Adventuredome Discussion Thread

Are those the same type trains that went on Drachen Fire? They look the same. Sort of interesting some other newer Arrows didn't get those trains (like Tennessee Tornado), but maybe that's because Drachen's reception wasn't too positive. -
I'm actually happy that Six Flags will likely not convert theirs (okay, maybe Apocalypse would be okay...). I think that stand-ups need to live on at least in some places. And it helps that Six Flags generally has better stand-ups than Cedar Fair does. I hope they stay as they are for a good, long time. Honestly if I were Cedar Fair I'd keep Vortex at Carowinds as it is too. I think it's fine. But I'm sure they'll get around to converting it.

Carowinds Discussion Thread
11slataus replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Totally true. To remove the stand-up aspect is to remove the best, most interesting part of the ride. Plus Vortex is pretty fine as it is. Compared to Iron Wolf, Vortex might as well have Georgia Scorcher. Barely any roughness at all. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
11slataus replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm a little bummed about that, because I feel Vortex here is a significant step up from its California cousin. But yeah, I think it's probably on the table. I just don't know how well exactly converting these tiny stand ups will work. I mean, at least floorless Carowinds Vortex wouldn't have a far better and larger floorless just a short drive away to compete with, but with both these coasters, taking away the standing is to take away the one interesting thing about the ride. Both are pretty underwhelming, average little rides. Making them sit down--floorless or not--essentially removes a lot of the uniqueness in the first place. That's where Carowinds Vortex has an advantage. It DOESN'T suck so much at being a standup, which is about the best you can hope for with standups. But it would be a pretty forgettable sitdown coaster. I'd like Carowinds to just save their money. -
Video and Question about 4K HDTVs!
11slataus replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1) Do I have a 4K TV? No 6) How eager am I to get one? At the moment, not very much. At least not until more things are visible and available in 4K definition. 7) 3D vs 4K? 4K for me. Crystal-clear picture beats the 3D. -
I haven't yet ridden Rougarou, but I was always a huge Mantis fan. I really like how the layout doesn't just give up in the second half. Even with one inversion, it always stayed intense with those fast transitions that I found thrilling but I guess many found painful. While I was sad to lose the standup aspect, I am excited to try it out one day soon as a floorless. Raptor is an easy second place. Gatekeeper's pretty but doesn't do much of anything beyond that.

B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
11slataus replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I much prefer the old, for reasons most people have already mentioned. The reclined seats really seem to take me out of the action, and I hate how it holds you in snugly no matter how you move. I really like to lean forward and really get into my rides, and the vests eliminate that. I can SORT OF see the need for them on wing coasters, but when Cedar Fair starts putting them on inverts and divers, I think they've gone too far. I ride Sheikra regularly and don't think I've had head banging once. It and Griffon are some of the smoothest rides I've been on. The vests are completely unnecessary. I love how Valravn's layout looks, but the restraints do concern me. Part of the fun on divers is leaning forward into the drop (at least for me), and I'm not sure it (and the accompanying airtime) will be possible with the vests. The camelback too...I feel could be like Gatekeeper's. There IS airtime there...but I never leave my seat. I am worried about that. All that being said, I do admire Cedar Fair's innovation with B&M. I love the new hyper coaster style seating on Behemoth, Diamondback, and Intimidator. Fury looks great as B&M's first 300+ coaster. Just not a fan of the new generation of B&M vest coasters. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
11slataus replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love both Griffon and Sheikra, so the fact that this coaster appears to do more than both of them looks like a huge win. My one gripe is that I wish it would do an extra turn or two before the MCBR. Seems like a huge waste of kinetic energy. But it makes up for it with a stellar-looking second half! Part of me does wish CP would have knocked the dive coaster concept out of the park, but this does look to be the best one out there, so I'm sure I'll be happy to have it in the park. -
Custom Coasters International in retrospect
11slataus replied to sirspud's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yes, GG's today often look and feel like giant GCI's to me. And CCI's last coaster, the NM Rattler, always seemed to be like CCI's take on a GCI--with CCI's characteristic underbanking. I guess maybe super-twisty, wavy-turned layouts were in at the time. While wooden coasters evolved recently with crazy airtime, inversions, and supertwisties, no one really does laterals like CCI did. That's what I miss most. -
Custom Coasters International in retrospect

