  1. I didn't mind them on Storm Runner. They made me feel very secure while at the same time giving you a good feel of freedom. I wish all looping coasters had those kind of OSTRs. The only downside is that they can be a little rough. I think Intamin needs to make them a little softer so they don't bang your neck so much. I don't think they should be used on a coaster like Superman that doesn't go upside down. That seems very redundant.
  2. Another entry... The Caber Toss Experience!
  3. With all the talk a few years ago about changing Star Tours to fit in more with the prequels, I couldn't resist. This is a version of Star Tours I would love to ride!
  4. How is it built any different from normal woodies? I'm not trying to argue, I really just don't know.
  5. Out of curiosity, why do some people think that Intamin woodies aren't "real" woodies? The only real answer I've been able to pick up is that they are too smooth for a woodie. With all due respect that's about as stupid as calling a steel coaster a woodie becuase it's too rough for a steel coaster. I mean no disrespect, but is there more to the argument than that? ..or is it simply a matter of preference?
  6. You know, I was thinking the same thing when I was there in July. That park is great already, but has so much potential to be something more. It's probably one of the nicest parks other than a Disney or Universal park that I've been to. My only gripe is how spread out it is. It'd take you a good half hour to walk from Great Bear to Lightening Racer. If they were to do any upgrades, stretching the monorail throughout the park would be a good change.
  7. I may be a little uninformed, but why is CA Screamin closed? Does it have anything to do with the train derailment that happened a couple months ago? I disagree about it being the only major ride though. I have plenty of fun there, and I would without the ride. It's not meant to be a coaster park, it's not meant to be Disneyland, and it's not meant to be IOA. It's geared more towards adults, and I wouldn't change a thing about it. A lot of people don't understand that a park can be great without a lot of great coasters. And it is a nice change of pace when DL is packed and California Adventure is next to empty.
  8. Wow... this looks so good that I might have to buy NoLimits just to try it out.
  9. The LA Times posted their version of the article today. It's geared more towards the implications to SFMM. Interestingly enough, they got a quote from Robb! (It's all the way at the bottom). http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-sixflags26aug26,1,3106700.story?coll=la-headlines-business&ctrack=1&cset=true
  10. I know it hasn't been confirmed, but I had heard that the Cars attraction is simply going to be a new overlay to Autopia. That would make sense. It would be a cheap and easy way to make a popular ride even more popular. Honestly, I'm excited about the new submarine ride. Not that the submarine voyage was anything special.. I would just rather see them put something there rather than leaving is empty as they have for the past 7 years.
  11. There were plans to make a 700ft coaster off the side of the Stratosphere. You could hardly call it a coaster though, it was more of a really tall drop ride that curved over the strip in a fishhook shape. I don't know the specifics, but I believe the city voted it down either because it was too loud, or it was an eyesore. There are pictures of it here... http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/new2002.html
  12. I figured Great Adventure would have longer lines, but that's just insane. I got a gold qbot for SFNE and the longest I had to wait was 10 minutes for Superman. Most of the time on Batman I didn't have to wait at all. It's a nice feature and all, but I can't imagine paying $70 extra dollars just to cut my wait times down to a half an hour.
  13. ahhh.. PGA, The Boardwalk, the Hollister Independence Rally.. makes me feel homesick. I moved away from that area just about a year ago. I'm bummed I can't go to the rally this year, and even more bummed I'm missing Mike Gordon and Leo Kottke! Have fun!
  14. I'm going to agree with everyone else.. they're just too rough. Boomerangs aren't bad rides, but they get old after you see them at every park. SLCs scare me, they always feel like the car is going to fly off the track. Strangely enough though, Invertigo at PGA is fairly smooth.
  15. Best: Star Tours, Indiana Jones, Roger Rabbit, Muppet Vision 3-D (all from DLR). Worst: I don't know if I would include a lot of those mentioned above. I don't think a ride with no themeing at all can have the worst theming. I would consider a ride that attempted to theme, but only failed miserably to be the worst. Take Soarin' at DCA for example. Once you finally get inside all you get is a hallway with a bunch of flags and plaques that you could see in any aviation museum. For such a great ride, it has a terrible queue, Disney is capable of so much better. Absolute hell:Being in the back of a 90 minute wait for CA Screamin' only to find they just lost a train.
