America's Wonderland [RCT3]

Thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead and widened the waterfall however to keep everything somewhat centered I had to move one side of the entry midway over a bit. I think it still came out good. New, wider waterfall on the mountain. -

Thanks for the comment. I put the Main Street behind the mountain to make it different from other parks that have the theme at the front like at Disney's Magic Kingdom or even Adventureland in Iowa. It's a small representation that may be expanded in the future. -

We finally opened! Well, not exactly. We had a trial day with Club TPR as well as invited families of park employees. Everything went well, some minor hiccups during the day, but that is to be expected. Most of the day I was part guest, riding rides and just enjoying the park and part management to get a feel of what the guests had to say. Overall it seemed everyone I talked to was fairly impressed but that we still needed a few more rides. Thanks for viewing. Now open for business! It's about time. Walking up the north side of Old Country. Wonderland Mountain - up close. We'll go to Adventure Cove first. A random view. A view of the main section of Adventure Cove, taken later in the day. Let's go on Sultan Spin, the family spinning coaster. They call this a family ride? It spins just as fast as Exterminator at the end. Atlantis didn't open right away but we did enjoy it later on. Here are the body slides - Neptune, Triton, Poseidon, and Hades. Mayday Falls beckons. Swirl City and Royal Flush were great fun. Didn't ride Funnelvision as we wanted to check out the rest of the park. Got dressed and continued our journey to Wicked Woods. First stop was to Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall. Got this view of Banshee's cobra roll as I was heading to my seat. *Gulp* We're going all the way up there? What a great view! (I got permission from the ride op to take this photo). Of course the main reason we are here is because of Banshee. Due to the nature of the ride I didn't want to risk damaging my camera but I was able to snag this photo of going through the mist in the helix. Thanks to my 10X zoom I was able to get this of riders coming out of the mist filled trench at the end of the ride. One last look at Banshee and its station before moving on to Americana Corners. Americana Corners is light on the thrills. There are only three rides here - a Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, and Antique Cars. It's a small area but is rather nice as a "fill in" area between the thrills of Wicked Woods and Coyote Creek. I at least rode the Ferris Wheel, where I checked out what is over at Coyote Creek. First stop was Timber Rattler. I had to pass on the Texas Tornado as I don't handle spinning rides well. Timber must be a popular ride considering the wait I had for it. The first drop. (I got permission from the ride op to take photos). Drop under the lift hill. I was getting hot so I wanted to ride Renegade Falls. They added some modest western scenery along the way. Renegade Falls has a small scenic area that resembles a western town. The ride does have a decent drop that doesn't soak you. Considering the line for the ride the park needs a second water ride. Coyote Creek was light during the day but the crowds picked up later on. The Wonderland Carousel, also known as Old Country Carousel, is housed in a large Bavarian inspired building. Before I left the park I picked up a few postcards. Here's an aerial from the south. I liked this one of Timber Rattler. This postcard highlights both Banshee and Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall. Finally, this aerial of Old Country. -

Hopefully these shots turned out okay. This installment has seen the the first three buildings that introduces a new area, Americana Corners. It is the area that finally connects Wicked Woods with Coyote Creek. This original area used to be a long midway similar to KI's Coney Mall but now it will be condensed. I've also included a couple of shots of the Atlantis water park as well as a few aerials from Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall, the Intamin Giant Drop. Here is the beginning of what will be Americana Corners. Here is its location in the park. It will feature a few Main Street style buildings that will culminate into a small ride midway (which is up at the top). Here's an aerial of Atlantis water park. It was recently reconfigured. Probably the one thing that I was most happy in how it turned out. The massive body slide complex. Welcome to Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall. This is a new facade for the ride. The view as we wait for the ride to go up. The view looking towards Wonderland Mountain and Adventure Cove. Banshee looks great from Mr. Hydes. I've also added a few areas of the misty particles/fog in areas of Wicked Wood and along the low sections of Banshee. I think it really adds to the atmosphere of this area. Final photo - looking towards Coyote Creek in the distance. Thanks for viewing. -

