  1. To me, it got to be any seat in the odd number row of the coaster train because they have extra leg room for my long legs. The even number rows force my knees to buckle up against the back of the row in front. The front row has all the leg room I need, so I try to ride up front.
  2. Thanks for the classic pictures of Geauga Lake. I first went there in 1999 when it was Six Flags over Ohio, then a year later when it was renamed Six Flags World of Adventure. My last time was in 2005 when Cedar Point took over and renamed it Geauga Lake once more. That last visit could've been considered a sad-event-yet-to-come because the park was nearly deserted. Little did I know that three rides from that park would be transferred to Kings Dominion: Dominator, Americana, and another ride in which I cannot remember what it was called, but it sucked mud water and I'm glad they put Windseeker in it's place. But it's still sad that Villian, Double Looper, and The Big Dipper couldn't be transferred.
  3. Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy . . . Reading the news on Screamscape got me excited to know that Kentucky Kingdom will reopen next season, so I still wish Ed Hart the very best to get this park up and running well. It might be several years for me to visit that park ( if I have the urge to travel Interstate 64 west on my way to St. Louis ), but I'm hoping by that time the park will have some new attractions, T2 has been reviewed as a great ride, and everybody is going crazy about how wild the brand new Twisted Twin coaster is. I did forget about Deluge, their water coaster, but I didn't forget about the Roller Skater. "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!"
  4. ^ From past experiences and what I know about Six Flags America, when something is broke down, it usually takes a long time before they can fix it and get it running again. And if a ride is a constant maintenance nightmare ( such as Two Face, The Octopus, and Iron Eagle), then the park would get rid of it and won't replace it with something else. Hopefully, this won't be the case with Roar, but this is Six Flags America . . . "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!"
  5. To me, it was the sound of the train being pulled up the lift hill on Son of Beast. It had that angry roar caused by the anti-rollback system. I guess I won't be hearing that sound anymore.
  6. After watching that video, I have a few points I like to make: - Doggone that lift hill is soooo . . . slow! - That's it? A slow lift hill, a circular loop, a little dip, and nothing else? Well, it may not be much to those that have ridden tons of killer coasters here in the USA, but the coaster does run and any coaster that runs is much better than any coaster that doesn't run. - Looping Star at Jolly Rogers Piers located at Ocean City , Maryland has this ride beat hands down! "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!
  7. ^I have to agree that it's great news, plus knowing that I won't GET BURNT AGAIN by promises that they'll open a park and either have it fail again or not even opened on time. Come On, Ed Hart; all the riders and amusement park flyers are counting on you to get Kentucky Kingdom open and running again. I'm sure there will be tons of kiddies that want to ride THE ROLLER SKATER!!![/color] "WE WANNA RIDE, WE WANNA RIDE!!!
  8. ^I have to agree with you on this one. I hope that more parks will add this type of ride to their water park side ( or another ride like Mammoth ). I tell you, rides like that make you feel happy to be living at this day and age. Who knows what else they would come up with? "This is probably where all good ideas got their start."
  9. If this park does open, it will be like a small park. Most riders and amusement aprk flyers seem to forget that all major theme parks began their lives as a small park. When Kings Dominion first opened up in 1974, the only three attractions they had at the time were the Monorail for their African Safari, the Scooby Doo Roller Ghoster, and a center to display the upcoming attractions in 1975. Today, Kings Dominion got more rides than you can shake a stick at. In other words, for Kentucky Kingdom to get back to the park it once was will take many seasons and a lot of $$$! One way for this park to grow up will be tons of visitors coming into its park year after year. I still wish Ed Hart to best of luck to get this park off the ground and back onto its feet again. BY the way, Midgetman82, many thanks for the pictures showing that the Roller Skater is still standing. All they need to do is clear away the weeds, grease up the wheels, repaint the track, run some tests, and it'll be all systems go! "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!"
  10. ^I remember a few years ago when those that had the gold passes could enter the water park earlier than the rest of the visitors. Plus, there were early ride times on Volcano. But this was when Kings Dominion was known as Paramount's Kings Dominion and it's a pity that Cedar Fair won't reinstate that priviledge for the Gold and Platinum pass holders inside Kings Dominion. There is another discussion I would like to bring up: Kings Dominion has this tradition of introducting a new ride or attraction every year. Since Planet Snoopy is considered a major attraction ( and a much needed one to boot ), it might be in 2015 before another major attraction comes our way. So what do you think Kings Dominion might do next season that will be minor, but will draw crowds? Here is my speculation: First, take out Wave Swinger and put a brand new type of flat ride that will fit comfortablely in its place. One ride I believe would be perfect is a ride by Chance called "Freestyle" - ( http://www.chancerides.com/rides/freestyle.html ). Then how about adding another ride to Planet Snoopy called "Sally's Swingset"? Dorney Park has one. Then finally, add another showplace in the Congo area ( Kings Dominion could use another showplace). Those additions would be great in the next season, but this is just speculation and I have no idea what Kings Dominion would do. How do the rest of you Kings Dominion lovers out there feel? 35 YEARS OF VISITING kINGS dOMINION - AND STILL COUNTING!!!