I've been lucky to have been on several of their designs. Some of the best ones being The Boss, Shivering Timbers, Tremors, and Cornball Express (among a few others). The Boss is my second favorite woodie behind El Toro, and even with its current roughness, that thing is HOT. It's raw, intense, and it feels unbelievably fast. And Shivering Timbers just seems to go on and on. I agree with Robb I haven't felt that intensity on any GCI or RMC (although I have only ridden Goliath). Wish they were still around... -

^I'm very curious if they'll include Mantis on that wall. -
There's a chance I may stop by SFOG on my way down to Disney from Illinois on either this Friday or Saturday. Thought I'd ask a few questions to those who know: 1) If I arrive Friday (which is more likely) I won't be able to get there until probably noon at the earliest. I'm tentatively planning on getting a Gold Flash Pass, but will this be necessary? I assume it will be busy especially after school gets out on that Holiday weekend. 2) Does the Flash Pass work for Namtab? 3) I plan on hitting all the coasters (with Superman being low priority as we have it at SFGAm), Acrophobia, SkyScreamer, Monster Mansion, and the water rides and Super Loop (if open). Any other rides worth it or any that have been down all season? 4) Any plans on what to do first/order to do things? If Saturday then I'd get there at opening, but it looks to be likely midday Friday. Thanks all!

Regarding the path issue between Batwing and Mind Eraser...I just can't see that happening. Not because there's no space between Mind Eraser and the rapids, but just the path itself. That would be an INSANELY long path with nothing on it. Maybe 6F would at most add a bathroom and a restaurant, but there's no way there will be any attractions, at least not for a while. I just can't imagine even Six Flags making a new pathway with absolutely no incentive to use it. It would be good for future expansion, true. But for the time being I can't see it happening. I mean, look how LONG a path that would have to be! They would need a massive 5-year addition plan to make that worth it.

Still hasn't made its way to SFSTL. Kind of thinking it never will, which is kind of funny considering they tested the idea here first. Can it be used at St.Louis?? Since it's a mirror image, Would that have anything to do with it?? Seeing how the Batman at SFSTL was used to test the idea (as stated above) the fact that it's a mirrored layout has nothing to do with it. All of the Batman models left remaining--Vampire, Goliath, and SFStL's Batman--are mirrored clones. I agree that the mirror probably has nothing to do with it, but it is interesting how that turned out. While SFStL does tend to get overlooked a lot, I doubt that Six Flags would miss the opportunity to market Namtab as a new ride of sorts. I suspect it to head over to St. Louis in 2016, probably sharing 2016 with Fiesta Texas's Goliath. I can't explain it, but I have a feeling if any park gets left out, it would be La Ronde, but who knows? Maybe it'll show up there in 2017.

I'm not sure if it plays the actual song, but I do seem to recall it having some music not that long ago. I went this past summer, and yes, it still plays. Great song! -

TPR Facebook Questions
11slataus replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Do you have your videos set to auto-play on your: a. desktop computer and/or b. mobile device? (or if you don't know, just tell us if the videos auto-play or not in your newsfeed.) No 2. Do you regularly "share" content from Facebook "page" (like the TPR page) to your own personal Facebook page? And have you shared something from the TPR page? Not regularly, but I do occasionally share. And I have from the TPR page. 3. What kind of content are you most likely to share? (Videos, Photos, News Stories, etc?) Cool videos or awesome industry news 4. How long on average do you watch a video posted to Facebook for? Do you watch the entire video? First 30 seconds? Until you get bored? Until I get bored is a good way to put it 5. How important are "video thumbnails" to you? (the image you see with the > Play icon before you click to watch a video) Not hugely important. But if I see a ride I want I'll click it. It helps to have the ride in the thumbnail. 6. What do you like/dislike about Facebook? What features do you use the most and which ones annoy you? I like most of it. I use chat a lot, I like a lot of stuff. Nothing I hate, really. 7. Is there anything that TPR does or doesn't do on Facebook that you think we should be doing more/less of? I think you're doing okay. But isn't there a question option? Some fun polls or something would be kinda cool. -

Yeah, regarding the layout itself, I like it a lot. I don't think it needs two stalls, though. I think more airtime there would be sufficient. The double roll finale is really cool also. And again regarding the capacity, CP would probably elect to keep the MCBR, so it can still run three trains if it needs to. I love the dive loop! But I would miss the over-the-lift turn. Overall, a really cool design! -