^Thanks for the tip. I usually just play my parks as is but I have made the adjustments that you spoke of and any future screenshots will be much better. This is the first time I've ever taken screenshots and posted on a forum. Sorry, CF, no Togo stand up in this park. I'm sure the guests will be glad to hear that. -
Welcome to America's Wonderland! This actually is a park that I had been playing without custom scenery but have decided to do a makeover using some of the custom scenery I've been downloading. I basically started over by removing all the rides and stalls that were in the game as well as redo some of the layout in areas. I like how it's turning out so far but there is still a lot of work I have to complete. I know that there are custom supports for the coasters and I have downloaded them but I'm still trying to figure out how they work. It hasn't been easy. Onto the pics. First we'll start with some of the old park to compare with. Here's an overhead view. Falcon - drops directly over the midway. I had just reopened the park after trying to clean it up a little. Another shot of Falcon. View from Der Fallinfast, the Roto Drop. I loooove that name. The Boss - inspired by The Boss. This area gets a major makeover in the new park. Looking towards the new main gate, Wonderland Mountain, and what is now Old Country Plaza. There are three levels to the main gate - first floor park entrance, second floor a restaurant, third floor park management. Hello Wonderland Mountain - the park centerpiece. It's also used as the logo. This used to be the area Falcon and the Merrie Oldies cars used to be. To the left is Atlantis, formerly Oceanic Wonderland. This area is Wicked Woods, a dark, spooky forest theme. This is where The Boss used to be. Banshee, the star attraction in Wicked Woods. On the other side of the park from Wicked Woods is Coyote Creek. This used to be home to Rapid Fire, a Premier LIM Launch coaster. Der Fallinfast would have been right off to the left of the photo. Timber Rattler - the star attraction in Coyote Creek. Renegade Falls log flume. There is even a section before the second lift where you float past a small western town. Closer look at Renegade Falls station.

I decided to take a break from RCT2 and went back to RCT3 for the time being. While I'm not great at doing custom buildings I am inspired by some of the fantastic work I've seen in this forum. Great job everyone! So now I'm in search of custom content. I noticed a lot of the links for custom scenery are linked to Vodhin's old site and I'm having trouble getting into his new Doughnutville site. I have an updated version of Flash in my 'puter but I think my slower connection is hanging me up. Is there any other way to access the new site or have a list of what is downloadable without having to go through all the trouble?

Yes, I do remember. The McDonald's across the street would have a huge line for the drive-thru when the park closed and I also remember Red Robin and Steak-N-Shake being much busier than they are now. You also have to factor in Streetsboro as also paying the price. All those hotels and restaurants that were built along Route 14 have to be hurting for business. -

Lol Larry. Can I add an excerpt? "I couldn't just stand by and let Six Flags try to invade my terrritory. They were a little too close for my comfort so I wanted to show them that they couldn't beat Cedar Point. They just acquired a killer whale and I knew that would start to draw more families towards Cleveland than Sandusky. I had to put a plan in place. We had to get people talking about Cedar Point again because I knew before too long everyone was going to start talking about that other place. We tried with Wicked Twister in 2002 but it didn't really get people as excited as we wanted them to be. So we did something we never did before - we added another coaster the very next year. We added a launch coaster to our California park, which proved to be a success so we went back to Intamin, the ride's manufacturer, to see if they could take the same technology used on that ride and take it to the next level. They were eager to expand on the hydraulic launch concept and it eventually became Top Thrill Dragster. Never before had a ride been built to match the height and speed of this new, spectacular ride. We began construction towards the middle of the 2002 summer season and I was right, people started talking and trying to figure out what Cedar Point was adding. I couldn't have been more happier. When it came time for the ride to open I never forseen the problems this ride would be for me and for park maintenance. The ride was down more than it was up and it got people talking - though a lot of it was somewhat negative. We had Intamin out to help try to get the thing running consistently and if we were lucky we could get it to run for half a day. Eventually we got the ride running rather efficiently even though it took a few years to get the bugs out. I blame Six Flags for the fiasco that haunted me those first couple of years. If they never came to Ohio I wouldn't have had to build this ride. While Dragster continues to have its hiccups every once in awhile and the general public enjoys it, at least it isn't anything like what happened the year we built Shoot-the-Rapids. I'll save that for another chapter." -

I remember rumors popping up around mid-summer 2007 that Dominator and Thunderhawk were going to be removed. It wasn't until mid to late August rumors began to surface stating the park was closing yet CF would not acknowledge if it was true or not, blowing it off as just internet rumors. They knew when the RWB incident occured, maybe before that. They could have fixed Wolf Bobs and ran one train only. That's how they did it until they got the old Legend train. It's not like RWB was drawing hour long waits when it was open. During the Funtime and SF years Oktoberfest had a lot of carny trailers popped up all over the park. When CF came in it was like they disappeared so I don't know if CF just didn't invite them back after 2004. It wasn't the same since. -

