Photo: TR Holiday World Media Day
errtyme replied to coasterdave's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Well, so I'm a little late on this bandwagon (although I did write a non-photo TR on Holiday World yesterday) but to add to the general thought, Voyage IS worth every ounce of the hype. Like I said in mine, it seems to me to be the best wooden in the world without much competition. The ride is absolutely amazing. -
Good to hear you had a good time, read my TR? (it's a little below this one) Voyage owns eh? I'm sure I passed by you sometime in the park. Khaki pants, black hoody, jack daniels hat, ring a bell? Either way, when I walked up and saw the sign that said Voyage would be closed I about lost it too! When I asked the lady though she said it was merely opening late and by the time I got off Raven and Legend they had already ran a train or two. Gobbler Getaway did open though later in the day, you get a ride on it? I came down from Champaign, guess you had be beat there on the driving time, sept I made the drive in the morning and drove back at night

If you could BUY one Coaster...
errtyme replied to l3ite_me1313's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well Laura, if you're reading this you took the words right outta my mouth! I'd love to take home Screamin Eagle. My first ride and well, have to represent for that. I'd love to say Millennium Force but for some reason I think putting that in my back yard would take a certain "hard to get" quality (I live a long ways away) from it, so I would have to say Magnum; I can't ever see that coaster getting old for me. If not those two I would have to say Thunder Run (SFKK) or PowderKeg (SDC) -
This is going to be short and sweet, mainly because I have no pictures and am still super tired. It's a five hour drive, one way, for me to get there but after hearing about Voyage I had to go. Pulled up to an empty parking lot and about 7 buses....Holiday World Music Festival was going on. It was my first visit to the park and the woman at the ticket booth told me that Voyage would not open until later, so I headed off to some other rides... Raven: When I pulled up and saw the "Number 1 wooden in the world" sign I had high expectations, and I must say they were not met. After my first ride I felt the sign had very little truth although throughout the day my initial impression vanished. After multiple rides in multiple seats I began to see what the hype was all about. Short and fast, through the woods, decent airtime in the first half...and it had a certain "something" about it that only great coasters have....infact I still can't really put my finher on it. I still don't see it as my personal favorite woody, but I was certainly very happy. Legend: Another sign showing as the number 7 coaster in the world...would my first impression be the same as Raven? Well after my first ride I could tell the coaster had some very powerful elements. I didn't experience many negative g's but, as the day went on ,and more rides were under my belt, I liked it more and more just as I did Raven. The ride was strong, very fast...my personal number 7? Well, I just don't know...nonetheless, as before, I became more and more happy with it throughout the day. ....and now for what I'm sure a lot of people are curious about.... VOYAGE: Well I'm about positive I'll get a lot of negative response from this comment, and I suppose that's fine; after all, coasters are all about personal preference...BUT...I personally thing that Holiday World just built the best wooden in the world. This ride is an airtime machine with more elements than any other coaster (including steel) that I have been on. The tunnels are perfect. EVERY possible place for a small hill to add that pop of airtime into a turn, helix, tunnel....it's there. By the end of the ride you are out of breath and before you know it you are running around the station to get back in line. The ride feels faster than it is and keeps its pace even after the short trims. I assure you folks, this coaster is worth every ounce of hype it has. This ride is only going to get better with time. Some trees need to grow back, and some things need to be finished on the ride cosmetically, but nonetheless, what other park would open a ride a little less that fully done JUST to give their park goers that extra thrill? MUCH respect goes to Holiday World for doing everything in their power to make their park as exciting as possible. It being my first time to the park I was extremely pleased that I finally got to experience this awesome place and these awesome rides. I rode a couple flats, spent WAY too much money on food, and got multiple rides on each of their coasters...I enjoyed myself on a whole other level that I havn't experienced since my first visit to IB or CP. For those of you who have not visited, or are thinking about returning to get on Voyage, DO SO!!! The coaster alone is worth it, and Raven, Legend, and an amazing park atmosphere make it more than an amazing trip.

