Quick Trip report: Fiesta Texas, 12/26/17
bert425 replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks! not sure I'll make it back before end of Season on 1/7, but this Year, Fiesta Texas opens for the season (weekends only - other than spring break) on Feb 24th, then Fri-Sat-Sun starts in mid March, before going back to daily in late May. so a really extended season, if not 100% "year round" so hopefully will get up there to see coaster in late Feb, and will report again! -

that's very cool. . never realized you were a Cop. takes a certain kind of person to do that. . thank you for serving the community!

do they still have 4? I know one of the Belugas died since I was last there (in 2016), but I think they still have 4 whale sharks in that tank. I'll likely go back in 2019, since skipping Dragon*con this year to do another trip instead.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
bert425 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm just shocked there hasn't been a guess they are building a tunnel under the water for CP's record breaking Mega-Giga-Coaster, that will have it's turn-around on the property CP bought. but maybe those that would think that are still on vacation with their parents -
Rose Marie passed yesterday . . surprised that didn't make this thread she had the longest running career in showbiz - from age 4 to 94 here's a wonderful Obituary from her friend Mark Evanier (a well known writer of comics, and animated shows): https://www.newsfromme.com/2017/12/28/rose-marie-r-p/

Favorite Dark Ride
bert425 replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd say Curse of DarkCastle at BGW. tho close, CLOSE behind it? Peter Pan's Journey (MagicKingdom). . . just the way those ride vehicles suspend from the ceiling. . gets me every time & Knobel's Haunted House -- spectacular old school ride (runners up are the usual suspects from Disney too: Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Space Mountain. .etc) -
that's great! you were the only one riding??

Happy New Year back to you, Bill (and to all). actually doing the survey now, they make a point of saying that it's anonymous, so yeah, I won't link back to my report, but I WILL give them the same answers I noted here: Iron Rattler dispatches need some help, everyone else in the park was fantastic -

you gotta remember, it's Texas. It was in the 70's last week, "winter" for us tends to be temps in the 50's. So of course, the coasters/rides aren't prepared for anything really below that weather. (the snowfall we got 2 1/2 weeks ago was a rare occurance). -

heh. . got an email from Six Flags thanking me for attending on Tuesday, and asking to take the survey. I'll fill it out, but wonder if I should just link them to this report -
yeah, the Georgia Aquarium is awesome. . tho I die a bit inside every time I see that "ATT presents: Dolphin coast" Did you get a chance to eat there? the food court, tho expensive, is pretty good. and I love the educational shows they put on there (tho the actual dolphin show, and the 4D film sections are just tourist traps, I think). My favorite part is the giant wall into the whale shark aquarium. (surprised to not see a pic of you/Michael in front of it.. . ?). glad you had a good time tho, and can't wait to see the rest of the trip!

hey! I'm six years older than you. . that ain't an excuse (now. . back to reading your actual trip report. . LOL)

Quick Trip report: Fiesta Texas, 12/26/17

I'm wondering if they are actually going to put the "lake" under it, as they showed in the animation, or will just let grass grow in. I think it would look amazing with water under it, so hopefully they go with that design. (and the Skyscreamer, which is right up against the quarry wall, feels so much higher, as you lift up over the wall, and above the nesting hawks that live there) -

