progressive thinking will continue to improve the lives of people and animals. Joelle Thornton Vista

agreed. .NOTHING shocking, and obviously written by someone who is either a) very young, b) not well versed in Music History, or c) both. it completely lost me at #4, when it refers to "Girls just wanna have fun" is "a cover of some dude" and as "written by a guy named Robert Hazard" who is well known as one of the earliest MTV artists, whose videos were in HEAVY rotation, and who had a pretty decent hit with this song, after Lauper covered "Girls": [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]

ok. . starting to put plans into place. It's looking like we are going to move OUT of May . . due to medical appointments in the last week in May, but this might work in our favor, as once the seasons start, we likely have more options at the parks for weekday attendance. so maybe 2nd week in June now. Here's what I'm thinking. . opinion please? Fly into Philadelphia and rent car. 1st stop: Dorney Park (find place to stay local). 2 days, maybe visit Allentown on late 2nd day? 2nd stop: Knoebels (find place to stay night before (after leaving Dorney/Allentown?), and spend full day at Knobel's 3rd stop: Hershey Park. 2 days (full day at least for park + prior evening for park, next day either park, or just chocolate tour stuff). 4th stop: Kennywood. Stay in Pittsburgh, get room, go to Kennywood for at least 1 full day, maybe go back next day. if we have time, maybe drive to Idlewild in there somewhere. . . . but that's iffy, as we might make detour to DC possibly too. Fly out of Pittsburgh. so that would mean we are talking about an 8 day trip including parks, driving, etc. what do you think? bad plan? something I should do different? please do let me know. . wanna make sure I'm not missing something (ie: not giving enough time for a park, or just plain making a bad decision in order that I have mapped out for hitting these particular parks). Thanks! (and yeah, I'm going to go back thru and re-read suggestions thus far. . but as we are actually getting closer to planning, it's becoming more "real"). -
I'm hoping Hedwig blows up, since NPH is a big draw. Huge fan of the original show, the creator, AND the film version. so I hope this plays long enough I can see it on Broadway. (Previews start in ~2 weeks). the Broadway Musical's site: http://www.hedwigbroadway.com/

What's your favorite Theme Park Souvenir?
bert425 replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
just so y'all know. . . my Birthday is coming up next month, and I told my Partner, I REALLY want some "stealth" condoms from Thorpe Park. (hehe..I know, it's weird, but it's our thing. . . one oddball gift that's "fandom" related. I started the "tradition" a few years ago when I hunted down some Star Wars boxers for him. They have Darth Vader on the butt and say, "Welcome to the Dark Side"). -

^^ that sounds like a Saturday night at the Levi/Leather bar here! -
it VERY likely will take best Director. (Bullock will lost to Cate Blanchette from "Blue Jasmine" in Actress. . but it has a very good shot for Best Director) I really should have joined an Oscar pool. . . as I got all the major awards correct (including best song!). . . Oh, I wanted U2 to win, but had a feeling it would be the one from Frozen, as the urge to give the writer the EGOT was gonna win him the honor (and it did). Let it Go didn't win just to give the writer the EGOT, it won because it is catchy, popular, and is really the only memorable song of the bunch. Plus, the wickedly talented Adele Nazim really hit it out of the park at the Oscars . we'll agree to disagree. (tho, I admit that I giggled hysterically at Ellen trying to make up for Travolta's horrible gaffe) while I don't find it a "bad" song (unlike at least one of the nominees -- not counting the one made ineligible after the fact), the strongest song was U2's. make no mistake, "Let it Go" won to give the guy an EGOT. I'm fine with that -- heck, I predicted it -- but that's why it won. edit to add regarding performances tonight: Idina looked fantastic, but she sounded a bit strained (so did Bette Midler for that matter). I think the orchestra might have been a bit too loud. that might be why the U2 performance just blew me away (no real use of the Orchestra). . .
