Instead of me and my dad, my family as a whole is going to make a trip to SFMM for the first time ever this year. My younger brother really wants to be tall enough to get on all the "big rides" but isn't quite tall enough yet, so he's really excited to go to the park now that there's a decent amount of rides in the family area. They're definitely getting their foot in the door, and hopefully they can improve their image in this manner.

Okay, I will. I'm sorry the park doesn't cater directly to you. Oh no, long lines! Time to go to Universal or Disney where the lines aren't long! Oh no, short lines! I'll give you Jet Stream, but YOLOPlaza is pretty good IMO. It adds some energy to the area, has some cool water mister things coming out of the ground, and has some music playing along with videos to make the line less boring. Also, live music in the summer and Fright Fest. Remember when everyone praised the park for the concept art? Well, it looks exactly the same as the concept art. Totally subjective. I really like Full Throttle, Lex Luthor is pretty fun, and Green Lantern is so so. Not speaking to you directly XYZ, but I know people in general have said that the park should be spending more to have bigger and better coasters. Well, that's how the park got into financial trouble to begin with. They're actually trying to be fiscally responsible while at the same time adding some fun rides to the park. I think we all expect some sort of Iron Colossus soon though. The park can definitely improve in some areas, but I think people would enjoy the park a lot more if they focused on enjoying why they came to the park, for the coasters and not focus on areas that they have no business trying to compete in with the surrounding parks. Also, so this isn't taken the wrong way by anyone, I'm not trying to come off brash or anything, these are just my two cents on the topic.

I'm sure they're happy with all the money they make from anyone who doesn't have a gold pass who has to pay the $20 every time because not everyone is going to get a gold pass; I think this way they insure they get the profit they want. I don't know if the numbers support that since I don't work for Six Flags, but that's my guess.

I can only speak for my generation, but I don't think anyone in their target demographic misses the fact that all they're getting is coasters and if they want something else besides coasters, they need to go somewhere else. Since the park's been this way for a long time, I don't think there's a real learning curve to this, especially with people like me who have experienced the park the way it is the whole time they've been going. I don't know one person besides anyone on here that goes to Magic Mountain and talks about family rides or any other additions besides coasters. Again, only speaking to the people of my generation, but everyone I know when talking about going to the park talks about riding the newest coaster. It is the sole reason they go back IMO. I would say it's a waste of money, and the park knows it is, to focus on anything else.

What is your favorite Roller Coaster?

Damn... when I mentioned El Toro and Millennium Force as my favorite coasters I totally forgot about Skull Mountain. I need to re-evaluate my list now, especially since they put all of those light up skulls with phallic noses in there to spruce up the theming (no really.... look at their noses). Yea, I had I-305 and El Toro up near the top of my list, but I doubt Skull Mountain will ever be unseated as the best. The special effects are just too top-notch. I never noticed the noses! -

That's a nice thing they do with their toy drive. I bet that brings in a lot of people. If I lived locally I would come with friends or family members and take advantage of that offer. Don't they also do a food drive right before Thanksgiving where you get an admission with a bag with at least $15 worth of groceries? Yep, the day before Thanksgiving!

lol, kind of sad when we think of parks maintaining good rides to be odd. -
I don't 'get' TTD or Kingda Ka

Agreed. They had to have that little downward spiral down the other side, because Six Flags. -
^That station roof totally made the ride worse. Seriously, why do people even care about this? I will say I actually do like the plaza with it's steam jet things out of the ground and the big screen at the FT line, but that's probably just me.And, I think the nice theming on recent additions like Green Lantern and Lex Luther beg to differ. If this thread spent half the time complaining about things actually worth complaining about, like understaffing, food options, overall cleanliness, etc. maybe they would actually take note. EDIT: and no praise for their ongoing toy drive with free admission. Ok, rant over.

What would we define as a "good" indicator if it's not a POV? I think it is the best available thing to go off of, so it might as well be a good indicator. I mean it shouldn't be the only thing that plays into one's decision, but if you can definitely tell a ride is sh*tty off of a POV, might as well skip it. a POV gives you a rough idea of what to expect, but isn't definitive.

From what I've been told by a few locals, the ops are told to keep the cars balanced as much as possibly to minimize excessive flipping. Apparently cars coming back to the station upside down have to get flipped back up by maintenance or something. It happened often so they had to stop. Well, they probably would have had the ops do that anyway, but the real dumbing down was them adding weights to the cars so that they didn't flip as easily. Before that, the ride spun like crazy. EDIT: I guess the consensus (and mine) is that the GP couldn't handle the ride and complained and the park didn't want to continue to deal with it.

Definitely the TPR community, I've met and are friends with some awesome people. Also, the trips and ERT.
