  1. I don't get why people want a ride to suck. Maybe it's just me, but I would always rather have a good ride that doesn't need to get bashed then a crappy one.
  2. Looks like there is going to be great hang time at the top of the loop.
  3. I'm not a huge fan of having a gaming console replace my entertainment system. I will be quick to admit that I'm a home theater snob, I am running a very nice setup and have spent a lot of money doing so. I have a receiver that is doing all of my switching and no gaming console in the world is going to convince me to change my mind on that. In my eyes the game console is a very minor part my home theater (I use it for games alone, I've got a stand alone Blu-ray player). As of right now I do have a preorder in for a launch day PS4 from Amazon. All things considered I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep that preorder at this point. Amazon doesn't charge anything for preordering a system, so I figured it didn't hurt to grab a spot. Same scenario here. I have my system set up a certain way and I don't need some game system telling me how to do it right. I was actually a semi-late adopter to the PS3 (about 1 1/2 years after release) and the original reason we got it was for the Blu Ray. I want to say we have maybe 8 or 9 games with 5 or 6 of them being CoD games that my son just doesn't play anymore. He isn't even interested in getting the newest one that's out. He's been pushing for a WiiU now because Super Smash Bros. is coming out. That will likely be the next system we get and then a PS4 probably in late 2014 and we'll move the PS3 in the bedroom. I was an even later adopter on PS3. I got mine shortly after the slim was released. I had saved up $400 for PS3 and had plans to preorder, however when the higher price came, I couldn't justify the difference. I'm not a starving college student anymore, so I think I may very well go ahead and get the PS4 at launch. In other news, I've got the Last of Us sitting at my house right now ready to go.
  4. Destiny is why I'm holding onto my ps4 preorder.

  6. Took a tour of Beligium tonight. I had a Stella Artois, Leffe blond, and a Hoegaarden.
  7. I'm just not digging this whole theme. I think the ride looks like it's going to a be a whole lot of fun, but I think the theme just plain sucks.
  8. I never let it be all consuming for me so it was never that big of a deal. I always had other interests and things that I could talk about, coasters was just something that people thought I knew more about. In terms of people saying crazy things, I never really bothered to correct them. I figure that it doesn't really matter that the guy sitting across from me thinks Goliath at SFMM goes just 10mph below the speed of light, he enjoys roller coasters enough, and likely doesn't much care that he is wrong. I can't really comment on it since graduating, after high school I really lost much of my interest in it. I for the most part just hang out around here now to see the major developments in the industry.
  9. In the past SFMM had some pretty decent offerings. I remember the Four Seasons steakhouse was pretty good (when did that close?). I also recall Mooseburger not being a terrible option for lunch as it had the same prices as elsewhere in the park and included a free refill. I will also admit a guilty pleasure that I did enjoy the parks chicken strips and fries (though only when I got them from the employee restaurant). That being said, I've not been to the park since 2004, so I'm not really sure where the food has gone since then.
  10. The moose out front should have told them that the outdoor stuff was closed.
  11. In no order: Evans Blue: The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume Breaking Benjamin: Saturate Sick Puppies: Dressed up as life.
  12. Place has gotten no local media attention. Fair Park is a pretty cool place, some very cool buildings down there. However as said above, it isn't in wonderful area, and now the meseums have largely moved downtown. I hope this works out, but I'm not terribly hopeful.
  13. Several years ago I got a nice check in the mail because of those violations.
  14. This policy makes me wonder if there will be any exceptions. When I was in 8th grade it was a tradition that the graduating 8th graders went on a field trip to Disneyland at the end of the year. It was a pretty big deal and was something that I know had been going on for a long time for the schools in the district. Now at the time of that trip I was 13, as were a whole lot of the other kids on that trip. There were a few teachers roaming the park, but for the most part we had free reign from 10am until 10pm. We broke off and went with friends for the day. Now I'm not sure if the schools still do this (it has been a few years since I was an 8th grader) but with the new policy in place I wonder if that is something that is now a thing of the past.
  15. I'm a criminal trial lawyer, so public speaking is no stranger to me. I also sit a a judge for local mock trial competitions. Not exactly the same thing, but a distant cousin to formal debating.
  16. I ran sound for Jubilee there one year and can attest that it is a major event. The year I ran it the headliner was Skillet, which, while not a huge band, has had some commercial successes. Also the park hosts a lot of cheer comps throughout the year (hell with pom-poms). Golden Bear isn't going anywhere.
  17. American with disability act casese are horribly complicated. The law is voluminous and confusing on the matter. I don't really know a whole lot about what happenes from here, but Six Flags would be wise to offer up a few thousand and make this go away. From what I heard on the radio this morning, the park has since changed their policy or made it more clear. That wouldn't easily be admissible in court, but if nothing else makes me wonder if there might be some teeth to this.
  18. I've been hearing good things about the new Mario game. Granted Super Mario World will always be the greatest game ever created in my eyes, but I think that may have a touch of sentimental value coming from me. As for me I picked up the Resistance collection the other day and am about a third of the way through the first game. I've been enjoying it so far. Honestly I'm just trying to bridge the gap between now and the release of The Last of Us.
  19. While I'm not sad that this person didn't recover, I'm generally against limiting liability. Generally it is one of those things that the consumer ends up losing.
  20. And this is why B&M has gone from building intense coasters to mild, floaty, forceless ones. --Robb "How a 'coaster enthusiast' would choose Silver Bullet over Raptor or Batman is beyond me...but whatever..." Alvey Well I would take Silver Bullet over Batman simpy because Batman causes some serious motion sickness issues with me. However my own weak stomach aside, I found Silver Bullet to be one of the most boring coasters I've been on, there are no forces to speak of on the thing.
  21. I think the extreme danger of being in the park at night in the past is greatly overstated. There were some issues in the past, but generally it was safe. I spent a whole lot of time in that park during the early part of the 2000's and I was never afraid.
  22. The lawyer in me says that if they don't go with trained, CDL carrying, drivers SFMM is opening themselves up to an eventual visit from the lawsuit fairy.
  23. Possible that this is simply a space filler for a few seasons and not something that is going to be around for a long time.
  24. Back to the discussion at hand: original thrill shot > this. Too bad Thrill Shot was a total POS from a technical standpoint. From the video alone I think I've got to agree. I went on Thrill Shot a handful of times over the years (always at events where I didn't pay) and thought it was a good ride, but I don't think I would have been willing to pay the upcharge fee for it. If I wasn't willing to pay the upcharge for that, I see little chance I would be dropping $30 on this one.
