Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally, I think keeping to the 'times' is a great plan overall: In my experiences with WDW and DL over the past 15 years, the lines do have some problems with control with the FastPass lines- Indy Jones at DL was for us as long a wait as standby due to passhoarding people. In the long run the system is designed to move more people more efficiently, and having 500 people show up at a ride at a time is NOT the way to do so. While nowadays lines aren't as much of an issue with me (A few of you know why...) I still think the system should be enforced to prevent line issues- and keep the people moving. -
Randal: As usual, your rides are splendid examples of what can be done with creativity, originality and just plain ingenious design. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos when they're up... (BTW: I found the tape of Coaster Con 1992... and of your demo of how you built your models then... be afraid, be very afraid.)

OK: I'm going with Hong Kong myself based upon these clues: 1.) The various buildings are all indicators of the types of people who live there: Hong Kong is a world city 2.) Size DOES matter there: Hong Kong has the most amount of skyscrapers on earth. Also, Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Intl. is one of the largest airports on earth... for a man-made Island 3.) Happy- and smiling faces are always a sign of Disney- and there is a rather large Disneyland there... 4.) With fares so low, they'd say Phuket, they'll go: There are great discount air flights to there. 5.) It is a Delta Departure City for returning to the states 6.) Ghost Blasters could be a reference to one of the attractions at HK Disneyland 7.) The guidebooks... there's two for China in there- one including Hong Kong 8.) The ticket counter looks like an Orient Thai counter- and that is a primary city for Orient Thai airlines. However, that could also be a 'dupe' counter as well.

Chuck- I'm stealing that .gif for the Games Forum... And congratulations on getting me to eject coke out my nose during lunch.... As for SFA: People need to give the park a break. I think we are about to see SFInc. start to pay some more attention to the park, as moving Wolfpocalypse is a start. Removing a ride with a horrible failure rate is a good clue they know what they are doing- and that the park needs some love. It isn't as if SF has simply ignored the place- but rather, trying to figure out the best solution to the problem in the first place.

I've been doing some 'homework' on Knotts as of late (planning for WCB etc.) and had the time to take a look at the overall scope of Knott's land, layout and space available. It's not pretty- at all, as the park tends to be 'lop-sided' ride wise- with seven of the nine coasters on one side of the park- and four of them intertwined like a bad knot. Realistically, the 'right side' of the park as facing the main gate is full, full and full, and I can only count Grona Lund or Blackpool's having more compact a layout for rides in the world. It is truly a marvel of engineering that they could put so much punch into so small a space. That having been said, let's look at the future place for expansion realistically: With the only real open room left over Bigfoot (With some exceptions- there is Pony Distress above it in parts now- to expand will either mean going over the top of existing structures, or around the sides of the park, along the neighbourhoods surrounding on all sides. It is NOT a pretty picture for that. If they were to do some space-conservation, they would be able to maximize space, and be able to add new attractions of size without too much effort. So now I've taken off the 'budget' light, and going full out for the future here, this is a totally 'blue sky' idea- and one that I think would be practical, but not necessarily price-wise. First, the parking lots to the south side of the existing park boundaries would have to be 'decked out': A five story parking deck facility, similar to what Disney has, would allow for more parking, as well as for greater space to expand. Using the top level of the decks for additional park space is also an idea- look at the Adventuredome at Circus Circus there- it's built on top of the parking decks- which would give much needed space for general park attractions. Additional flats, more shops, stores and shows, and greater use of walking space for crowds. Now that we have the parking decks, moving the service buildings that ring the south end of the park is the next objective. Since the parking lots are now 'self contained' in the deck structure, we can use the remaining lots for employee parking- but also for moving these structures/eyesores outside of the parks' general boundaries. Wow! We've just added nearly 40 acres of land doing those steps alone- and can now move onto other projects such as larger scale coasters, etc. There's plenty of space at Knotts left... but it will require some serious relocation of stuff to use it right. There is a dire need for more 'natural' elements there, and moving some things out and around is critical in order to 'green' the park nicely and to de-crowd the existing park. At least that's if I ran Knotts/Cedar Fair...

They have been- but now that IRM has been called in, we can hope a few of those classic beauties find new homes around the USA before too long. As much as an Arrow Shuttle Loop is considered dated/obsolete, it is still a visually attractive ride to me. Not to mention the Calypso, a very rare Schwarzkopf flat, and a Bayern Kurve I- one of the very few of those still around. (BTW, I've been pestering Knoebels' about both of those rides... they'd look so good there!)

News update: IRM, the firm that resells rides, has posted all the attractions on the Fun Spot park are now up for sale. These include both the 'large' coasters (A Pinfari Zyklon from 1975) and the Arrow Shuttle Loop coaster from 1977. (According to IRM, the elevator IS included with the ride.) A link to the Facebook page with the new rides for sale- and pictures. Now if there are any inventive TPR members with 30 acres of land, you can get a pre-built package for your park! R.D.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

The cable hasn't gone in yet- as the station hardware is still waiting to be added. Also, the cable will double-back down the lifthill due to the position of the lift vs. Comet/the creek. -
Oops. Jetstar Asia (Valuair) Airbus 320... Let's narrow this down a bit further by registration of the planes... 9V is the registration for Singapore (9V-XXX) JetStar Asia/Valuair serves the following cities from Singapore: Route Map However, some of those longer flights might be off the map- the 320's can't fly that far... I'm going with Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Siem Reap.

Sadly, though Greezed Lightnin' is in bad shape all over. Even when KK was running it, it had the lowest dispatch rate of the remaining shuttle loops, and even with the spare 'organs' from her twin sister, it is in desperate need for a massive overhaul from end to end. I'm never one to say we should lose a Schwarzkopf anything, but these weight drop models do require a ton of attention to keep going mechanically. And, since a flywheel conversion isn't available on this model, you're looking at a pretty hefty price tag to fully overhaul this one from the ground up. Even with HW giving the park (And the rides...) some love, there are some things that realistically we should be ready for. Losing this treasure of a ride is one of them, as I think it's days as an operating ride are sadly over. Without another 'organ donor' available for parts, it's going to be tough to get this one up and running again. R.D. Praise be to Anton, Amen.

Looking good for a theme area... but you might want to take a look at your shuttle loop... I made (a long while back) a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop that is to 'scale' for the ride itself. Of all the Schwarzkopf coasters, it's a fast easy fix- and by far one that you really don't have to 'realism' up to make it fit right. Through no fault of RCT II, and by complete chance, the Schwarzkopf shuttle loop actually looks better without adding supports to it, as the natural build of the ride works perfectly as how the game builds it. Here's a link to the 'scaled' Shuttle Loop: American Revolution- scaled Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop R.D. GFMT

Awesome, awesome AWESOME PTR Tim... It's a shame that Mexico has become the 'retirement' home for Schwarzkopf coasters- I hate going there for safety reasons, but my unending love for all of His rides drives me to head there. Sigh. I need a huge lottery ticket to bring the rides home to the USA.
