Kolmården Discussion Thread
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great looking coaster! I hope to be able to ride it one day. I could ride El Toro all day long so if this is similar then I know it'll be a hit! What are suicide hills? -

Looks like you had a great time! I enjoyed all your pictures and captions. If you don't mind me asking, what does a cruise like this one cost? -
Photo TR: Kings Dominion Preview Day 3/30/14
TBpony414 replied to KDGY75's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Great Preview Day TR! I love all the different rides at KD and have been going there since they had the safari but this definitely brings a new sparkle to the park. The paint and upgraded signs, flowers, etc. really make a big difference. Do you know if all the rides are expected to be open this weekend? Minus Tomb Raider and possibly Drop Tower. I wasn't planning to go until the end of the summer but all these additions make me want to get back there ASAP. Super excited about Rebel Yell's new/old look!!! -
I finally finished reading this TR. I was super busy with the holidays and my computer flatlined just after New Years but I got it fixed thankfully. Living just outside DC, I've been to Williamsburg many times and it's always beautiful and my food experiences have been similar - mediocre at best except for the rare expensive meal. Visiting at Christmas would be really beautiful because Colonial Williamsburg does their own special thing and Busch Gardens does Christmastown which is just phenomenal. Highly, highly recommend it! What program do you use to resize the pics and put the black border around them? I like that. Looking forward to the TR of your March trip to Disney!

Christmas Tree Ornaments – Theme Park Related
TBpony414 replied to OISU8P's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great thread idea! Some of these ornaments are really cool and I never even thought to use keychains. That's genius! And much cheaper and easier to store than fragile round balls (no way of phrasing this better haha.) We don't have our tree yet and all our ornaments are still in boxes in the basement but once we get it up I'll snap a few pics. We have some neat park ones. -
Here let me help you mimic the experience at home... Sit in a chair, any chair. Your office chair or kitchen. It doesn't really matter. Just sit there. Don't do anything for about 90 seconds. There. You're done. You've just ridden a B&M Wingrider. ^LOL! I'd rather ride around in my friend's miserable Honda CRV, which has the most uncomfortably hard, unsupportive seats on the planet than waste my time walking up the entrance ramps and exerting energy getting in and out of the seats for either X-Flight or Gatekeeper. Such a waste of a ride.

TR: Thanksgiving in New York City 2013!

Robb and Larry, thanks very much for the pizza info. I'll keep my fingers crossed we can get in the door easily this coming weekend! -
TR: Thanksgiving in New York City 2013!
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Approximately how long is the wait time if you don't get to Lombardi's when they open? I will be just on a day bus trip to NYC and while we are breaking off from the group for the second half of the day I don't think we can be there by opening. If we show up at 1 PM, will we be waiting for 30-60 minutes? If it would be better to go later on in the day, say for early dinner around 5 PM, we could also do that. Also is the margherita pizza you recommended the one shown in your TR here? Because that looks amazing. What flavors of cupcakes did you get at Molly's? I checked out their website and they look delicious. I've never had different gourmet cupcakes before (which is probably why I love Crumbs - don't know any better) but would love to know what you had. Thanks! -
TR: Thanksgiving in New York City 2013!
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cool little trip report and especially fun to read since I'm going to NYC next Saturday for the day. You guys did a lot in a short amount of time! Regarding backstage Broadway tours, is that something where you have to have connections to do so or is there a way for the average Joe to buy backstage passes? I am seeing a Broadway play next weekend and would love to do a tour. Important question!!! How does the cupcake place you visited compare to Crumbs Bake Shop, my fav. place on the planet? -
What do YOU take with you to a park?
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Fun topic, Robb! I take a fanny pack with the following items squished into it: - Credit card - Cell phone (sometimes 2, depending on if someone is with me) - Car key which clips to convenient key clip inside big zipper pocket - Extra hair band - Dramamine - Sunglasses with straps and an additional pair of straps because someone in my group will need them - Small snack such as a Nutrigrain bar, Fruit snacks, or some mints - Crappy plastic water bottle that I can refill at fountains. Occasionally I can get someone with cargo shorts to carry this which is nice. Wish they made cool cargo shorts for girls! I have yet to find any. Also, I have found bag searches to be difficult to get through with an empty water bottle. They often have taken it from me however when someone else in my group has cargo shorts filled with brand new water bottles they don't say a word. I don't quite understand it but just shrug and if they take the bottle I fork over some money to buy a new one at the nearest stand I see. I follow the approach listed by someone else a page or two ago about having a positive attitude and it really does improve your day! When the weather looks iffy or we are going to do waterpark stuff we take a backpack with some ponchos and a change of clothes to store in a rabbit. -
How neat! I really enjoyed this report. I love space stuff in general but am not a space geek either although it doesn't take a whole lot of brain cells to see from the pics and video that you had an AWESOME time!!! I'm going to have to look into the new launch system they're creating as I don't know anything about it. Dec 2017 seems so far away!

