  1. I saw the two videos in the locked thread. I first one looks very similar to X2's design, but I am intrigued by the second design. I wish he would have ran the car through the track on the second design. So is the guy in the You Tube video working independently or with a design/engineering firm?
  2. Nice shots of DC Universe and Green Lantern First Flight. Looking forward to the next 8 picture segment.
  3. Nice Jersey Shore and NYC pics! I really like Stewart's sodas too, all their non-diet flavors I've tried are great. i especially like their Key Lime and Peach flavors, and if you think the Orange Cream flavor is hard to find, try finding the Peach one.
  4. I Think it would've fit better in Nashville. It is nicknamed "The Music City" And Nashville's County Population is higher than Horry County I Don't think Las Vegas Would Work. It seems like they're trying to get rid of anything Non-Casino. It would have probably worked in Nashville better than Myrtle Beach, but I still think it would have worked in Vegas, especially being it wasn't geared towards kids or families.
  5. This isn't the William Hung of TRs. For a express TR, it actually delivers. Nice job.
  6. I think this place would have done way better in Vegas. The whole music theme would have fit there with the Hard Rock brand especially since they already have the Hard Rock Hotel plus Vegas gets way more tourism then Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach may get a decent number of regional tourists but Vegas gets them from across the world.
  7. I think its dumb too, not only because of being next door to a amphitheater but because there is excess housing and we're in a housing slump.
  8. I love your TR Can't wait to see more. I just have a couple of questions for you, how does Wonder Wheel compare to the one at DCA (in the swinging seats) and comparing 1920's beach-side classic woodies which do you like better, Cyclone at Coney Island, or Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz?
  9. I was referring to an E-ticket attraction, like a major ride, not an E-ticketing system to buy park tickets. Every time I've visited PA, they have at least 2 trains running on all their coasters and they move their lines quickly, but everytime I've visited its been a weekday in July.
  10. Nice pics. I really like the one that lists all the attractions and the waiting times. At what time of day was that taken (I'm guessing around 2PM)? Those are crazy long lines for most the rides except for old Star Tours. And the only Fast Passes left are Haunted Mansion and Captain E.O. I would be Fast Passing Haunted Mansion and riding Star Tours at that time of the day hoping lines for the other rides get shorter or that they are high balling the waiting times like Disney tends to do.
  11. Great TR. I noticed a lot of the PA parks are Pepsi parks. Not that it really matters to me as I won't pay more than $2 for a soda.
  12. If his goals was to get a lot of comments on his TR then he definitely succeeded
  13. I'm going to down to OC for the Epicenter concert on Sat Sept 24 at Verizon Amphitheater. I was already thinking of doing Wild Rivers the day after and almost have my friend convinced to go there, and now since it will be closing down after this season, I am definitely going there on Sun Sept 25. I have never been there before (and I lived in Irvine from 1981 to 1989) so I this will be my last chance to visit Wild Rivers. Even if it reopens in a different location it will not be the same since most of the old school slides they have are concrete and not portable (and those are the good ones there I heard). It won't even have the same name if it reopens.
  14. Definitely Grizzly at CGA. Not because it is rough but because it doesn't really do anything and its way too short. Its taking up valuable space at CGA and they sure could use another star attraction.
  15. They just sound bitter. Do they know how S:EFK works? If Superman isn't a roller coaster than neither is Wicked Twister by their logic. Superman is a legit coaster. It runs on coaster tracks, it is launched and uses gravity to fall back to ground level. If Cedar Point wants the coaster record back then why don't they just build two more coasters. They could build two cheap ass kiddie coasters and have the record back. On another note maybe we shouldn't count kiddie coasters (ones adults can't ride without a kid)? Saying you have 17 or 18 coasters to ride at your park doesn't mean anything if I can't ride them all. This stuff is all relative anyway, so stop complaining Cedar Point, your park is still great and still on my list to visit even though you no longer have the coaster record for now.
  16. Ok here's a POV of Sky Glider that I took from the Hurricane coaster to the other end of the Boardwalk. It took me eight minutes to get from one end of the Boardwalk to the other end as the Sky Glider stopped several times while I was on. I would say this added at least two more minutes to the journey (and video). I filmed Hurricane, Double Shot, and Giant Dipper while I was on this. Excuse me for the shakiness of the video as I didn't have my main camera and was filming with my Droid X phone which has no zoom. Feel free to post any comments!
  17. Here's a video I filmed of Double Shot at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with the Pirate Ship in the background in 720p HD.