Photo TR: SFGAM Opening Weekend
errtyme replied to ...coasters...'s topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
All these people from the same town as me...strange.... Too bad I didn't think to head up there. To be honest everytime I got to SFGAm I have a horrible time, guess I need to go in the rain... -

That looks like a very cool park. For a family coaster that looked pretty cool as well. -
Names you've mispronounced

^^^^^ Hahahahahaha!!!! -
Good point...I suppose with all the hype about other steel coasters and whatnot why would any chain want to take care of a woody. ....wow...that's sad to read...
-
Strange but you make a good point..I never thought of it. From what I've heard rides like Ghostrider (which used to be considered the best) and Gwazi (which I've heard has become rough) are going by the wayside...and both of those were on a lot of peoples top ten lists not but a few years ago.... I mean, I think we all knew that people like John Allen knew something the rest of the world didn't (seeing as his coasters back then were mind bogling, and are still considered good even by todays standards) but honestly...is it impossible? I know grant it, the majority of newer woodies are still good to this day and will be for a long amount of time but it seems as if these newer woodies are going from "GREAT" to "eh" in a rapid amount of time.

What flat ride makes you feel sick the most?
errtyme replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Spinning tea cups....no way... Xcalibur at SFStL puts some pressure on my head but, I still like the ride. ..I can ride anything except those darn tea cups... -
What's your favorite Flat ride?
errtyme replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Double Shot at IB, swinging ships and falling stars (and whoever said the swinging ship over water, amen brother!) Also, I'm not sure who considers log flumes as flat rides, or simply water rides, but regardless I am a flume addict. Xcalibur at SFStL, Power Tower at CP, Hellavator at SFKK -
Overrated coasters in your opinion
errtyme replied to Deadromanticx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow..good topic... I have to start out by saying I LOVED both Millennium Force AND Magnum XL200....That has nothing to do with anything, just figured I'd say. Anyways, on to business, Viper at SFGAm is horrible to me. I've heard a lot of people say that it's vastly underrated but...I've ridden it probably 10 times and had an absolutely horrible, airtimeless rides...and thats in a variety of different seats. Some others: Raging Bull, Chang, any of the S:UF...I'm sure there are a few others but, eh..no biggie. -
Yeah, even though this is a bit off topic, I've been DYING to ride Zingo..if everything works out this year will be the year! Hope to see it standing tall!

I don't post on here nearly as much as I browse but I love this topic. Indiana Beach is AMAZING. Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane are out of control and the boardwalk along with the fair-type attractions and things going on on the lake are breathtaking to me...not to mention the food is outstanding! My other is Silver Dollar City. I know it has a lot of land, but really does not have many rides but the park is awesome. Everyone dressed up and the food is incredible. They also have Powderkeg which was, for me, the best coaster I rode in 2005. I still need to go back to visit CC.

Have you ever gone to a park alone?
errtyme replied to arlen23's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never gone alone but to be honest I would like to. Since I'm atleast 2 hours from the nearest park (and over three past that) the only thing I don't think I'd like is the drive by myself...just gets a bit boring. -
Personally I can't either. I play in a band and have to coordinate my shows with park schedules, it get pretty interesting.... Either way, I havn't been there for years and can't wait to get back.
-
Personally I'm a huge fan of SFStL. I've been going there every year for over a decade and I love the atmosphere as well...especially close to the fall months. I liked SFMM when I went but...SFStL still takes the cake for me.

Retro TR: Branson USA/SDC 2001 Trip!
errtyme replied to coaster1's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Yeah it's real cool to see these. I actually wanted to make the same trip, only problem was I only had so many days off work and one place to stay (with the old man in Springfield, MO) so it ended up only being SDC and WOF thanks to CC being closed...blah! Clay "will be making that trip again!" Lamanske -
