  1. ^I would like to say calling Martin's Fantasy Island a "tourist trap" is also disrespectful. I think it's a pleasant park that is a little rough around the edges so to speak (the big midway area needs a little work) and does a good job filling the niche the park is geared towards. Just as much as RoS is really the only main draw to Darien Lake (for me personally the draw is Viper), taking a few spins on Silver Comet and Mind Warp are good enough to get me to go spend a couple hours at MFI.
  2. That looks soooo awesome. Wish I coiuld get up there to ride it before they switch it back.
  3. Slingshot and the Skyflyer Skycoaster usually have cheap deals for the first couple of hours after opening for the day. You should chek out Slingshot once you get in to check it out before a line forms for it later on.
  4. ^But when the ride breaks down, and it seems like it does quite a bit, no one is down there to buy anything, same goes for the lonely food stand across the midway from it. I'm hoping that Hershcned has an eye on the RoS midway next after the boardwalk renovation this year.
  5. "Banshee" fits the teaser sign on the construction wall about mysterious screams being monitored.
  6. America may have the bigger coasters but my vote is for Europe. I am amazed at how nice a lot of the parks are in the many photos I've seen here on TPR and in many instances the European parks actually put some theme into their rides. Plus it seems the European parks not only have more flats than American parks but in most cases, based on videos I've seen, they are run they way they should be run, not dumbed down like the American flats.
  7. Glad to hear they are refurbishing the cabins. The last time I rode it, which was when they instituted the no single riders policy two years ago they were in bad shape with lots of graffiti and carved names on the seats.
  8. ^And maybe a little quicker if they don't put all the gondolas back on the wheel. Giant Wheel looked odd having an empty space after every three gondolas last year.
  9. Just caught up on the fnal video. I always liked Gouderix's layout but considering it is an early Vekoma I can imagine how brutal it may be as everyone seems to agree with. As for the butterfly, the one on SFOG's Ninja was actually pretty smooth.
  10. Imagine the possibilities...hmmm. And there's footers in the old go-cart spot - coaster station?
  11. Darn I thought Boomerang was going to Martin's Fantasy Island as Max's Doggy Dog coaster.
  12. If you want a gimmick put in Skyrush winged trains on a mega-lite. If capacity is an issue couldn't they just add an extra car, making it a five car train instead of a four car train?
  13. Wow, Mindebender looks like an epic Schwarzkopf. If it's intense going forwards I can imagine how much more intense it is backwards. Great video to get my day going.
  14. If this is going to be a giga, and I somewhat think it will be, it would be nice to have something that's actually a little taller than Millennium Force. Come on Kings Island, let's go 320-325 feet.
  15. Wow, that ride went up fast. Looks quite impressive when viewed from the Oil Derrick.
  16. With work already starting on the SOB site maybe KI will announce the attraction earlier than usual.
  17. I didn't know much about the Hurricane in Myrtle Beach but that was a longer ride than I expected. CCI must have been cursed as quite a few of their rides are defunct, not even lasting ten years (I do miss Villain which gave great night rides).
  18. That's good to know that it hasn't been totally scrapped. I was afraid that Herschend was in the process of doing some house cleaning.
  19. Hmmm, doesn't sound good if it's not listed. Another one of my favorites there. However if they ever intend to bring back the Scrambler that would not be a bad location to put it.
  20. Very nice report! Thank you for posting. I have been a fan of Darien Lake since my first visit in 2000 and after seeing what Herschend has done in their short time of running the park you can't help but see a very bright future. The cosmetic changes being made are going to give the park a different look and feel when all is completed. I am very happy to see that blacktop being ripped out for the new boardwalk as well as the new concrete around the Giant Wheel.
  21. ^I disagree as the show is continuously being shown somewhere. If anyone gets ME-TV (here in Cleveland it's Channel 19-2) they show two hours of Brady Bunch reruns every Sunday from 11 AM to 1PM. The sad thing is that every time I see the Kings Island episode I always wish to go back to that time and visit the park in its infancy. It would be different if it was the Partridge Family, who also did an episode at the park around the same time.
  22. I wouldn't mind seeing a Gerstlauer spinning coaster at Darien Lake as it would be a good addition for the family, I wouldn't want to put it inside a building, in fact, I think the Galaxy Theater has served its purpose and should be demolished, thus opening the area that lacks any major attraction (I don't consider the go-carts a major attraction).
  23. While the sensations are basically the same for some reason it felt like the seats on the Zamperla were a little roomier and not as confining as the Huss Giants, which are also among my favorites. Also the Giant Discovery spins in both directions during the ride.
  24. I agree with the Top Spin but when it comes time to retire Excalibur a Zamperla Giant Discovery would be a nice replacement. Black Widow at Kennywood was awesome.
  25. http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/pimages/Suzhou_Giant_Wheel_Park/Stingray/IMG_7140.JPG I think the closest to a 90 degree drop on a flying coaster is Vekoma's Stingray like what is found at Suzhou Giant Wheel Park in China. While not technically a flying coaster as we know them here in the U.S. but it does use Vekoma's Flying Dutchman type cars. When I first saw the title of the thread I originally thought it might have some realation to a lot of the old school flats that are disappearing from parks and are no longer offered by their respective manufacturers. Not sure how they would be able to update those types of rides to reintroduce to a new generation.
