Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
MrSum1_55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In the simulations, this ride did not look very intense; it almost looked like something I would expect from B&M. Now that I can actually see it in person, this seriously looks like it could be a top ten ride! Edit: This summer, I was hoping on visiting KD and Dollywood. However, with how awesome Levi and Skyrush are looking, I might just change to my potential plans. -
Did Summers/Dinn make ANY good coasters?
MrSum1_55 replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Charles Dinn refurbished Phoenix. All is forgiven! Seriously, pretty much all Charles Dinn coasters were good for their time. However, many of them have since been trimmed and maintained poorly. Some exceptions are: Grizzly (KD)-It has been maintained quite poorly, and is very rough. However, it has a very exciting layout, with a good amount of airtime Grizzly (CGA)-While it may be Dinn's weakest coaster, it is probably his best maintained. Aside from a bad slam onto the second turnaround, CGA has done a good job retracking this. It seems ironic, though, that the one Cedar Fair wood coaster that is getting the attention it needs is perhaps the most boring wood coaster Wolverine Wildcat- Never ridden it, but I have heard it is one on Dinn's smoothest coasters. Georgia Cyclone-Looks fairly rough, but seems to have a pretty exciting layout Examples of Dinn rides gone bad: Beast- How is this piece of crap still one of the best wood coasters in the world? There is now more trimming on this thing than a hair salon, and it is very rough. People who keep ranking it so high must be the people who have only ridden at night. It really is an amazing ride at night, but, even then, still needs a retrack. Mean Streak- Instead of maintaining their rides properly, Cedar Fair loves to add trim brakes to rides that do not reduce roughness, only forces. From a distance, you can see the effect the trims add to the drop. However, if you sit in the back, you can actually feel some airtime in some of the spots where it used to be present (I would not recommend this, unless you really want a slightly better idea of what the ride was like before the trims). Hercules-See above Old Texas Giant (although not Cedar Fair) see above Predator- Needs some love -
Didn't Green Lantern have one, at least over the summer? I am almost positive I heard that it did. And these people I have heard it from were not you average jeeps, it is unlikely they were confusing the ride for Riddler's Revenge. Also, I do believe Viper occasionally has one. However, the time I did see the sign, there was no line, with empty rows being sent out on every cycle.

So, are the entries due today at noon or midnight? In other words, will I have time to send it to someone else? -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
MrSum1_55 replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One reason why I believe Vekoma never improved their SLC's was enough parks were willing to buy them. You can price a flash game at $2,000, and, as long as there is an idiot willing to buy it, it will get sold. With SLC's, small parks were in need of a star attraction, and Vekoma offered a cheap one for them. Now, while I do wonder why they did little to make them better over time, the only thing that matters is that they created a design that some parks are willing to buy. Besides, more SLC's have been sold than B&M inverts. -
^Ninja. Too easy. Racer (KI) or Gemini?

I have only visited the park ONE time where the thirld train actually did make a difference. Other than that, it made no difference. In fact, the first time I saw them add the third train, it was simply a waste of time, as it took 15 minutes just to be able to add on the third train, and, at the end of the ride, I sat on the two final block brakes for about a total of nearly 3.5 minutes. So, adding on the thrid train actually wasted 18.5 minutes of my life, while costing the park money. Spend more money to slow down lines. Yup, that's Six Flags!

You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....
MrSum1_55 replied to PCW_Nut's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Whenever you do a report on a place somewhere else in the world, you HAVE to include a park from the area, if there are any. (Guilty, PortAdventura, Spain) -
Your Park "To Do List"
MrSum1_55 replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IOA: -Actually care about the park outside Wizarding World SFDK: -Plant more trees in the front of the park -Find ways to better motivate staff -Add a drop tower -Add the new Vekoma trains to Boomerang and Kong SFMM: -Purchase an extra train on Tatsu, RR and Apoc (unlikely to happen) -Increase size of Tatsu crew, and better motivate crews around the park CGA: -Add SOMETHING new Also, one dream of mine would be to see Knoebels roughly recreate the Crystal Beach Cyclone. An exact recreation would be next to impossible, but they could keep the general layout while staying with the usual intensity of today's wood coasters. -
^Actually foundation or not, it doesn't matter. All Chuck Norris has to do is roundhouse kick the ride to Mexico. Geauga Lake never closed due to lack of attendance, Chuck Norris just didn't like it. So, he covered X-Flight's track in the blood of his victims, and roundhouse kicked all the rides in the park in random directions. They all landed in other Cedar Fair parks. However, Teh Big Dipper's wood was too unstable to handle a Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick, so it was left to rot.