you mean "Gully Washer" if 1st time since 2004, you'll have LOTS of new stuff: Batman, Skyscreamer, Goliath, the new Boardwalk rides (Fireball, Spinsanity, Hurricane Force 5), and probably even Pandemonium. . or was that one there already as Tony Hawk? No, I meant Thunder Rapids, the water coaster. Tony Hawk was not there yet. This was way back before I was an enthusiast, and I was just going to San Antonio with some friends from college. Because I was in college at the time, god this was so long ago now. One of my friends was from Harlingen, in northern Mexico as he called it, so he had season passes and got us in on a BAFF day. I remember being a bit reluctant, since I had been to Six Flags St. Louis and thought Fiesta Texas would just be the same thing. He assured me it wasn't, so I went along, and I'm so glad I did! It's a fantastic park. I loved Poltergeist and Road Runner Express. Superman was my first experience with a floorless, and it totally freaked me out. Still the best one I've ever been on. I also had my first experience with a Boomerang, and it put me off them immediately. Rattler was awful, and when it was RMCed I immediately made plans to come back...that got delayed.... So I'm loving your reports from there recently. Good memories with people I haven't seen since we graduated...over a decade ago now. ahhhh. . . totally missed that, as it's part of the Water Park, so not open still this season, and I think of that as a waterpark ride (as in, you're in your swimsuit, in that area, and you only ride it in that area). there's a TON of new stuff in the waterpark. . if the last time you were there was 2004? really, the only thing you will recognize is the wave pool. Everything else has changed. (did you even get to see the "racers" that they installed from WaterWorld in Houston? those came hung around for years, and are now gone from the waterpark so it will be almost all new to you. note: Fiesta will *not* let you walk around in a swimsuit. So if you go to Waterpark, you'll have to change before going back into the rest of the park. (it's been a long time since we've been to waterpark, but what we always did was get a full day FFBFwMaG *in* the Waterpark Section, and just use that for basecamp to change in and out of shorts when we wanted to ride things). -
This is also the park that added a Batman the Ride clone despite SeaWorld having one 15 minutes down the road. I don't think adding a second Justice League four hours away is an issue if that's the route they go. other than them being parks in different company's chains, to be fair: 1) they ride very differently 2) Fiesta Texas did not have a suspended coaster, so it's unique to the park, regardless if there's one close by in another park 3) if you use this comparison, why not knock Fiesta having a waterpark in it, when SW does as well? I will go on record and predict that if Scooby is going away (and it might not be. . they might just be redoing the ride system and making it trackless, right?. . .get it off those rails). . . but if Scooby Doo IS leaving? what goes *in that space* will not be Justice League. Fiesta Texas is VERY immersive in their theming (just look at Crackaxle Canyon, Kidzopolis, or the Sagerfest Hall area). They went to a LOT of trouble on that boardwalk theme. they are NOT gonna plop in a superhero ride that doesn't fit the theme of the area. (not that Scooby "fits the theme". .but that was there before they made the huge effort to reinvigorate the boardwalk area. Hell, the building that Scooby is in used to be a roller-rink. . wouldn't surprise me at all if they convert that back, and then, as I was thiking, convert Rockville to Gotham (easy enough to overlay), and put JL in the theater there). but yeah.. . they will not put JL in the current Scooby location. that's my take on it

not knowledgeable enough about SFoT operations to say, but at Fiesta Texas yesterday, it was in the 40's, and Superman (B&M Floorless), and Poltergiest (Premier LIM launch) never opened. And when it dropped down closer to 40, they closed Goliath (B&M inverted) and Batman (S&S FreeSpin). however, the Arrow minetrain, RMC Iron Rattler, and Vekoma Boomerang stayed open. (not sure about the spinning coaster, we were on the other side of the park from it). so that might help?

I thought the same thing! An interesting looking coaster for sure. If it rides half as cool as it looks it’ll be a heck of a ride. LOL. you are too funny, Liz. It's a floorless (feet dangle after floor drops out) coaster. . but Superman at Fiesta is at least in part, a custom build, and I can say without really knowing, because the way it interacts with the walls of the quarry: the 1st drop, and the turnaround after the loop, both go up over the quarry wall, and then dive back into the quarry.. so they are incorporating things that just can't be at other parks. so at least SOME of the ride is a custom build. here's TPR's POV, you can see what I mean: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -

I didn't remember you saying that in your trip report, but now that you say it, I DO recall.. so yeah, 3 weeks later, same dispatch issues. luckily not much of a line, so not too much of an effect, and as noted, in scheme of things not that big a deal. but was noticeable on IR only. -

hmm. .considering the location on the boardwalk, it doesn't make sense for JL (tho I COULD see them converting Rockville High, into Hall of Justice, and putting it there, since it's right next to Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman.. . so all that would need a retheme is Hustler (into something Harley Quinn) and Scream (into Scarecrow's terror tower) and you have a Gotham City layover. just thinking outloud, don't know anything. I'm not sure I believe Scooby is going anywhere tho. . I mean, we just rode it yesterday, and pretty much ALL the targets and gags are working well (why upkeep a ride that's going away?). . and it seems to be a popular ride on the boardwalk. guess we'll see.
