  1. ^White Lightning at Fun Spot America in Orlando is a steel structured GCI. If anything GCI has proven they can build a seriously twisted wood coaster in the smallest footprints, American Thunder being a great example of that, but are they willing to do inversions in their designs? This new project just screams RMC to me. Is it me or does it seem like Gravity Group has fallen off the map except for their new coasters overseas, not counting re-doing Hades into Hades 360?
  2. I really like that layout. It seems the wing coasters look better when they are smaller in size as they need to make up for lack of big drops. That airtime hill after the wing over first drop looks like it will deliver whereas Gatekeeper's didn't.
  3. Easy - just have dual loading stations like the Mr. Freeze coasters.
  4. Sad to hear how Voyage has deteriorated over the years since it is my favorite wood coaster. I only got to ride it during it's opening year and while it was insane it wasn't smooth. I do remember one of the 90 degree turns having a nastly little jolt on the return portion of the ride. I've always had the assumption that Hades 360 isn't as well taken care of as Voyage is since many have reported that there were still rough parts even with the Timberliners.
  5. Based on that article the ride isn't going to really be altered that much, i.e. increased lift height, lengthened track, but given the compact layout Predator already has this could turn out to be quite an interesting ride.
  6. ^I'd much rather have the Vekoma over the B&M in the flyer department. B&M's can get quite uncomfortable if you're sitting on the brake run for a few minutes since they can't load them any faster than the Flying Dutchmen. I'd say Beast, Diamondback and Vortex are the top three at Kings Island but I think Banshee will replace Vortex on that list after next year.
  7. If Wildwater Kingdom was to be put on the chopping block it won't be until they divest of Geauga Lake's former ride area. No sense selling a water park and yet still retain the white elephant across the way.
  8. That little "snap" while in the cobra roll always gets my ears, especially on Raptor. I'm glad Banshee doesn't have one.
  9. As much as the rides had helped liven up that part of Orleans Place when it became Mardi Gras Ragin' Cajun was the only one that seemed out of place. I've probably only ridden it twice since it's been there. Nice location for a Sky Screamer perhaps?
  10. Those vests on a stand-up coaster would be a HUGE improvement over what is already on those trains. May help sell a few more models if parks knew the rides no longer beat your ears senselessly.
  11. I haven't been to the Dells but just by the video I guess the Timberliners didn't improve the ride that much more. I could only watch a part of the rider cam portion as I couldn't bear to watch the agony they were going through on some parts of the ride.
  12. Loving it! The logo is sweet, the purple and blue color scheme looks awesome (yay, no red), and mostly Kings Island finally gets a zero-G roll! Seven inversions is more than any other coaster in the entire region, at least since Shock Wave at SFGAm bit the dust. I'm very happy for Kings Island, they needed a ride like this! I had wondered if B&M were going to use the wing coaster restraints and I'm glad they are despite how they tighten. Maybe that will be resolved with Banshee.
  13. Considering the price of both I don't see DL getting both in the same year. I understand many people's desire to finally get a new coaster, heck I'd like to see them add a new coaster in the park but it wouldn't bother me if it was delayed a year as it would just mean that they can take a bit more time in refining the desgin and make it the best coaster possible. If Darien didn't have the attendance I don't think Herschend would have entertained the idea as a survey. I'd like to think that Kennywood is about the same size as Darien Lake and their Zamperla Giant Discovery is equally, if not a bit better, than the Huss models. It spins in both directions during the ride and the seats aren't as confining.
  14. I would not like it if they somehow redid American Eagle. The ride is a Great America classic and IMO is fine just the way it is. I always thought the amphitheater in Southwest Territory was a huge waste of space and you could easily fit another big ride in that spot or a few flat rldes.
  15. If they plan on closing Predator early they should advertise getting your last rides in soon. If they are wise and want to help season pass sales when they go on sale they should announce their new attraction before the end of the season, especailly since Darien Lake doesn't stay open all the way through October.
  16. Maverick. It seems every time I get in line it has a breakdown. It's bad enough CP's best ride has the worst queue line.
  17. If I"m not mistaken Dorney's Wildwater Kingdom was a separate water park. Based on old photos I've seen the main midway that Talon is on used to be a parking lot. Geauga's Wildwater Kingdom could have been an entirely separate park since the water activities no longer were on the ride side at the end of 2005 (Hurricane Hannah's wave pool, lazy river, and Shark Attack slides were all that were left after WWK opened on the former Sea World side and remained open one final year since Tidal Wave Bay was coming in 2006).