  11. I would like to add more to this discussion and I will try to insure that I have all my facts in order. Another new trend that I hope I'll see more of is the development of the water coaster. Master Blaster from Schilitterbahn was the first water slide of its type that had hills you travel up and down before you splashdown into a pool. As great and groundbreaking this slide was, you still had to climb a set of stairs in order to ride it, just like any other water slide. The new phase in the evolution of the water coaster had to be Wilderbeest from Holiday World. You didn't need to climb any stairs to get to the top of the tower to ride this ride because the layout was a closed circuit. It had a station to place riders on and another station for the riders to exit. The success of this attraction lead to Mammoth which is a different sort of water coaster, yet it follows the same principles of Wilderbeest. One more type of coaster is both a steel and water coaster. Imagine a ride that is part coaster and part log flume. I do know that they exist, but I don't know of any by name or what park they're from. I think Sea World has a coaster of this type. But I said this before and I'll say it again: "When the designers and engineers stop dreaming, then that's when the evolution of roller coasters will stop evolving."
  12. Six years ago, I visited Lake Winnie as stop#1 during my Pigeon Forge/Gatlinsburg/Cherokee trip. I got $10 off because I came during mid August and they were running a "Back-to-School" special. The park was small, but it was big on thrills. Now with the "Soakya" expansion, I can see more and more visitors coming with each passing season. The train will definately be more popular because it's status has changed from being an attraction you rode once around the park to an attraction that will transport guests, that don't want to walk all the way, to and from Soakya. In one picture, it showed sites for possible expansions. Maybe Lake Winnie will finally get a giant steel coaster or get their very own water coaster? Who knows? "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride"
  13. Well, according to the reports, at least I can tell that something is going on in that park. I did see pictures of the Roller Skater trains, but what about the track? Is it still there? Am I the only one who cares too much about the Roller Skater? I do know that they had a great carrousel that included bench seats that rocked back and forth, and my favorite type of flat ride that was called "The Flying Dutchman". Are those two rides still inside the park? Well, they've got less than a year to reopen this park, and should I find this park to be a "must-visit-or die" attraction, then I might consider revamping next year's summer plan and go to Kentucky. Otherwise, I won't be singing "Blue Moon of Kentucky" nor "My Old Kentucky Home" anymore. "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!
  14. ^Unfortunately, that is the norm with Six Flags America whenever it comes to new rides or slides: they always open later in the season - Not unlike other parks that will try to open their newest attractions by opening day or Memorial Day. "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!
  15. I can see the old station for the defunct Roller Soaker being turned into a ride station for another ride, methinks another water coaster like Holiday World's Wilderbeest if they can figure out the ride's layout around the Boardwalk. I'm sure they may have some plans to use that station or they would had it tore down.
  16. I went back to Kings Dominion last Sunday and had a good day despite the park being crowded as it was ( What did you expect: it was a hot, sunny day in the middle of Memorial Weekend? ). I got to ride a total of 26 rides, including four rides on Windseeker! And now it's time for some observations: QUESTION - If the Hurler coaster is such a bad coaster, then why did I see a long line? I rode in the back ( On that day, I rode in the back of all the coasters. ) and I didn't think the coaster was bad at all. The ride attendants at The Volcano should get a compliment on how they handled the fast pass/regular riders situation on when to release them to go to the station. I know what I was doing when I decided to get in line to ride The Volcano later in the day ( I timed myself on how long it took before I got on the ride - the results will appeat later ), and noticed that there was also a line with the fast passers ( a short line, but a line nevertheless. ). The ride attendant was releasing those that were waiting in a 1 to 3 ratio ( a total of 32 riders or two trains were released after a few minutes - at least 8 from fast pass line and 24 from regular line). Overall, I waited 75 minutes to board The Volcano while I'm sure that those in fast pass waited at least 15 minutes. Didn't ride the Intimidator 305 due to the long lines and running only one train. If I was from far away and knowing it may be years before I can go back to Kings Dominion, then I would wait in line. But Kings Dominion is my home park and I have a CEDAR FAIR PLATINUM PASS, so I decided to skip this one and come back another day. Besides, I waited 75 minutes to get on Volcano and didn't want to wait another 75 minutes to board The Intimidator. Did I mentioned that I rode Windseeker four times? And to think a few years ago I was against this ride being placed in the park. Try riding Windseeker at nighttime for an out-of-this world riding experience. I did - twice! Don't call Woodstock Express a "kiddie coaster" because this coaster has the props and the chops to be a thrill ride with the speeds the trains seem to have. Thank goodness for seatbeats. Avalanche had THREE trains running! Methinks they finally got the "Canada" car up and running. Oh, and I'll say it again like I did from an earlier post: AVALANCHE IS CELEBRATING ITS 25th YEAR OF ENTERTAINING RIDERS OF ALL AGES AND MAKING BOBSLEDS COOL AGAIN!!! SO RIDE AVALANCHE AND SEE WHY THIS COASTER IS COOL!!! A miracle happened while I was in line to ride Lucy's Tugboat. I am an adult, but I need at least one child to ride with. I could have exited the ride in anger, but I happily stayed in line hoping to find some kiddie to ride with. I didn't have to wait long; behind me were three little kids, including one little one that needed an adult to ride with, but no adults were with them. So those three rode with me and we all lived happily ever after. I'm hoping to come back later in June to catch the two shows that will finally be running: The Wheels show and "On Broadway" show. I hope they were worth the wait. THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF VISITING kINGS dOMINION - AND COUNTING!!!
