Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

B&M Wing Rider. It would be the first in America and the first of its kind on the East Coast (seating style that is). -
What coaster would you rebuild?
Geauga Dog replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's quite a few I would like rebuilt. Long Beach Cyclone Racer Ocean View Rocket Idora Wildcat Euclid Beach Thriller Kings Island Bat BGW Drachen Fire and Big Bad Wolf -
Haunt only lasted two years at Geauga Lake under Cedar Fair and the season was cut back to opening on Memorial Day weekend so that WWK would also open with the park, The season ran through mid-September when the final weekend would be the park's annual Oktoberfest (which was always a popular event that CF sort of screwed up after taking over).

^With all the work RM has done this offseason for the Six Flags parks I would think tackling something like SoB would possibly stretch their resources a bit thin. NTG was a monumental task all by itself. Though it won't happen if they do decide to go with topper track they might as well put the loop back in. ^^I'm not sure the fact that the Coney Mall/Action Zone side of the map being folded really means anything. If they remove the Action Theater I wouldn't be surprised. It didn't seem to be open the two times I was there last year. Though it appears they kept Citigraph for the map instead of Cedar Fairing it, which makes me happy. -
How much Faster/Taller can we get?
Geauga Dog replied to Sir Coaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The real question is would it be necessary to go higher and faster? As has been demonstrated for years the better rides are generally smaller rides that deliver. I can see coasters going above 500 feet but they will be short. You would need a lot of real estate to burn off the energy of the car/train without having to rely on magnetic brakes every so many feet to slow it down. If that was the case then what would be the point of building it? -
Big Dipper (GL) Raging Wolf Bobs Head Spin Steel Venom (GL) Dominator (GL) Villain Double Loop Thunderhawk (GL) Beaver Land Mine Ride Corkscrew (GL) X Flight Big Bad Wolf Drachen Fire Wild Maus The Bat (KI) - I know I rode it but don't remember it - I was rather young. Screamin' Demon King Cobra (KI) Son of Beast - this is still a big question mark Robin: Chiller (never got to ride Batman) (SFGAdv) Shock Wave (SFGAm) Deja Vu (SFGAm) GASM (SFGAdv) Laser (Dorney) Invertigo (CGA) Greezed Lightning (CGA) Stealth Psyclone Chang (when KK was not a SF park) Vampire (KK) Zambezi Zinger Orient Express High Speed Thrill Coaster (Knoebel's) Hypersonic XLC Lightning Bolt (MGM Grand Adventures in Vegas) Screechin' Eagle (Americana/LeSourdesville Lake) Serpent (Americana/LeSourdesville Lake) Coaster (Chippewa Lake) - I was very young but remember riding it Wild Mouse - (Shady Lake) - This was a small park that opened in Streetsboro, Ohio in the early 80's and lasted a few years.

Take it from experience - just because they are giving Grizzly some love doesn't mean CF is interested in keeping the park. They finished the retracking Six Flags started on RWB and in 2007 they straightened out the trick track on Villain yet they still closed Geauga Lake. The signs are all there. From Kinzel's remarks to the lack of new additions to the removal of rides, CGA is doomed and that is very sad as it is decent park based on my 2001 visit. I hope that if and when that time comes they have learned their lesson from the Geauga closing fiasco and give the park a proper farewell.

TPR's Ever Evolving Park Index
Geauga Dog replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just checked it out. Nicely done. I noticed that you still list Darien Lake as Six Flags Darien Lake. Just thought I'd let you know. -
The highlight for me was going to Six Flags St. Louis for the first time last June. Despite the excessive heat I had a very good time and is my second favorite Six Flags (behind Great America). While not having a big signature ride their coaster collection is quite good and varied. Loved the park overall. While not park related going up in the Gateway Arch was also pretty sweet. I went to Martin's Fantasy Island on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and was also the first time I was there. Was quite surprised with Silver Comet as it was quite a decent ride and not rough at all. Martin's takes good care of the ride. I plan on going to try the new Mind Warp ride this year. I finally rode KI's Diamondback last year and is my second favorite ride in the park. Since I got a Gold Pass this year I hope to try some night rides this summer. Back seat rules on this coaster.