  18. I have no idea as to where the ride ended up. If it is at Darien Lake it's probably being used for parts since it's just a smaller version of the Corn Popper.
  19. I don't know where you get low coaster count since the six coasters Darien Lake has is not a bad number considering the size of the park. Wonderland is a huge park that services a very large population base in comparison to Darien Lake so it's going to have more coasters. I'm hoping this ride will be built in a new location. I can't see having what would be the park's two biggest coasters, RoS and Lake Monster, sitting right next to each other. Some parts of the park need a little more foot traffic like the Twister/Tin Lizzies area and a big new ride like Lake Monster would definitely do that.
  20. I like the original logo better but as someone might say "That logo was sooo 80's" The Bat would make for a nice wing coaster, I'm sure the trains would look really sweet, but CF isn't going to one up a coaster that is breaking records for its genre at a sister park, especially since that ride is at the flagship. But that didn't stop Kings Island from building a second, more successful suspended coaster in 1993. I wouldn't mind them using the Bat name again.
  21. I was looking at aerial views of Conneaut Lake on Bing Maps and noticed there is an island in the woods behind Kiddieland I guess was used for the Jungle Cruise ride back in the day. Is there anything left out there? Is there a time frame for when the Toboggan will be removed? That is a big eyesore on the lawn. Also what is the status of the Round Up since the central hub is all that's sitting there?
  22. Didn't Sleigh Ride get a paint job a few years back? Running Sleigh Ride backwards did nothing for the ride even though I hated going backwards on it. It doesn't go fast anymore either. Raging Seas and Sleigh Ride are/were nothing alike but considering there were always one or two "boats" broken on Raging Seas and the ride really looking worn it was only a matter of time before it was retired. Oddly that ride would have fit in with the boardwalk theme they turned the area into this year.
  23. Either that or the ride didn't bring in the return Herschend was hoping for.
  24. I spent a couple hours earlier today out at CLP. It's been about seven years since my last visit. A lot of painting was going on in the park and the Travel Channel was doing a bit of filming. Got the wristband including Blue Streak for $15 instead of the $20 as indicated on the ticket booth I guess as part of the special event the park was going to have later on. Only rides closed were the Music Express, Devil's Den, Tilt-A-Whirl, and the train. Quite a few people with cameras were there to take photos of the Beach Club remains. I'm sure they have an intent to rebuild and I hope it won't be a long time before construction begins. I only rode Blue Streak four times. It was running the NAD train and it seemed very sluggish on my first ride but the three subsequent rides after were much better. I can vouch for the ride that you get in the back seat. While the first drop was crazy it was the second drop that really got me. Ejector air, as if my seat was being yanked away from me, had me holding on the bar a bit tight. Wow!! Tumble Bug was running great and it's quite a speedy ride compared to the Kennywood Turtle. Employees were really nice as well. I didn't take a lot of photos but here are a few from my visit today. Conneaut's Main Entrance getting a nice paint job. What's left of the Beach Club fire. More Beach Club remains East Midway. Despite how depressing this may look it felt like there was an atmosphere of hope. Conneaut Lake is in an ideal location to be a thriving park again but we'll have to see if that comes to pass. Blue Streak's lift from Kiddieland. What a great ride and the new track really makes a difference. I hope the lift sees some work soon as it always freaks me out in how the track looks as you go up it. I love how shady the west midway is. This is looking back towards the front of the park. The Tumble Bug is such a gem. Glad that they are still able to keep it running. They also give you a decent ride cycle as well. One last photo from today of the Flying Scooters.
  25. Last time I was there a few of those game stands were closed. With a lot of attention paid to the front in recent years (Celebration Plaza and now Gatekeeper) I can see the next area of redevelopment would be Gemini midway. More than likely I can see a Camp Snoopy expansion/remodel more than adding any newer big rides. Having done Dinosaurs Alive it was a lot larger than I expected it would be and with Paddlewheel Excursions long gone that part of the island could be used for something when the dinos leave. Since they moved the maintenance building onto the mainland I can see something done there as well. You might as well include relocating Matterhorn and Scrambler to make a little more room for something. A custom Euro-fighter maybe? The Blue Streak area is sort of an odd dead end area that could use some reworking. Though I don't ride them much I'd rather they keep the Cadillac Cars and remove Turnpike since Turnpike takes up more space. How much longer will Calypso be around? Could remove or relocate it to make way for a path to the marina gate. The Pirate Ride space should be reutilized for something else, mainly bring it back by putting in an interactive shooting dark ride.
