Most underated woodies
Red Benny replied to Coasterkid20's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Another vote here for the Giant Dipper at the SCBB. It was the first woodie I ever rode, and I must say I was spoiled. It has a perfect layout, plenty of speed, plenty of nice surprises, and I especially like the drop out of the station.. not to mention that it's incredibly smooth. I was under the impression that ALL wooden roller coasters were that good. Boy was I wrong. -
Best Park Fireworks
Red Benny replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Definetely Epcot. Though riding the Matterhorn at Disneyland during the fireworks is pretty damn cool too. -
DLR Hotel questions...
Red Benny replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I'm going to both parks. I was planning to get there Wednesday around 1pm, and stay through closing Friday night. I figure it'll be less crowded during the week. I was a bit bummed they closed so early, but I figure I'll have plenty of time. 9am - 7pm is 10 hours. As much as I love Disneyland.. I think that's about all I can handle. So, I'll have roughly 2 1/2 days to hit both parks.. it should be plenty of time. What rides in CA Adventure have long lines? I've been to Disneyland so many times that I know a pattern to ride all the big rides in around 4 hours, sometimes some of them twice. -
DLR Hotel questions...
Red Benny replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One more question.. do you still get into the parks an hour earlier if you stay at the resort? That would be ideal since I'm going during the week and the park closes at 7pm -
DLR Hotel questions...
Red Benny replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Perfect! I was a little worried because the DLR website says the Grand Californian is the only hotel with direct access to the parks and the Paradise Pier looked pretty far away from everything. Out of curiosity.. where does the monorail stop now? Last time I was there California Adventure was nothing more than a parking lot. -
Forcing doesn't always work. When I was growing up my family went to Disneyland once a year. When I was 4 I believe they took me on the Matterhorn. I was too young to know what it was, but it definetely implanted a gut fear of roller coasters into me. Not because of the coaster, but because of the monsters inside the ride. A few years later they forced me onto Space Mountain, and I didn't like it. At one point we took a trip to Magic Mountain and the whole time my parents told me I had to go on all the ride.. but I wouldn't. The more I was forced the more I didn't want to, and the more I didn't enjoy them if I did. It wasn't until I was 15 that I started going on the more scary rides at Disneyland. I had opened up a little, but about the most thrilling ride I liked was the Giant Dipper at the SCBB.. and even that scared the crap out of me. I don't know what happened, but last year I went to PGA with my family and I wanted to ride the coasters all of a sudden. After each coaster I swore that I wouldn't go on anymore, but I ended up going on every coaster in the park. Now I'm hooked (though there are still a few rides I won't go on... yet.) I guess my point is that a good degree of forcing can work, but force too hard and the kid will shut down. With me I think the scariest part of the Matterhorn when I was a kid was that it was in the dark for the lift, and I was DEATHLY afraid of the dark when I was that little

When I go to Disneyland in April I'm staying at one of the resort hotels. Since I grew up in CA this will be the first time I've stayed in one. I was planning on the Paradise Pier Hotel, but now that I look at a map I'm wondering how close it is to the resort. Is it easy to get to and from the parks? ..or does it take a while? Obviously the Grand Californian is the best choice since it's in California Adventure, but I don't know if I can afford it. To those who have been to one or all of the hotels.. what are the pros and cons? ..and what hotel should I stay in?

Best Theme Park Food
Red Benny replied to ChrisZer0's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Japanese restaurant in Epcot was amazing, though I don't remember it all that well since I went over 10 years ago. The best I've had would have to be the Blue Bayou at Disneyland (the restaurant inside Pirates). I always make sure I eat there once per trip. -
Silliest coaster ever ?
Red Benny replied to nemesis-storm's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree! That coaster confused the hell out of me. Granted it's pretty much a kiddy coaster, but still, it's all lift hill. There are some good arrow mine trains, but why anyone bothered to build this ride, let alone transfer it to another park is just baffling beyond belief. -
What coasters do you want to ride?
Red Benny replied to CoasterCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are tons I want to ride, but theses are the ones that really stick out... - California Screamin' (I will in April!) - Millenium Force - Medusa (SFGadv) - Boulder Dash - Hulk - Dueling Dragons - Alpengeist -
My favorite band is the Dave Matthews Band.. as for favorite song, there are simply too many to name

Backyard Rides
Red Benny replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember seeing a story on the news about that coaster. I would love to ride it, but it's probably about as safe as the Crystal Beach Cyclone ..lol. Something a little different. Not a coaster, but funny.. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/redneckrollercoaster.html -
What parks have you visited?
Red Benny replied to Nicolas -TRZ-'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
mine is seriously lacking... Disneyland Knotts Berry Farm Six Flags Magic Mountain Universal Studios Hollywood Santa Cruz Boardwalk Paramounts Great America Magic Kingdom Epcot Center MGM Studios Great Escape Six Flags New England MGM Grand Adventures (if you could even call that a park) -
Parks that let you down!
Red Benny replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
MGM Studios. Granted I went before Tower of Terror and the Rock and Roll coaster were built. There really wasn't a whole lot in the park back then (over 10 years ago). After going on Star Tours, seeing the Indiana Jones show, and going on the tram ride, I was done.. all in 2 hours. I spent 4 days at WDW and only went to MGM once. I'm glad that they've improved the park dramatically, I can't wait to go back next time I'm in FL. -
The Great Escape (TGE) Discussion Thread
Red Benny replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like I really hit a nerve here. I'm not saying it's a bad park, it just needs a lot cleaning. You're right, they do need to clean the indoor coaster queue. Last time I tried to go on that ride they closed it down because there was a racoon on the track. The Storybook Land looked as if it hadn't been cleaned all season. When it started to rain they closed down the pony ride and left the pony attached to the ride.. just standing in the rain. The Jungle Land walk through had all brown water and half the bridges were shut down. Honestly I love the park, the rides are great, I would just like to see more.. even if not a new ride, something to boost attendence. Maybe I went on an off day, but in my oppinion the park is really in disrepair. -
The Great Escape (TGE) Discussion Thread
Red Benny replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't get me wrong, I love the comet, but to me the park is just lacking. I guess I should say it could be so much better. They have a wonderful location that they just don't take enough advantage of. Hopefully the new kids section will improve the overall look of the park. I would actually prefer they polish the park a little instead of adding new coaster. But, if they were to add a new coaster.. there's a good chunk of land beyond Alpine Bobsled that's just asking for a B&M invert, unless that's where the new kids area is. But I can dream -
Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at The Great Escape, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. There is so much open space they could build on around the entire park it's a surprise that they can't even put in a Batman clone or something. The only coasters they've ever installed have been hand-me-downs. If it wasn't for The Comet, there wouldn't be much reason to go to the park unless you have little kids (and I mean little kids). edit: ok, maybe it's not ghetto, but I still think a lot of work needs to be done to make it a better park.

WHo would ride the Crystal Beach Cyclone
Red Benny replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know if I would ride it. I love coasters and all, but a coaster that has the risk of bodily injury isn't that thrilling of an idea to me. I'm sure with modern technology they could clone the ride without making it as dangerous. -
RCT4?
Red Benny replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Improve the onride graphics. I was very excited about RCT3 until I played the demo. How a simple program like NoLimits can have better graphics than RCT3 is beyond me. If I'm gonna ride my own coaster, I at least want them to look real. And you're right.. no catwalks on the lift hills is just weird. :?