Suprising Soakings
Geauga Dog replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Probably one of the most surprising to me was the old Raging Thunder flume at Americana/LeSourdesville. IIRC the ride had little dips on the course that made the water go over the front of the log and into the boat but I do remember coming off that ride quite wet. Geauga's Shipwreck Falls was another if you were standing on the midway in front of the ride watching it. If the boat had the right weight the wave would be big enough to go over the deck and onto the midway. While not a complete soaking you sometimes did get hit with a slightly above normal sprinkle. -

Kings Island turns 40 next year. It could be the plan of how guests will access the new attraction. I doubt if it's expansion of X Base as it's nowhere near there. You have some maintenance buildings in between Firehawk/FOF and this new area. It could be the beginnings of an entirely new "coughthemedcough" section. -
Doesn't the park already have a Chance Revolution? What is it, about seven hours between Knott's and CGA? That's plenty of distance to build a Windseeker at CGA and not be competing with KBF but with SFDK adding Skyscreamer, why should they? They need to add something that Six Flags doesn't have. I think CF is aware that the park needs a new coaster and I'm sure it's in their long term plans if things work out for them regarding the stadium issue. I would like to see the park continue on. Besides, who's idea was it allow office buildings to be built next to a theme park?

Why is Dorney all of a sudden becoming CF's dumping ground? Invertigo technically wouldn't be anything "new" since Hershey has a standard boomerang. Both types of rides are basically the same thing. Should have given GL's Head Spin to Michigan's Adventure, GL's Thunderhawk to Valleyfair, and Invertigo to Carowinds. I know it's been said that it would never go to CP, and I agree, but it sure would fit where Demon Drop used to be.

World Joyland in China
Geauga Dog replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm very impressed by this coaster. Great to see B&M design a very unique flying coaster. That zero-G roll looks insane. -
And we all learned a lesson in what transpired at Geauga Lake. CF never said they were going to close GL either all the while rumors began surfacing the park might close when people saw X Flight and Steel Venom being taken down. Their so-called intention was to bring the park back to a size that fit the attendance as it was deemed too large of a footprint for what they were attracting. So seeing this transpire in California just screams "Geauga Lake sequel" in the making. Isn't it also ironic that Invertigo and Deja Vu at SFGAm were both built on the same spot as the old Sky Whirl and both will be/have been removed from their respective parks? Is that particular plot of land jinxed? CGA's Invertigo was the first one of its kind I've ridden and I really like them. My guess is it's going to Valleyfair.

Herschend operating Darien Lake, IMO, is a perfect fit. The resort as a whole, not just the park, seems to fit the HFE family rather well. The park might need a little work but the potential is there. I hope CNL gives them some freedom in how they run the park. The scary thing to me is having Burke and Story back at Frontier City, since that's where the current Six Flags empire was born and the fact they literally ignored the park during their reign. Time will tell if they've learned from their mistakes.

What is the best floorless?
Geauga Dog replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been on BKF/Dominator, Medusa East, Medusa West, and Hydra. The Batinator was my favorite until I rode Medusa at Great Adventure. I love the zero-G camelback element on the sit down coasters and is the only inversion I wished the Batinator had. I liked Hydra but felt it was a little weak. -
Shane's Amusement Attic
Geauga Dog replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^A majestic looking ride then and still a majestic looking ride now. Screamin' Eagle is a great ride that appears to be quite underrated. -
Sad to see Vulture go but it seemed inevitable it was on its last legs a few years ago. While not a skyline changing ride now with Superman, Undertaker and Vertical Velocity dominiating the skyline it does seem to put a void in the park. My guess is that it will be a flyer since Six Flags was into building several SUF clones at this time. Maybe it will be themed to a villain this time around.

Mack doesn't seem to get as much love in the US than they do in Europe. Other than the Musik Express and Matterhorn/Swing Bob/Feria Swing there aren't too many of their rides here. Their Sea Storms are great flat rides (thank you Darien Lake for having one) and Avalanche is a far better bobsled than the old Intamin models. I wish there were a few more of these in the US. Despite the mixed reviews of Blue Fire I would still like to see one here, even if it is a clone. That is such a great looking ride. I, too, had hoped that CP would have went with Mack for Shoot The Rapids instead of building another Intamin.
