  1. You know just because Cedar Point loses a coaster doesn't mean Magic Mountain is required to remove a coaster. There is no Mason-Dixon line between Magic Mountain and Cedar point, no roller coaster balance is required to be maintained.
  2. I wouldn't worry about how much space it looks like they have, I've learned that if the park wants a coaster there they are going to find a way to make it fit. Many years ago when running my site I was told the park was looking at the Japanese Gardens (or in the alternate the old Eagles Flight station) for the station of a new roller coaster. I dismissed the rumor because I was pretty sure that there was no room to squeeze a coaster in on the Revolution side of the hill. Several years later when construction began on Tatsu I was stunned because I had been so sure no coaster would ever fit there. The people who do the planning are very good at what they do.
  3. I believe that parts for Goliath were at the park in July of 1999, but it has been a very long time so my memory could be off. Would make sense though cnosidering Goliath had an early February opening. I'm sure track for Riddler's was at the park before September. I recall it getting there very early and without any paint (what's the last time a coaster shipped without paint?). I looked back for fun today at my old website (sfmmguide.com, not really much of a plug as it hasn't been on the web for the last 7 years) and see that I reported that track for Deja Vu and X both arrived in late October 2000, and track for X didn't arrive until several months later. I will also note that both those rides had some very strange (and delayed) openings. X didn't even begin it's initial testing until August of 2001. Does this answer any questions about the 2012 attraction? Maybe only that the park isn't tied down like a true seasonal park and has the option of opening rides at different times of the year. That being said, I'm going to still very tentatively put my money on no new coaster until 2014. I wouldn't be at all surprised if I'm wrong, just my guess. If only The Insider would come by and let us know what's really going on.
  4. My guess is that 2014 has become the new 2013. I would simply expect to see a little more work (pushing dirt around and such) at this point if the park were due for a mega coaster next year.
  5. Ghostrider circa 1999 is still my favorite wooden coaster. I think it's a great design that has been allowed to fall into its current conditition. The ride has a ton of potential however.
  6. People will complain about everything if given the chance.
  7. I'm sad to see this ride closing. I can't for the life of me remember if I was there for media day with PP (it was canceled a few times if I recall) but regardless I was on the ride right around then. The drop was great and the size of the splash was incredable. I never thought the ride was the same after they changed from that 1st generation of boats, the splash became smaller and that made the ride a little less fun. As far as why Knott's is removing it, the thing has been basically a disaster (in terms of upkeep and problems) since before it opened. I was surprised that they didn't remove it a few years ago to be honest.
  8. That sounds terrifying and absolutely awesome, both in equal measure. I never had a problem with it. Basically the original layout (this was back in early 2005) had a text box that functioned as your wall. People would simply come and write messages on it. The bigger problem was when somebody would write on your wall and forget to put their name on the post, because then you had no idea who had left you a post.
  9. I wonder how people would feel if Facebook still had their original timeline, where anybody could edit anybody else's posts.
  10. A few months back I was going through my "bag-o-coaster-stuff" that currently resides in my parents garage and came across the press kit from the opening of SOB. The whole thing made me think back to the incredable amount of hype surrounding that coaster when it opened. With the possible exception of Millennium Force, there really wasn't a bigger hyped ride that year. If Son of Beast doesn't go down as the biggest failures in industry history, it has a firm spot in the top 10.
  11. I'll toss out some good vibes for Alysia Montano, who is competing in the womens 800m. We were friends back in high school.
  12. Did they ever come out and say they were announcing the ride? I think people just read way too much into something that wasn't actually there. didn't they say they would be announcing it way earlier then they usually do for new coasters, due to the amount of work that will be needed to get done? Don't see why that matters. The park could announce the ride 6 weeks before opening if they wanted. If I remember correctly, and I may not, I think the park and announced Goliath sometime around November and then open the ride in February.
  13. I've going to see Evanescence, Chevelle, Candlebox, Hailstorm, Hellyeah, and Aranda on Sunday. It will be my third time seeing Chevelle, but a first on all the others.
  14. i dont get it What part didn't you get? The Aquaman:The Bench joke? (I was wondering how many people would actually remember that 11 year old joke ...) But hey, the colors do match. Bench: The Ride... Some good memories there!
  15. The cost makes complete sense for exactly the reason you stated. If the only real option is for somebody to drive to a park that creates a good amount of demand for parking spaces. The park therefore can dictate the price of the those spaces as high as the market will allow. And in this case the market will allow for this increase. I hate it as much as the next guy, but parking rates are going up everywhere. I'm heading to a concert in a few weeks and I ended up dropping $30 on prepaid parking. Just one of those grin and bear it situations.
  16. I wouldn't pay for internet if I could help it. One of the things I love about crusing is being disconnected from the rest of the world for a week. That being said, if I ever did something longer then a 7 day I think I may change my mind on the subject.
  17. Interesting that they had Dustin Penner come out for the opening.
  18. I would file this under "things happen" and move on. As far as those people saying that the park should have delayed opening a month ago, I'm really not sure why. I run a business where I'm always fighting the calander, often times I finish working on a project hours before it is due. I don't call the courthouse asking for more time with weeks to spare because I still feel there is a good chance I finish the project. I'm sure the people building this ride felt the same way. My guess is that up until shortly before the time they delayed the opening they felt as though they could have the ride ready in time. My point being, why delay something before you know that it is necessary to delay it? For everybody freaking out about the date change, you weren't around when the park was getting ready to open Deja Vu or X were you? I'm pretty sure the media days for those were moved several times each.
  19. A few years back when I was at UCLA I practically lived at the Santa Monica pier. I was out there several times a month to enjoy the beach.
  20. I just finished up Fahrenheit 451 about a month ago. I throughly enjoyed it. Plus the fact that he wrote the book in the basement of my alma mater's library is pretty cool. Sad to hear that he passed away.
  21. Brown wasn't even in the crease!
  22. ^I post often on a Kings fan site and can tell you that NBC isn't the first network to use the wrong Kings logo. It's a running joke there because Jim Hill (believe he is still on CBS, I live in Dallas now so I'm not privy on LA news as much) has repeatedly used the logo for the Sacramento Kings during his broadcasts.
  23. I take it you're not a big hockey fan, eh? Nope. I wasn't expecting the Kings to get in the playoffs. Just like how I thought the Clippers would lose this past Sunday But yeahh just correct me if I say stuff wrong.. I'll help out a (hopefully!) new fan. Hockey has periods, not quarters. And goals not points. Points are something that players get, goals are what the team gets. No worries about not knowing the terms, that comes with times. I can remember being a kid and thinking Powerplays were something that they randomly inserted into the game to make it more exciting. Kind of like when you get multiple balls in pinball... That was nearly 20 years ago now, still seems like yesterday lol.
  24. My wife really enjoyed those books. We own them on Kindle now so eventually I might read them.