Wow, Defcon62, that was an awesome post! Thank you. I actually supported the move of the water park to the old Sea World side because at the former location on the ride side it was landlocked and up against Route 43. However with the eventual removal of Steel Venom, X-Flight, and the temperamental monorail they could have expanded in that direction while relocating Head Spin somewhere else. But then what to do with the former animal park - sell it? I remember the big push for unions to boycott GL over the whole WWK mess. But it wasn't the only time CF pissed off people. Remember when they were not going to let kids who were in the Six Flags reading program use their vouchers in 2004 and the big stink that arose from that? They rescinded that decision rather quickly. They also screwed up Oktoberfest. They no longer allowed the carny trailers and eventually reduced the amount of live bands performing at the park. That killed the lively atmosphere the event always brought in. Don't forget that RWB derailed in June of 2007 and was never repaired. That should have been a dead giveaway. If it was Cedar Point they would have had that ride fixed and reopened in a week. -

So what you're basically saying is they looked at GL as a garage sale instead of a park that was a diamond in the rough. They should get a refund for Firehawk. Kings Island can't run it any better than they did X-Flight. -

But wouldn't it sound fishy, pardon the pun, that a company that has no experience in operating an animal park comes in and purchases a park that features animals and then tries to turn it around by eliminating one of the main attractions to the park all the while not even trying to add something to compensate for the loss of said animals? They had no plan to try to make it work and it was evident in three of the four years they owned the park. At least Premier Parks/Six Flags had seen what potential the property had - they just went about it too much too soon. I don't fault them for the massive expansion in 2000, I mean, look at what the park was up against at the time - MIllennium Force and Son of Beast. How was little ol' GL going to compete with massive rides like these? They should have flagged the park after they bought Sea World. Let CP and KI have all the hoopla with their record breaking coasters and then stun everyone else the following year. Oh, one last thought, I would think when considering to purchase a park they would see how viable it would be from a financial standpoint. I guess CF didn't do enough homework. -
I like what I see and have read and thanks for posting the photos from the announcement. The only thing is that the name Mach Tower doesn't seem to be in the same league as some of their other classic ride names. I still vote for Der Fallinfast. I wonder if the re-envisoning of Oktoberfest will be spread out over both years and if Wirbelwind and Autobahn will be relocated in the process. I don't know of any other manufacturer that has a drop ride with a ring that spins other than Intamin. Even with 30 seats the wait still shouldn't be all that bad.

I have an issue with building racing coasters in RCT2. I never had a problem with them in the past but a few years ago my computer died and I bought a new hard drive. RCT2 works fantastic on it but when I build racing coasters in the "Roller Coaster Design" section, then synchronize the stations and try to test them I get an error message: Error Trapper Exception Raised - Access Violation Error Location - Unknown I am running XP, which is what I had on my old comp but I find it odd that I can no longer build racing wood coasters. Anyone have any idea if I'm possibly missing something? Thanks -

Since Marineland is in Canada I don't think that affects the use of the name. Besides Astroworld's Intamin first generation freefall was called SkyScreamer as well as the skycoaster at the old MGM Grand Adventures in Vegas. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
Geauga Dog replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think Vekomas are that bad, in fact I actually like them. They may not be B&M quality rides but for some of the smaller parks they are the closest they will get to having one. Plus some of their layouts are pretty cool. Imagine a B&M invert with the Vekoma SLC layout - you just might have a ride as intense as Batman. The layout of their Flying Dutchman clones are better than the B&M Superman clones. You can thank Premier Parks/the old Six Flags for putting majority of the clones out there. It seemed every new property they bought back in the 90's the first thing they would do is add the Boomerang and SLC clones. Though I have never ridden it I find the layout of Kumali at Flamingoland to be interesting and I would like to see a clone of that here in the States. -

Glad to see SFStL get a new ride next year. I, too, wonder where it will go in the park. The Riverview Racer (Chance Yo-Yo) was looking a little "worn" on my visit this year. That area of the park seems to need a bit of a boost anyway. -

I did not get to visit media day but the season opening night, Friday May 5th, 2000, will forever be etched in my memory as one of the most fantastic park visits I've ever had. It was a very magical night. And to think SFO/SFWoA would have been ten years old this year..."sigh".