  18. I like Garfield. He's one of my favorite cartoon characters. I wish more parks used the Garfield and Friends characters...to bring me back memories of my favorite Saturday morning cartoon.
  19. I may visit SFDK next year as I went to CGA this year (a few days before the event since the timing of it didn't work out for me). It looks like SFDK has improved since it was called Marine World plus they have the new Sky Screamer, plus the Shouka show which I haven't seen or the Pandemonium credit which I haven't ridden. I usually hate advertising wrapping around coaster cars (e.g. Got 2 Be hair gel on Viper at SFMM) but the Stride one on Boomerang actually looks good! If they limited the coaster advertising wrapping to cookie-cutter non-themed rides like Boomerang I would be fine with that. One thing I noticed about your TR is you complained about not being allowed to wear glasses on rides at CGA but didn't complain about having to pay for 1ockers to put your stuff in before riding coasters at SFDK, did they not enforce that policy while you were there? CGA had cubbies, bins and the ground by the exits of the loading stations which I thought worked fine and saves the hassle of having to go put your stuff in a 1ocker for every major coaster.
  20. Are you getting a park hopper pass or a one day at each park pass? You said you are going in a few weeks on a M-T-W, if this happens to be early September then you're in luck. The last time I went to Disneyland and DCA (I hopped both parks in one day since I've been there many times) was a Wednesday on September 1st, 2010 and it was the lightest crowds I had even seen there in my life (no kidding!). Granted, this year they are two new rides so they will be more people there than last year (even in September when kids are back in school) though it will probably still be better than any other time of the year. If you are going to Disneyland first I would go straight to the new Star Tours, grab a Fastpass for later, and get in the standby line if it isn't already too long. After that I would check out the surrounding Tomorrowland attractions such as Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage (don't wait more than 15 min for this one) and Autotopia and ride any one of these that still has a short line. Captain E.O. which is also there should have a short line all day so you can come back to it later. After Tomorrowland head to Fantasyland and do any ride there that interests you before the line gets longer later (since they are mostly low capacity rides). You'll definitely want to hit Matterhorn which is technically in Fantasyland but is between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. The Matterhorn has two sides to it that are almost mirror images, and the loading stations are side by side with lines going around opposite sides of the mountain. I would do the Fantasyland side first as it often closes down at night (due to the fireworks show?) and if you don't get to the Tomorrowland side you can ride it later. Even if you end up riding both sides of the Matterhorn early on, I would ride it again at night (Tomorrowland side). After Fantasyland I would head to Toontown and hit up Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin and Gadget's Go Coaster (if the line's not too long) unless your Star Tours Fastpass is ready, then go back there. After this you'l want hit up Adventureland, Frontierland, and Critter Country and get a Fastpass for either Indiana Jones Adventure or Splash Mountain. If Indiana Jones or Splash Mountain have a standby line of 30 min or less I would get in it. You may want to check on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in between these rides as it usually has a shorter line than Indy or Splash. Okay, the attractions at Disneyland that usually have a short line all day long are Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion (though it may be closed in late Aug-early Sept for transformation to the Haunted Holiday), It's A Small World, Captain E.O., The Enchanted Tiki Room, and the canoes, sailing ships, riverboats, and rafts around Frontierland/Critter Country. If you are looking for a reasonable snack or light meal at Disneyland I would go with Bengal Barbeque in Adventureland. Their skewers are really good and are under $4 each, I got two different ones for under $8 last year and that was a light dinner for me. I would also definitely try the Dole Whip float (about $5 but worth it) or the Dole pineapple soft serve ice cream. Shows in Disneyland that are can't misses are the nightly fireworks spectacular (at least one of the nights you're here), Fantasmic if its in season, the original Tiki Room show if you've never seen it, and Captain E.O. if you've never seen it or would like to see it again. The Soundsational Parade is new but I don't know how good it is. For Disney California Adventure I would head to Soarin' Over California first since it is very close to the entrance and either grab a Fastpass to ride it later or ride it now if the line is short (or maybe both if you want to ride it twice, but for me once a visit is enough). After that I would head to the new Little Mermaid Ariel's Undersea Adventure and ride it before the line gets too long (I don't think this one has Fastpass). After that head to Tower of Terror and get a Fastpass for it and/or wait in the standby line to ride it (if its not too long). After that head to Paradise Pier and ride California Screamin' and Toy Story Midway Mania (this one was closed when I visited last year ) or get a Fastpass