I vote for New Hotness, those are all parks I have never been to and would like to visit. -
Post your milestone coasters
805Andrew replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
#1 I don't remember it but since my first park was Disneyland it was either Matterhorn, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or Space Mountain, 1980s #25 Superman the Escape (#24 was one side, #25 was the other side), Six Flags Magic Mountain, 1997 #50 Roar, Six Flags Marine World, 2004 #64 Woodstock's Express, California's Great America, 2011 (most recent credit) I went to Knott's in 1989 and remember riding Montezooma's Revenge (I think) but don't recall the Soap Box Racers, Corkscrew, or Twister, so I don't count them (I was 7). I main thing I remember from my first Knott's trip was the Parachutes, Log Ride, and a coaster that goes forwards and backwards. I also went to the Orange County Fair in the late 1980's and to the California Mid State Fair in 1989 but I don't remember what I rode there or if I rode any coasters. So I guess this list is estimated/relative. I'm pretty sure my first coaster was Matterhorn (probably Tomorrowland side) because it had the lowest age/height restriction of the coasters at Disneyland. -

Most Complicated Restraints
805Andrew replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think the worst restraints are Revolution at SFMM. Over the shoulder restraints which are very uncomfortable plus a lap bar is overkill for a coaster with one loop. The X2 restraints are kinda weird and feels like putting on a vest (or as someone said a backpack) but they don't bother me, plus due to their design 48" kids can ride (I don't know if this was intentional). -

If your going to drink and ride have the courtesy to recycle when you done! Jeeze, have some courtesy. I know! Especially in Santa Cruz -
How did the Canadian Border Patrol treat you guys? Did they search the buses? How did you get all that alcohol across? Did you guys just average one liter of alcohol per person so it was technically allowed? When I crossed the Canadian border last November (WA to BC on I-5) they asked me a million questions and did a full cavity search...of my car. True story.

A 52" height requirement seems a bit steep, but it must be the design of the restraints, not the intensity of the ride. What surprises me more though is one of the most intense roller coasters around, X2 at SFMM, only has a 48" height restriction. Again, it must be the design of the restraints, not the intensity of the ride. Its too bad that Windseeker has such a high height restriction as a lot of kids without a fear of heights at Knott's would want to ride this one. A lot of adults not into very intense rides though will like Windseeker though (if they don't mind the height of it).

I Love To Stand on Log Flumes! (video)

The best I have is when I was riding the Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz in July, one of the guys two rows ahead of me cracked open a can of Budweiser and started drinking it on the lift hill. The guy next to him was reaching his arms towards the railing on the first turnaround and the guy drinking the beer threw his beer can after the second drop to his right towards the street. All I was thinking was "please don't throw your can behind you" and "I hope none of his beer splashes on me". I knew it was a bad sign when this guy was drunk and obnoxious in line, the right seat in my row was wet from beer (I moved over to the left) and the guy behind me found a beer can underneath his seat. At least none of that idiot's beer got on me and I enjoyed the last train of the night on Giant Dipper. -
If they were going to run one side of Superman backwards and the other forwards they have just done that instead of spending all that $$$ on the second backwards train only to get rid of it. I say that Superman will stay both sides running backwards, though it would be cool if they launched the forward side while the backwards side was falling down from the top (dueling ). A drop tower at the top of the mountain or where Sling Shot currently is sounds reasonably possible for 2012 and for 2013 we may get that Dive Coaster in DeJaVu's spot . We'll see Edit: I wasn't aware that the new Superman trains could be easily turned around to launch either way. If that is true, then within a couple of years it would be cool to have the right side launch forward when the backwards side (left side) is at the top so they duel halfway in between on the track, but only if they program the rides so they duel.

Andy Shine's Quiz Time
805Andrew replied to Simon Baynham's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
18/20 on the US/Canada quiz 8/20 on the European quiz 12/20 on the Rest of the World quiz I guess I pay more attention to the US parks because they're the ones I'm most likely to visit. -
TPR's North East USA Tour Official Report!
805Andrew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That makes sense. At first I thought since Darien Lake was in NY it would closer to the other NE parks but then I saw how far out it was in Western NY on Google Maps (closer to Toronto then anything else). It shows you how much I know about NY and the NE I need to visit that part of the country sometime. -

I really enjoy reading these TRs. Makes me really want to go on a TPR trip so badly. Where are you guys going next year? Can't wait for the Road to Cedar Point TR. Just out of curiosity, what made you guys skip Darien Lake (was it way out of the way or just not worth going to)? -

Nice pics Kings Dominion looks like a nicely landscaped park with great rides. I especially like the theming of Volcano, I wish more rides launched out of the top of a structure. Makes me wish CGA was more like Kings Dominion -
Behemoth & Leviathan

^I don't think Green Lantern at SFMM is el cheapo, it is built by Intamin and is first of its kind in North America. SFMM reinvented Superman, added a coaster both kids and adults can ride, and gave us a totally new ride experience all in one year so I'm not complaining. Now back to the subject, while their not coasters, remember when Disneyland used to have two different Autopias? Fantasyland Autopia and Tomorrowland Autopia were separate Autopias before they were merged to form one longer Autopia. Two other very similar rides at Disneyland are Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Astro Orbitor. While they are themed differently and are in different lands, they are essentially the same exact ride experience. Back before Disneyland redid Tomorrowland in the mid 90s, they had Rocket Jets instead of Astro Orbitor which was the same type of ride but placed much higher in the sky which gave a much different (and more thrilling) ride experience. Rocket Jets actually made you feel like you were in the air, but Astro Orbitor being on the lowest elevation of Tomorrowland, not so much. -

Okay, how did you get all that alcohol into Canada for the International Drink Exchange? I'm assuming you guys bought it in the states and not in Canada where they tax alcohol heavily. Do they not bother searching tour buses like they search cars? When I crossed into BC from WA last November with my car with CA plates they did full cavity search of my car though they only confiscated a single apple (I didn't have alcohol in my car though). On another note was La Ronde the last day of the NE trip before Road to Cedar Point or is their more to come? I'm digging all the pics and videos so far and the drunkeness of TPR's newest star, Piers -