  17. ^ I had a dream about the brand new Ghost Town in the Sky building a roller coaster that would have the worlds tallest first drop. After the train is pulled up to the top, it will go down into a natural ravine and come out on top of a plateau, where it will go up and down and all around before going down this ravine one more before heading back into the station. This was thought up upon before my ill-fated 2007 visit. Inside the park, I couldn't find anything nor anywhere that this coaster would fit. To bad; if this park had this ideal location to put in this world record coaster, then riders and amusement park flyers from all over the world would be flocking in droves to Ghost Town in the Sky and the park would be thriving like never before. Ah well, maybe someplace else. I'm not perfect; I just love to ride
  18. As reported by adamico2 - That is just plain terrible for several reasons. #1 - This little boy should have a responsible adult riding with him, and #2 he shouldn't have been allow to ride by himself in the first place. I mean, didn't they have any sort of a height restriction policy at this carnival? I bet they would have if this carnival was held in America, but it seemed they just let the little boy go on, think happy thoughts, and hope the boy will make it through the ride. I'm am just SHOCKED!!!

  20. I was seven years old when I rode my first roller coaster with my dad. It was located in Blackpool Pleasure Beach, England. I like to state for the record ( my dad would back me up, if he was still living) that doing my first ride on that roller coaster I never screamed, cried, or threw up. I just sat in my seat and hung on as I felt my stomach reach my throat everytime the train when down a hill. Near the end of the ride when the train passed through a tunnel that featured tons of flashing, colored lights, that moment felt magical to me. I enjoyed my first ride on that roller coaster and I've been riding ever since.

  22. ^ Very amusing. Well, I could've talked them out of riding Ninja, but by the time I got to the station, they already have ridden the ride and was ready to move to another ride. Besides, I'd never try to talk to anyone whether they should ride or not to ride: I might save their life anyhow. Here's another story that happened at Kings Dominion and how I managed to save this -hole's life even though he ruined my ride. I was at the Rebel Yell and managed to get to the front seat when this -hole wanted to join me. He was a single rider just like I was and since the line was way long and I was doing the golden rule and all that jazz I decided to let him join me. This was way back in the day when the Rebel Yell used the old restraint system ( no seat dividers, no seat belts, and not indivual lap bar - just one big bar). The way this -hole was talking I guess he must have been a rider from H, E, double hockey sticks. "You got that right; he was my type of rider!" Anyhow, the ride begins and just as the train begins to go down the first hill, this -hole begins to STAND UP!!! "What are you doing?" I yelled as I grabbed that -hole by the belt of his pants and held him down into his seat. "Naw, it's okay," the -hole replied as he tries to get up again. "Are you trying to kill yourself?" I screamed as I pulled him down into his seat. In the end, that -hole didn't fall off the coaster and I was [BEEP] ing mad by the time we arrived back at the station. I should have reported his to the ride attendants, but why I didn't do it I'll never know. At least I know why I didn't push him off, so he can go off himself at another coaster at another time. Ancient Chinese Proverb - Those that break rules will break their bones!
  23. Hey, I've seen those in action on TV, as well as being featured briefly on Travel Channel's Future Scream Machines. My gripe about this attraction is that it may be used as an upcharge attraction, until I saw the photo and saw how they could increase the number of riders per hour. Still, I bet they won't let a single rider on unless he/she has a partner. I'm not perfect; I just love to ride
  24. Yes, I one time rode Magnum 200 at Cedar Point during a light rain and all those little droplets stung whenever they hit my face. Another time I was riding the Anacaonda at Kings Dominion during its opening day and it just finished raining. When that train went into the underwater tunnel, there was a drop of water that fell and it me right square in the eyes ( talk about paaaiiin . . .). Guess what? I found another old post that needs new life. Care to help out?
  25. Well, this incident wouldn't have killed the riders, but it would have send them into a living nightmare. Forturnately, I was there to prevent such a catastrophe. I was waiting in line to ride The Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis. The uncoming train pulls into the station and stops to let the riders out and let the uncoming riders board. In the row I was waiting in, a man and woman got out. As I was about to board, I saw laying on one of the seats a set of keys. I picked up the keys and stopped that couple to see if these were their keys. It were their keys and they were very grateful that I found and returned them. Imagine the horrors they would have gone through when they realized their keys were missing and they had to backtrack throughout the park in order to located them? But because I found and return their keys to them, that senario was avoided. As I got back into my seat to ride The Ninja, I was feeling really good about myself and believing that I may have saved a life. I don't worry about losing my keys because I keep them tied to the drawstrings of my swimming trucks. By the way, it's been more than eight years since this thread received a post, so I'm taking it out of the closet, dusting it off, and bring it back to new life. And yes, I like my cookie to be peanut butter!