for California Screamin' when one becomes available - I don't think Toy Story Midway Mania has Fastpass. Ride any other Paradise Pier ride that intrigues you. I would ride Mickey's Fun Wheel in the swinging cars, it is quite thrilling for a ferris wheel. You will also want to ride Goofy's Sky School for the credit - if the line is longer than 20-30 min just have your group go in the single rider line as long as you don't mind sitting separating for one ride. After this you should ride Grizzly River Run (the best rapids ride in CA) if you haven't already - the line isn't too long for this one usually unless its a really hot day (if so then Fastpass it for later if its available). Atractions at DCA that have a short line throughout the whole day are Muppet Vision 3D, Its Tough To Be A Bug, Monsters Inc Mike and Sulley to the Rescue (usually), most of the minor Paradise Pier rides, and the Flick's Fun Fair rides (which suck). Shows in DCA that are can't misses are the nightly World of Color and Its Tough To Be A Bug. I heard the Aladdin Musical is supposed be good if you are into musicals but I've never seen it as I'm not really into musicals. My top five favs for Disneyland are: Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. My top five favs for DCA are California Screamin', Tower of Terror, Grizzly River Run, Soarin' Over California, and Its Tough To Be A Bug ( I haven't been on Toy Story Midway Mania yet or else this might be in my top five). Don't miss any of these! One more thing, I don't know if you are staying at a Disney hotel, but if you are not, stay at one of the hotels across the street from Disneyland on Harbor Blvd so you can easily walk into the park. I stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites last year and if you are simply looking for a decent, affordable, clean room to crash at night then it does the job. It is located right by the traffic light where you cross the street straight into the Disneyland Resort property and has a small indoor pool/jacuzzi and included morning continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast). Most of all have fun
  21. Of the ones I've been on, hands down Grizzly River Run at DCA. Everything from the lift hill with leaking water spouts, to the mini drops on top, to the final main drop, to the geysers blasting at you at the end is awesome about the ride.
  22. Lake Compounce: I've wanted to ride Boulder Dash ever since I saw it on Bert the Conqueror. I had never heard of Lake Compounce before that episode but it made me look it up on the internet and then I came onto this website more often (first as a lurker, then I joined in June). I love terrain coasters and wish they were more of them. I feel that not being able to see the complete layout adds to the thrill element and riding through all that lush scenery adds to the enjoyment of the ride. I also heard that Lake Compounce gives free fountain sodas just like Holiday World - how cool! How much money did Piers spend on alcohol on that NE trip He reminds me of my friend Mikko I had in college who was from Finland who also drank like crazy although he wasn't gay. SFNE: I'll have to ride Bizarro one day to see how good it is. I also saw this one on Bert and he said it isn't the tallest or the fastest coaster but it's the best. I'd love to see a TPR/Bert the Conqueror crossover, I wonder if he is aware of TPR. I also agree that Travel Channel should pay Robb for his POV footage of coasters, or better yet hire him for a show or special (as long as he's still able to keep TPR up and running). TPR on Philly NBC News: Great report on TPR rather than just being about the park they visited. You can tell this is a big city station by the reporting they did - it almost sounded like it was for Dateline NBC . My only problem is they should have shown more Great Adventure footage instead of showing several clips of Green Lantern First Flight at SFMM. And I wish I could find a girl like that one you call Spears (what is her real/TPR name btw?) who likes to reride coasters multiple times
  23. ...or selling Primerica Insurance. I almost got trapped in that one thanks to a friend, but I typed Primerica into the Google search bar to find out more on the company and "Primerica scam" was one of the choices that came up and I ended up saving my friend from getting into it.
  24. Cool video. I can't recognize the place! You can actually see Gold Rusher's layout, a sky ride with a steep incline, and the place looks a lot more desert-like than today with 40 years for the trees to grow. All though I love sky rides and seeing the Metro operational, I'd still take the Magic Mountain of today with its 18 coasters and trees/plants grown to full size - even with crowds, long lines, and slow operations. Someone on here mentioned that Six Flags is not tied to any movie studio or TV network. They were in the 90s when Time Warner owned them - I kinda wished Time Warner would have stuck with Six Flags so they would have had the $$ necessary to make maintenance and operations improvements.
  25. ^I went to the Boardwalk recently and I agree with you on the Giant Dipper, Hurricane, and Crazy Surf. Crazy Surf was the surprise hit of the park. I did a TR of 1907 Nights at the Boardwalk and the rides I went on a little over a week ago and have them posted here if anyone wants to take a look at them and/or leave comments. They are right below the Raging Waters San Jose pics as I went there during the day and Santa Cruz at night. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60019
