What is upsetting about parks side stepping like this, is it gives the entire industry a bad name. It makes these rides look far more dangerous then they really are. To be fair, skirting inspection as it appears might have happened here DO make thrill rides more dangerous then the need to actually be. I'm very interested in who is going to be found at fault, but if the testimony posted above is true, it looks like Six Flags dropped the ball on this one.

That sounds like some very damning evidence. It's a scary thought that a park would stray that far from what is needed to keep these rides safe. I'll be very curious to see if this park suffers some longer lasting reductions in attendance this season. With news like this out there that a park isn't performing the inspections correctly (because it's now easy to assume that other rides have also been neglected) I'm sure a lot of people will think twice before a visit.

I've always wondered how many people working at parks check out sites like this daily. Here's the thing, and I believe Jay Thomas is very smart for realizing this. we are the most observant people when it comes to parks possible. If a TPR member finds gum on the midway that wasn't there before, you better believe there is going to be a thread with pictures and 20 pages worth of discussion about that peace of gum. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong about being hyper-observant towards parks seeing as how this is, after all, our hobby. I post on a few electronic sites where people have hundreds of pages worth of discussion over cables and which ones are the best. I post on an LA Kings message board where people will be able to recall a goal an average player scored in an unimportant game 5 years ago. We're the same here, and I don't think any of you are shocked by that. What I like about Jay Thomas coming here (and I'm sure he lurks much more then he posts) is that he can basically have us being his eyes in the park. We notice all and we are sure not shy about voicing our opinions about it. Park officials can come on here and find out about problems with the park (the ACE plaque for example) that they otherwise would likely not have have even noticed. What's great about the new people in charge at SFMM is they not only take notice, but they generally proceed to fix the problems. In my opinion that is more of a sign than anything else that SFMM is going to make a very nice recovery in the next several years.

The Official Nintendo Wii Discussion Thread
AllenA07 replied to MiamiBoii4392's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well I'm finally one of the cool kids, I've got myself a Wii. Saw it last night at Target sitting out there, and decided I didn't want to wait another 6 months to find another one so I grabbed it. So far I only own Wii Sports, but I'll be adding a few other games in after I'm done with school. -
Congratulations!

Can't believe Scream has been in the park that long now, other then being the ultimate parking lot coaster, it still is a good ride. In my opinion just having park officials post anything on this site and give any kind of feedback says a lot to me. The people running the show now really do seem to care, it's not just an illusion. I had many times talked with Del Holland while I was running my site, and never did he seem as willing to help as does Jay Thomas. The park has a long ways to go before it is running like we all know it can. The difference is now, for the first time in a long time, the park is moving towards what we all know it can be. I can't wait to see this park in 5 years, and see how it's running!

I don't want to post massive quotes so I'll just place the links up here, however considering this school doesn't allow guys or girls to even wear shorts, I think I'll bypass on the coaster and just drive to the closest amusement park. What is most shocking to me is how much people are freaking out about having to spend an entire dollar on a locker. Seriously, it's a dollar. I personally think this is a good idea, I've seen many times where an entire train will be held up because one person has to put there 10 foot tall, 150 pound stuffed Sylvester on the other side of the station. Whenever I go to a park now I typically just stop in the front of the park and get an all day locker for my stuff. Back when I used to live by SFMM, and subsequently visit the park more often, I never took anything that didn't fit safely in my pockets. This whole locker debate is starting to remind me of the little old lady in the Supermarket who argues that her metamucil costs $3.90 as opposed to the $3.99 that it was rung up at. Half the time I'm tempted to simply give the women a dime and move on with our lives. I'd offer the same here, but I tend to think 3/4th's of you would take my dollar.

You know I read that and my first thought was that Disney basically is making the Brave Little Toaster but with the toys from Toy Story. I'm actually interested in seeing how that comes out, the originial Toy Story and The Brave Little Toaster make up two of my favorite movies as a kid.

Well if the lift isn't working there really is no way to get the train over the hill. Plus with anti-rollback devices it's not like they can put the train in reverse and lower it back into the station. Plus there really isn't any problem with the train staying where it is currently, so no real point in moving it.

I had assumed because it was so nice and symmetric of a layout that the ride could easily be flipped around, never noticed though that it only had a single (large) footer. It would have been interesting to see how they flipped it around, can't imagine that a ride that size would have taken all that long to turn around.

Be sure to take breaks between rides, don't overwhlem yourself. Also make sure that you're drinking enough, dehydration can get you feeling sick pretty quickly. Generally now I don't find myself in a situation where it's a problem, but when I used to go for media days where I knew I'd be getting in a lot of rides with few breaks I'd use Transderm Scop patches. You put one on behind your ear and you're good for the rest of the day, those things really seemed to help. If you're in a pinch I've also found that antiacids (Rolaids or Tums) can help make you feel better. Sometimes I even find that stopping and eating something will make me feel better. Just some ideas that you can try if you've got a problem with motion sickness.

If nothing else it is nice to see that Revolution has gotten a little more (they did paint a good part of the coaster right before Tatsu) TLC. As for the lockers, if I go to the park with a lot of stuff, I just go grab one at the front of the park as soon as I get there, never been a big deal to me. I generally try to limit the amount of loose items I take onto a ride because I know that they can easily be lost without due care. God only knows how many baseball hats I've seen on the ground under coasters over the years. Basic point as others have said, if you don't want to pay the $1 for a locker, then don't bring things that you'll need to put into the locker. Problem solved! Now for a question, when people say that Goliath Jr. has been turned 180 degrees do you all mean that they literally lifted the ride up, and turned it around? If so, how do they go about doing that, do they have to install new footers and such? Goliath Jr. looks about the right size that I would think they could literally flip the ride around without having to do a whole lot of work. Just wondering as there are not many pictures of this process. For the record, I've got my Goliath Jr. (well before it was Goliath Jr.)credit from back in the late 80's.

I've actually had problems with this before, generally even after a coaster I've got to rest for 10 minutes before I'm good to ride another one. The only rides where I've had serious problems are flat rides that spin, and Batman: The Ride. Getting stick at a park isn't much fun, but I've learnt many ways to dealing with it that generally don't detract much from my day.

What Do You Make Fun of Most On TPR?
AllenA07 replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^This site actually has some of the best looking posts I've ever seen, some forums are hard to read because of how people write. Also I'll jump on the bandwagon and go with this thread as well. -
They had the signs over the toilet's at SFOT on my last visit, it at least gives something to look at while you pee... I was once somewhere around Staples Center in Los Angeles before an LA kings game and the bathroom had little TV's built into the wall in front of the toilet, so you wouldn't miss the game while peeing. I always had this fear of standing there when the Kings score a big goal or something and the person next to me getting a little too excited and spraying everybody... Not sure how that relates to coasters in any way shape or form, I just found it to be an amusing story... I'm curious to see how many companies pick up on the bathroom advertising system.

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
AllenA07 replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
It's not terribly cold however this morning the sky opened up and a huge amount of rain fell. I basically had to swim to class.