The way you name your TRs is so clever and I always look forward to seeing where in your TR you came up with the title for it. Usually I have to wait quite a while (like the one about guys with guitars) but this one happened early! CW is a big place and the actors are all very passionate about their roles. It's neat to see.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
mhuff - that is very interesting about the history of Kings Dominion and I watched two of the video - one of Yogi's Cave, which I have fond childhood memories of, and another with Smurf Mountain. It was so neat to see the mountain back in its old state without the twisted heap of coaster track and supports coming out of it. I do wish they'd get some of the smaller waterfalls working again and put something in the water so it wasn't so icky looking all the time. Thanks for posting! -
Can't tell you how many times I've been to BGW and I didn't know they had a cool pottery place! I like the purple glaze Claire chose for the bottom. You've been very spoiled by all things Disney so anything else will pale in comparison. BGW really is a pretty park but doesn't put in anywhere near the amount of details in things like Disney does. The frozen lemonade slushies are my favorite thing ever. Did you end up riding anything at all?

That was a little bit of an abrupt ending. What ever happened with your car tire? I'm sad to see this TR come to a close! The security guard may not have been tailing you originally but after you took her picture a few times she probably added you to her watch list LOL. For how long are you going to be in DW in March?
-
Woohoo finally!!! I have been waiting for this TR for oh, close to a year now LOL. I remember chatting with you when you were in the beginning planning stages. A whole week in Williamsburg seems like a long time but I visit there quite often so I'm interested to see what all you did. Surprised you didn't rent 2 cars... that definitely can be a source of friction between family/friends on vacation but I'm glad to hear it worked out ok

The Christmas decorations are all just beautiful and the castle is especially breathtaking. Do you think the next time you go to Disney it will be not as awesome to you since the decorations will be just normal? It's hard to believe the TR has been going on for 10 months and is almost to an end! I'm so sad. What's next? Williamsburg, please? (I've been waiting patiently all summer haha!) What else do you have planned for the future? Reading your TRs is so relaxing for me and I love how you put in random details and little stories about what happened along your day.

Photo TR: Chuck Finally Returns to Japan with TPR
TBpony414 replied to cfc's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
The end has come far too soon! This Japan trip looked like a lot of fun and reading along with your TR was enjoyable. Some of your comments are hilarious. Thanks for posting, Chuck! Will you be going on the Weird Japan trip next year? -
2014 TPR Tour Questionnaire is out!
TBpony414 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hi neighbor! I live in Sterling Wondering what kind of job you have that you're able to take more than 2-3 weeks off per year? Not trying to be a creepster, honestly interested because for me trying to get anything more than 2 weeks is impossible. -
Really great photos!! I haven't been to CP since Millennium Force was built so it's nice to experience the park through your pics. I have a question about your camera - what do you do with it during the day? Keep it in a goo bunny? Store it in the hotel room and then go back specifically for it and just walk around snapping pics? What if you have the camera and want to hop on a ride and there's nobody to watch the camera? I have a Nikon D200 and am overly protective of it so never take it to parks because I don't know what to do with it. (Instead I take it to the beach to take pictures of my dogs splashing in the waves and get sand and seawater in it, sigh.) Thanks!

Happy to see SFA getting some more updates and rides! The park has really transformed in the last 3 or so years but DT is right, it still does have a bad reputation with the local folks. I think that will change but it'll take some time and people will need to be convinced to go there and see the changes for themselves. Hersheypark, SFGAdv, Kings Dominion, and BGW are all within a reasonable driving distance of DC and have tv/radio ads on all the time here so people seem to go to those parks instead. A ride is a ride and I'm glad SFA is getting some new additions!

I've been away on vacation for a few weeks and finally got a chance to check your updates only to see the news about Paige. I'm so sorry to hear about her accident - she must have had an angel with her at the time to survive such a bad wreck. And then your car got hit on her first outing, oh my!! Talk about bad luck. Glad everyone is ok and hopefully you are both able to do a bit of resting to recover from the physical and emotional events. Not sure where the "Hang in there" smiley is but... hang in there!
