Programming (iOS apps for me), music and concerts, video games, and of course roller coasters.

Peter Murphy with She Wants Revenge at The Glass House in Pomona (CA). Both are very great live, Peter Murphy belted it out and SWR sounded exactly like their recorded music. However, I've just discovered this thread and can't help but plug the greatest concert I've ever been to, LA Rising at the LA Coliseum in the summer. (Rage is my favorite band, and I camped out 36 hours to be in the front)

Yes I know that. But overall every ride on it that I saw yesterday was a little more spinny than on past visits. And on S:EFK, another time they went 3,2,1,-1,-2,-3 then pressed the button. And they are still giving out the 2011 maps. Do you remember if the first trim brake before the first drop was on? I recall one particular ride in the morning when they were having some operational problems and had to close it for a while (after our ride) when the first trim brake didn't brake us and we zipped through the whole ride a lot faster.

^^GL's spinning depends on the weight balance of the car because of what I understand is the free axis nature of the ride. For example, if one side weighs 3 or 4 times more than the other side, you can expect it to spin more than if both sides weighed about the same. ^When I was there last week, one X2 ride op kept singing top 40 songs with X2 fit in somewhere. The best though was when at S:EFK instead of the 321 they went 54545 then hit the button.

To AnonymousReed: Was the GL issue really that irritating? Maybe you just had bad luck, as that happened literally once out of the 35 times I rode it last week (and about 45 since its opening). I find it more of an "oh no, here we go again!" type of thing. From what I can tell, the mechanism works by pushing down on the wheels to flip you right-side-up, but if you're too far upside-down, it won't be able to do it, so one of the ops has to come over and push it the other direction.

Wow, beautiful pictures! Although I hate the Zipper... I'm 6 foot 1 and a 1/2 and I didn't really fit in right and I came out of the ride with a major purple bruise on my leg. -
What are some loud rides and coasters?
dylanreich replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Superman: Escape From Krypton at SFMM. Part of the SFMM walking path goes directly under the track and if you're there when the car gets launched, it can be LOUD. Not to mention you can hear the ride almost anywhere else in the park at night when it's quieter. -

Game: When was the last time you...

Yesterday. I've been vegan since the summer and had a piece of pure milk chocolate someone who didn't know I was vegan gave to me. My stomach was NOT prepared for that, and I've apparently lost my taste for milk chocolate completely. When was the last time you went to the gym? -
What is today, but yesterday's tomorrow?

^^You're getting quite lucky with GL:FF then. The two times I went last week and yesterday, it had at least an hour to an hour and a half wait (minus right after the park opened). Also, I agree with you with what you said about spinning freely. I've had so crazy imbalanced rides where we went into the direction-changes already upside down, which is pretty crazy when you get whipped already upside-down.

I rode it 12 times straight in the morning, then came back and did 18 straight in the evening, and left and returned for the final 5 rides at night. I'd say there was an average of two minutes in-between rides, with some being back-to-back or back-to-back-to-back, based on the availability of an empty seat.

I am changing my #1 to Green Lantern, followed by X2 and Tatsu. I've become friends with its ride ops and they let me ride it 35 times yesterday. I think that your ride experience on it is really hit or miss, depending on what you're looking for. Some people don't like the ride when it spins too much (which I love).

I'm very intrigued as to what they'll do, considering the existing structure doesn't seem to be perfectly vertical. Amazing! I'm definitely going to have to go one or twice this week while I'm still on Winter Break. Does anyone knows if the park even makes money on these types of days? I'm sure this has been discussed before in the past... It makes more money than it would if it had been closed... I was thinking it costs a decent amount to stay open... Salary and the costs to keep the rides open (ex. electricity, fire on X2 if necessary).

1. Indy at DLR 2. Revamped Star Tours queue DLR 3. Goliath at SFMM (same reasons as stated above) 4. Space Mountain at DLR

Best Drops....
dylanreich replied to BiCoastal Kid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not as scary as some other drops, but my favorite is X2's first drop at SFMM. Nothing like being held in by your restraints falling forward with both arms out on a windy day. -

Just got back from the park today, and wow! I heavily took advantage of being there alone. Final ride count: Green Lantern - 7 times Batman - 10 times (never got out of seat) Riddler's Revenge - 1 time Superman: EFK - 7 times Tatsu - 4 times Goliath - 1 time Viper - 2 times X2 - 11 times!!! Green Lantern has an unofficial single rider line, you just go up through the exit and they'll let you on an empty seat. But the craziest thing happened when I was put on an empty seat; I was seated next to someone the same size as me (450 pounds combined) and on the other side as it turned out was 2 weighing-nothing 6 year olds. We spun the whole time like crazy while it was windy. We got to the exit upside-down but unlike others they took 10 minutes getting us right-side up because our side weighed too much. The ride ops said this was the craziest spinning they'd seen. X2 is very easy to get back on right after you get off (11 times straight) if you look for an empty seat (ride ops were ok with that). Even more strange, one side of the line was not being managed well, so I was able to get right back in a row line after getting off. Tatsu was a walk on later in the day, and they were only using one side (but 2 trains). Today was a very dead day, with most rides being walk-ons, with the exception of Riddler, which was only using one train, and X2 and Tatsu which had high points of 30 minute waits. Very saddening though was that I lost my phone while riding Tatsu (???? after riding X2 11 times with it in my pocket?). Find My iPhone says it's by Tatsu, so I'll try to get it back on Friday when I go again.