  16. I'm trying to plan a trip to a park in the PA/NJ area. Since I moved out here from CA I've only been to Great Escape and SFNE. The thing is, I'm driving from upstate NY, so I only have time to hit one park. I would like to avoid SFGadv because of Kingda Ka. I can only imagine how bad that park will be. I'm thinking of either Hersheypark, Kennywood, or Dorney Park. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which park I should go to?
  17. I went to the Bowers too recently after a three day stint at DLR. It's a very nice museum and very convienent being only a few exits south of Disneyland. The exhibit they have right now is really neat. It's all about mummies and Egyptian burial art. They have a few mummies that they do MRI scans on so you can see all the details on the inside without having to open them up. My only complaint is that there isn't much to it. We spent about 2 hours there.. but it's worth checking out, especially if you're in the Disneyland area and have some time to kill. It's funny, my vacation videos are almost the same. After a bunch of DCA, we walk up to the entrance of Bowers only to turn right back around. Damn no camera rule.
  18. I don't think I've ever seen the Matterhorn at Disneyland race, and I've been going there all my life. The ride ops always seem to rush the trains out even though the lines are never really that long. It's too bad, I imagine it would make the ride that much more fun.
  19. I don't know if this is the same for WDW, but if you book your vacation for Disneyland through AAA you get a preferred fastpass. It allows you to get a fastpass to every ride you want, without having to wait another 2 hours to get another ride. The nice thing is, booking your vacation through AAA costs the exact same ammount as booking it through DLR. Though I'm sure this will change with the new rules. I personally love it. When you go to the resort you pay for the experience, not just the rides. I'm not saying everyone should stay at the expensive resorts, but to me it's worth the money. The way I look at it, you're already paying enough money even to stay at the value resorts, saving up a few hundred more to stay at nicer resort is money well spent, especially now that you get more perks.
  20. For a second I seriously thought you meant Pee Wee was taking coaster pics (weird mental image). Is he the old guy they always have riding coasters on the Travel channel?
  21. Actually, ToT is the only ride they won't let you tape on at DLR (other than the shows). The ride ops on Screamin' actually encouraged me to tape after I started putting my camera away. That ride is so much better at night.
  22. Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at the Disneyland Resort, including Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of these park as well as past updates, see TPR's Disneyland Park Park Index Page and TPR's Disney California Adventure Park Index Page. Ride at DCA. They're building it in the old Superstar Limo building. I stayed at the park for 3 days and didn't take a picture of the outside once. So far... the outside looks the same. They've stripped off the old paint and began to repaint the outside using the same facade. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures, but imagine the beginning to the Monsters Inc. movie. The outside of the queue looks like the openening credits with the snake and the title credits. Another ride I got very close to without any real proof was the new Finding Nemo ride that's taking over the old Submarine ride place. There was a lot of construction going on all over tomorrowland, but you could get a good view if you rode the monorail. To anyone who visits any DLR forums this might be old news, just thought I would share to those who won't be able to go until after May 5th. I'm sure all the new rides will be "officialy" announced then
  23. Easy. I felt very unsafe at the Hurricane at the SCBB. It's not a fast little coaster, but I don't like the feeling of being 40 feet up in the air and feeling like the train is going to flip off the tracks. Ehhhh. I would say that Muholland Madness at DCA is a close second, but that's only because I HATE wild mouse rides.
  24. ^Videos don't do that ride justice at all. There's so much going on in the queue, and so many details in the ride you just can't capture. Still, a video is better than nothing Doesn't DisneySeas have an Indy ride? I'm curious how similiar it is to DLR's. If it isn't they could always clone that one. I like the idea of a raging spirts coaster though. Even better, they could possibly mix the technology of Spiderman and a roller coaster. Imagine riding in an out of control mine cart where you feel like you're going to plummet into a river of running lava.
  25. Well, it's not Florida, but there are strong rumors that they're converting Superstar Limo at Disneyland into a Monsters Inc. ride. I would imagine WDW would get a clone eventually, since that's what Disney's imagineers seem to be doing a lot lately