Hell, even Grizzly east makes Grizzly west look smooth. Cedar Fair has many wood coasters that need the topper track, and Grizzly west is not one of them. Mean Streak, Ghostrider, Grizzly east, the Hurler clones, Wild Beast, Minebuster, and (the SBNO) SOB are all rougher than CGA's Grizzly, and all of these rides could really use topper track (and the NTAG treatment for the last one). Actually, if I were to rank my wood coasters from smoothest to roughest, my list would be El Toro>Apocolator>Lightning Racer>Phoenix>Grizzly> all the others I have ridden. I would put Grizzly ahead of Phoenix in thems of smoothness if the trains weren't so uncomfortable. If Grizzly were removed today, I doubt many people on these forums would miss it. However, the waits are generally quite long, sometimes almost as long as Flight Deck. Grizzly isn't going anywhere. I do believe it could use some new trains, as any pain you can get on the ride mainly comes from the trains and not really the actual roughness. ^Four friends and I decided to ride Mean Streak in the back 3 rows, just to say we did it. It was worth it.

TPR Challenge - We have a WINNER!

^Will there be a moderater's choice for this contest as well? -
When you are talking about your weekend, and someone interrupts you mid-sentance. They then proceed to talk about their weekend. Or, you try to have a developed political conversation, and someone interrupts you to talk about something like who can fart the loudest, etc. SFDK employees. No matter how many ride ops management assigns to a ride, dispatch rates can never really speed up. On a coaster, keeping two stations open on a ride running two trains (usually a low capacity one, like a flyer). The reason this makes no sense is that crews double in size, but dispatches are not sped up by that much. For example, Tatsu, instead of running two stations, with 4 ride ops at each (two at the controls, two checking restraints), how about one crew with six ride ops checking restraints?

In the FD area, there MIGHT be possibility of another coaster going there, if, and only if, that other ride is a B&M filled with sand AND Flight Deck also fills its supports with sand. Then, the noise level might be the same as before, allowing complaining levels to drop. I am somewhat surprised no one even brought this up, but what about the Boomerang Bay area? They were able to build one large coaster there before with little to no noise complaints. If they were to build another over there, it would requre some creativity, but it could be done. If it did, they could probably get away with that one with minimal complaints as well.

Premier Parks Management

On the new season of Ghost Adventures, the crew investigates the abandoned California's Great America amusment park. It was said that the park was cursed by a boy who died on one of the coasters. He posessed the neighbors around the park, causing them to complain whenever the park would try to build a new coaster. Warning: This episode will be the scariest yet; even scarier than SFDK's operations!

What is the worst Theme Park in the world?
MrSum1_55 replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In terms of permanent parks, SFDK probably has to be the worst-all around park I've been to. While definitely not the worst park in every area, pretty much everything about the park just seems mediocre. SFDK has mediocre: Staff Food Operations Cleanliness Layout Theming/Landscaping (The front of the park looks like a carnival) Coasters (Really needs an intense coaster) Even though I have to drive an extra 90 minutes to get to CGA, I would rather SFDK close. Apparently, the wrong park is under threat of closure. -
2011.. What was your highlight?
MrSum1_55 replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After CGA built Invertigarden, I was lucky enough to be able to make my way over to Kings Island. So, this year, I was able to ride two clones/similar models of rides formerly at CGA. (Invertigo, Stealth/Firehawk) Yeah, the two Vekoma rides were the highlight of the day. Also, going to six parks I had never been to before was a major plus. My credits went from under 80 to nearly 130. (Thank god for this one!) Ghostrider is no longer my top woodie! Now I don't have to take a beating to get my ejector airtime. (Well, its still my top woodie on the west coast, so I guess I could take a few more beatings) I finally got to ride a B&M hyper! Two, in fact. Diamondback and Nitro. It was a sensation I had been looking forward to for a long time. Now that I have ridden two, I can shrug my shoulders and move on. And now...the ultimate highlight! I got lost on the Jersey Turnpike for 3 1/2 hours from 12am-3:30am! Then, I arrived at Great Adventure the next day to find out that they decided to close due to rain. I guess I lived National Lampoon's Vacation! I did make it in the gates just over a week later, but I had to cancel a day at BGE to be able to experience this park. Four words: JERSEY TURNPIKE SIGNAGE SUCKS!!! I should have known to get a GPS...
