  1. It's a big enough spot for a Castaway Bay - Carowinds indoor water park resort.
  2. Just call it Sabre, after the Buffalo Sabres if you want Buffalo pride.
  3. Six Flags - Raging Bull Cedar Fair - Maverick Sea World Entertainment - Alpengeist Parques Reuindos - Phantom's Revenge CNL/Herschend - Viper Disney - Space Mountain Disneyland
  4. Back in the day the Bayern Kurve and Schwabinchen were in the former Wildcat spot. I would much rather have a couple of modern flat rides in the former Wildcat spot than another small, low capacity coaster. What do you think is the lifespan of the former IMAX theater? Valleyfair just demolished theirs.
  5. I've only been on Voyage and Ravine Flyer II and Ravine Flyer is the better of the two. Voyage is technically my favorite wooden coaster and that is based on my rides during its inaugural season but Ravine Flyer delivers the goods and continues to deliver since the ride is well taken care of. I call it a mini-Voyage.
  6. I take my wallet, keys on a belt loop and my camera which fits in my cargo shorts. I leave my cell phone in the car.
  7. ^The title may say one ride but it's impossible to narrow it down to just one ride as there are quite a few that would be considered essential that every park should have.
  8. Ferris Wheel Carousel Bumper Cars Scrambler Tilt-A-Whirl Music Express Swing Bob i.e CP's Matterhorn, Darien Lake's Sleigh Ride Pendulum Boat Ride i.e. Chance Sea Dragon
  9. Boomerang - Mind Eraster/Head Spin - Geauga lake SLC - T2 - Kentucky Kingdom Invertigo - Invertigo - CGA Giant Inverted Boomerang - Deja Vu - SFGAm Flyng Dutchman - X Flight - Geauga Lake Roller Skater - Woodstock Express - CP Family Suspended - Rugrats Runaway Reptar/Flying Ace - KI
  10. I really like Huss rides as well and was a bit saddened that their large catalog had been chopped after the re-organization as there were quite a few I wish I could have tried but U.S. parks didn't add them (Flipper and Magic come to mind). My favorites are/were the Giant Frisbee, Enterprise, UFO, Troika andTri-Star.
  11. ^Yes, only the lift and station are the original track. It''s nice to have Intamins and Beemer but a little change in the coaster landscape isn't bad so it's good to see Chance building a new coaster again. Glad that they sort of adopted the low body Arrow chassis style train on Phantom's Revenge instead of their big boxy trains for this. Also seems like they tried to pack a lot in the small space the ride will be in. I'm just a little surprised that they are putting in a new freefall but am happy they picked one of the best ones out there in the Larson Super Shot. My only concern is the capacity. Even if they didn't plan on adding a new coaster I was planning on going next year. It looks like they are going to be off to a good start.
  12. Probably due to the lift going right through the middle of it.
  13. It's nice that we finally have some sort of idea of what the park's layout would be like and have a rough idea of what rides may be included. The aerial shot of the park site seems to put it in the middle of other development which kind of has me thinking NIMBYs will begin to oppose everything the park wants to put in once the gates open.
  14. [quote name="Philrad71It has been a loooong while since I last rode UFO' date=' but what are the restraints and when were they added? I remember riding that ride as a teen (think 1980's) where we just got in the cage, the doors automatically closed and we had one small, fiberglass barrier in the middle between two riders and we simply did our best to hold onto the front cage bars in order to keep stable throughout the ride. [/quote] The ride had no restraints; it was exactly as you remember it - you got in, closed the door and stood there holding onto the bars in front of you. I would like to think that if there was a power failure or something that would interrupt the ride already in motion there would have been an override that would automatically bring the ride down without causing injury to the riders. I could be wrong as I am quickly reminded of the Kings Island Skylab incident where the ride stopped while in motion. What kind of condition was the Scrambler in when they removed it? That ride is such a staple attraction in amusement parks I would have thought they could relocate it elsewhere in the park.
  15. Raging Seas was a Mack Sea Storm unless you're referring to their newer Twist-N-Splash water tea cups, which would be an interesting addition. Maybe it's just me but I always thought it was strange that Darien Lake didn't have a Mack Musik Express ride since Sleigh Ride is also a Mack. The highest height limit I've seen is 60" and theat was mainly for Huss Enterprises. CP's Witches' Wheel has/had a rather high limit.
  16. ^The only downside is that the car builds all that momentum to get through the twist only to stop to attach to the lift.
  17. UFO's platform was still there in September though the UFO sign was missing. It could be they didn't have enough time to completely remove the rides's remains. I think it's not coming back. Would be a nice spot to put the Scrambler back in. I could see Sleigh Ride get the axe though I'm hoping it won't unless it's replaced with something or is part of an overhaul like what they did with Lakeside Boardwalk.
  18. Wow, a lot of great looking rides made with NoLimits and some very intriguing and unique inversions incorporated in a lot ot fhose designs. I don't have the program and even though it would be something I'd like to try It also looks a bit complicated.
  19. Coaster-wise I'm really looking forward to Banshee and Goliath. Park-wise I bought a CF platinum pass and am looking at a possible Midwest adventure to Worlds of Fun and Valleyfair.
  20. They did a very nice job with the ride. I like the guardian as a height measurement post. Why can't more parks be creative like that?
  21. Darien's restrooms are too small for the park. They definitely need to replace some of them and make them bigger. The worst one I encountered on my visit at the end of September (RunDEAD day) was next to the Ranger. Not only did it appear filthy it also seemed quite outdated and needing an overhaul. I never had an issue with the front gate restroom though I usually end up using it prior to leaving. My biggest disappointment is still with Viper. They spend all that money to repaint the coaster back to black a couple years ago, added the new overlay on the train this year (whIch I really like though it was already peeling on one of the cars) yet the station still looks like crap. Even worse is that small building that's under the second corkscrew you pass in the queue is in shambles. I wonder if that has anything to do with the on-ride photo equipment as the camera is right there. Sleigh Ride was closed on my visit but it never really was a fast ride since I've been going to the park (started visiting in 2000). I'm just glad they stopped making it go backwards as I thought that was pointless. They just repainted Silver Bullet so I don't think it's going anywhere.
  22. ^What you're thinking of is exactly what Vekoma has been doing lately on such rides like Freedom Flyer at Fun Spot and Orkanen at Farup Sommerland. The whole purpose of the suspended coaster was to have the trains swing out on the turns, that's where the thrill was. I'd much rather have that style make a resurgence sometime in the future but with improved track, supports and trains to handle the stresses better.
  23. I wonder how much work will be done to the ride platform. Will it be left open as is or will they enclose part of it and make it more of a bat cave?
